Samsung Galaxy S25 Series: What Upgrades to Expect Over Galaxy S24 Series?

0

Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy S25 series next month, according to leaks, but the launch timeline isn’t the only thing leaks have revealed. Leaks have also given us almost everything else the Galaxy S25 series could sport, and here we compare the upgrades one can expect from the devices over their predecessors — the Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Expected Upgrades

As usual, the Galaxy S25 series will consist of three models, including the Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S25+ and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Out of these, the Ultra model is expected to bring some upgrades over the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This includes a revamped design with rounded corners, a completely flat frame, and thicker camera rings on the back, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The camera placement, S-Pen slot, port, speakers, and button positioning remain identical to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, according to the leaked renders.

Coming to the specs, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to sport a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x panel with dynamic Refresh Rate from 1Hz till 120Hz, 240Hz touch sampling rate, Eye comfort shield, and up to 2600 nits of peak brightness. Further, there will be an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Corning Gorilla Armor protects this panel. This panel is identical to the S24 Ultra panel, but with rounded corners, the overall look of the display would change drastically.

Galaxy s25 Ultra base model

The will be upgraded to the Snapdragon 8 Elite as per leaks, paired with up to 16GB RAM which is higher compared to Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 12GB RAM. The storage variants would remain identical, including 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options. The battery and charging speeds are also expected to remain the same as before, which is 5000mAh with 45W fast charging. It’s disappointing considering brands are moving towards silicon-carbon batteries, but Samsung is sticking to the old technology with a much smaller battery cell than competitors.

As for cameras, the primary sensor would remain identical at 200MP with f/1.7 aperture. The ultra-wide angle sensor should upgrade from 12MP to 50MP, while the two telephoto could stay the same as S24 Ultra’s: a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x support, OIS, f/3.4 Aperture and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom support, OIS and f/2.4 aperture. In addition, there should be a 12MP front sensor with an f/2.2 for selfies and video calls. As you can see, not a lot of camera upgrades are expected.

Other features, such as 7 major OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates, S-Pen support, IP68-rated water and dust resistant S-Pen and device will also be the same. Connectivity options on the device may include UWB support, Wi-Fi 7, 5G, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi Direct.

Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+: Expected Upgrades

Galaxy s25 slim key specs

The Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ are expected to be a lot similar to their predecessors in terms of specifications, except for two areas, including the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Elite and 12GB of RAM in base models instead of 8GB. Aside from that, the display panels, cameras, battery capacities, and charging speeds will be the same as Galaxy S24 and the S24+.

In terms of design, the bezels around the display could be made thinner but there’s no confirmation for that. On the basis of leaked renders, while the form factor will remain the same, the cameras on the back will have thicker rings, same as the Ultra. One can expect most upgrades in the Ultra model while the Plus and Vanilla devices will mainly have internal changes.

0

A trio of Nothing phones are getting the Circle to Search feature by Google. The list includes the Nothing Phone (2), Phone (2a), and the Phone (2a) Plus. Circle to Search first debuted on the Google and Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphones and has eventually expanded to smartphones from other brands such as Xiaomi, Tecno, Vivo, Oppo, OnePlus, and more.

As announced via a Nothing community post, Nothing phones are getting the Circle to Search feature on Nothing OS 3.0 based on 15. The company adds that Phone (2)Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus have got the feature after passing additional testing. Note that your Nothing device should be running Android 15 to support the feature. To be specific, you are required to be on the following builds to use Circle to Search:

  • Phone (2): Pong-V3.0-241207-0124
  • Phone (2a): Pacman-V3.0-241210-2057
  • Phone (2a) Plus: PacmanPro-V3.0-241126-1448 (Beta build)

While the Nothing Phone (2a) and the Nothing Phone (2) have already received stable Nothing OS 3.0 based on Android 15, the Phone (2a) Plus is still running the beta. In note at the bottom of the post shared by Nothing, the company adds, “Other Nothing smartphones (including Phone (2a) sold in Japan) will support Circle to Search after upgrading to the upcoming NOS 3.0 builds in the future.”

To recall, if a user is using the three-button navigation system, they can long press on the home button, and circle, highlight, scribble on, or tap anything on the screen to see helpful, high-quality search results with Circle to Search. If they are using the gesture navigation system, they’ll have to tap and hold on the navigation bar.

And depending on a user‘s location, for certain searches, generative AI-powered overviews can provide helpful information and context pulled together from across the web, and users can ask more complex and nuanced questions.

YouTube Tests a Play Something Button in YouTube App on Android

0

YouTube is testing a Play Something button in YouTube App on Android, according to what was spotted by a user. The new button plays any random YouTube Shorts and regular long-form videos. Here’s everything else you’d need to know about the new button in the YouTube app.

First reported by Android Police last year and the latest report coming from 9to5Google, the Play Something button in YouTube app on Android appears as a Floating Action Button (FAB) at the bottom right corner of the ‘Home’ tab. This floating action button has a play icon. The ‘Play Something’ text is written in white on a black background, matching the rest of the app’s theme.

9to5Google says that tapping on the button starts a video in the Shorts player. However, this feature isn’t limited to YouTube Shorts—it also applies to regular content, which is displayed in a portrait interface. The layout includes large, easily accessible buttons for like, dislike, comments, and sharing on the right, along with a timeline scrubber at the bottom for seamless navigation.

When the miniplayer is active, the Play something button disappears. The feature was spotted in the latest YouTube app version 19.50 for Android. There’s no word on when or if the feature would be rolled out for everyone.

The streaming platform has rolled out a number of updates for its app in the past few months. This includes an improved mini player, a redesigned YouTube app on TV, QR code-based collaboration for YouTube playlists, and more. It recently also expanded the auto-dubbing feature to thousands of more creators on the platform who are a part of the YouTube Partner Program.

Once you upload any video like you normally would, with auto-dubbing, YouTube will automatically detect the language of your video and create dubbed versions in other languages. YouTube says that if your video is in English, it will be dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. If your video is in any other language, it will be dubbed into English.
