Galaxy S23 Dolby Atmos Sound Affected by Latest One UI 6.1.1 Update

0

Samsung released One 6.1.1 for the Galaxy S23 series about two months ago. While it was a major update introducing new features, it seems that it also brought an issue along with it. After the latest update, the Galaxy S23 Dolby Atmos Sound quality seems to have been adversely affected.

As reported by multiple users on the Samsung Community, the Galaxy S23 Dolby Atmos Sound has been degraded after the One UI 6.1.1 update. One user posted on the Samsung Community and said, “Dolby Music lacks bass. Movie mode just reverbs now, and it sounds a lot worse. Voice mode doesn’t enhance the dialogue quality. Please fix this. It was good before!!! S23 ultra one ui 6.1, Tab S9 one ui 6.1.1. I checked on both devices. It’s the update issue. It’s not device specific.”

While Samsung initially denied the issue, it acknowledged the same after multiple reports surfaced online, including those on Reddit. As a result, the company responded, “We have heard back from our experts! The Dolby Atmos Library has been updated from version 3.10 to 3.12. This update aimed to enhance 360 Audio capabilities. However, this change has altered the sound quality in some audio modes, which might lead some users accustomed to the previous version to perceive the sound quality inferior to earlier versions.”

“The issue has been communicated to Dolby, which plans to release an updated library to address these concerns. Users are reassured that improvements are being considered for future updates. If we can help with anything else in the meantime, let us know. ^SK,” the company added.

Now that Samsung has addressed the issue, it should likely be solved with a future update. However, a timeline hasn’t been provided for when that would happen.

YouTube Tests a Bold Update: Swipe-Up Gesture to Change Video in YouTube Android App

0

YouTube is testing a drastic change where you will be able to use the swipe-up gesture to change video in YouTube app. The new gesture hasn’t rolled out widely and is still being tested with a limited set of users. So far, the change isn’t being well received by the audience.

Spotted by Digital Trends contributor Tushar Mehta on Twitter/X, YouTube is testing a new swipe-up gesture functionality that results in a new video being played. As of now, the swipe-up gesture allows you to exit fullscreen mode. On Android, you can also swipe from either side to leave fullscreen, or use the arrow button in the top left corner. And YouTube seems to be leveraging those extra methods to leave fullscreen for introducing a new swipe-up gesture function.

The swipe-up gesture to change video in YouTube Android app, as of now, doesn’t seem to be the most user-friendly feature as this gesture is mostly suitable for the vertical short-form video content (for instance: YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels).

It is unclear whether the feature will see a wider rollout and YouTube hasn’t officially confirmed anything regarding the same, yet.

Meanwhile, YouTube recently introduced a bunch of other updates for its platform, including an improved mini player, a redesigned YouTube on TV, QR code-based collaboration for YouTube playlists, and much more. The new set of features in YouTube includes fine-tunable playback speed, allowing for adjustments in 0.05 increments.

You’ll also find improved browsing in landscape with greater responsiveness, and larger thumbnails and bigger text, with the change coming to iOS later this year. Additionally, some visual improvements across YouTube are aimed at simplifying the app. YouTube also introduced new customization tools to give playlists a “personal touch.” Users can design their own custom thumbnails for playlists using their own photos or create new ones with generative AI.

Apple Could Monetise Apple Intelligence Without Directly Charging Customers: Here’s How

0

Apple launched Apple Intelligence a few weeks back, that too for free for all of its users. However, offering these features for free is not a viable option for the brand even though it may suit the customers. To solve that, Apple may have found a middle way where it can monetise Apple Intelligence without directly charging the customers.

As spotted by 9to5Mac, inside the Settings app in 18.2, there’s a new ‘Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus’ option. For those unaware, Apple partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT with Siri so Apple’s assistant can get smarter and rack up with other AI-powered assistants available in the market, such as Google’s Gemini.

With the new ‘Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus’ option, Apple is essentially advertising the paid subscription offered by its third-party partner, OpenAI. This is how it plans to monetise Apple Intelligence without directly charging customers, as the company will get a cut from the subscription price if the user decides to subscribe to the third-party partner via Apple.

“Apple also gets to offer ChatGPT Plus as an optional upgrade, profit from it, and let users see Apple as the free option while OpenAI is the one charging,” the 9to5Mac report said. In the iOS 18.2 beta, you’ll find the ChatGPT configuration under a new category called “Extensions.” Currently, ChatGPT is the only option available, but it’s clear that Apple intends to expand this section with more additions in the future.

The company has already hinted towards a potential future partnership with Google for Gemini, which means Apple may also offer Gemini Advanced through the same menu it is currently offering ChatGPT Plus. With each new provider partnering with Apple, the company continues to get a cut from the subscription revenue those plans provide.

In the future, in case Apple decides to keep certain enticing upgrades gated behind a subscription, users may be offered two choices: pay up, with Apple taking a cut, or decide the price isn’t worth it and move on without a second thought. Till the time Apple continues with the existing method to monetise Apple Intelligence, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users get to use Apple Intelligence at no charge.

Google Gemini App for iPhone is Coming Soon

0

Update 15/11/2024: Now Available on the App Store for download.

Original Story Below

Google debuted Gemini on Android devices and iPhones earlier this year, but the major difference between the two is that Android gets its own standalone Gemini app, while there’s no Google Gemini app for iPhone, which can be accessed via the Google app. That could soon change as the standalone Google Gemini app for iPhone has now been spotted in the wild.

According to a Reddit post, users can download and install the dedicated Gemini app on their iPhones. The app also gives iPhone users access to Gemini Live, which wasn’t previously available via the Gemini tab in the Google app for iPhones.

However, it seems like the app hasn’t been released widely, and only users in the Philippines have been able to access it so far. Users in the comments of the Reddit post say they have tried changing their regions from the US to the Philippines to access the app, and they have been successful in downloading and installing it.

There’s no word on when the app will launch worldwide, but so far, we haven’t been able to access it on our iPads here in India via the app store link. The easiest method to quickly access Gemini was to add a shortcut to the AI assistant through the Google widget.

With a standalone Google Gemini app for iPhone, Google will be able to better keep the app in sync with the Android version in terms of features and UI, as the version of Gemini is still far behind compared to the Android version because the latter has features like Gemini Live and a more minimal UI.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE vs Galaxy S24: What will be Common?

0

Samsung has already revealed plans to introduce a cheaper foldable smartphone, and leaks suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip FE will be the Korean brand’s first such foldable. The Galaxy Z Flip FE processor details have been leaked, indicating that it will use the same chipset as the Galaxy S24 from earlier this year.

The Galaxy Z Flip FE processor was leaked by Jukanlosreve on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting it could be equipped with an Exynos 2400 processor, the same SoC used in the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+. Previous rumours suggested that the device could use a Snapdragon 7-series processor, but if the latest leak is to be believed, the Exynos 2400 could prove to be a better chipset, as per our experience with the chip in the Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung has always used flagship processors in its FE products, which are a generation old. Considering the Galaxy Z Flip FE is rumoured to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 next year, the Exynos 2400 seems like an apt choice.

In addition, the leaker also said that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to have the Exynos 2500 under the hood. This would also mark a major shift in strategy as every foldable from Samsung has used a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip till now. Moreover, with what Samsung has done with the Exynos 2400, it’ll be exciting to see how the company further improves its chipset’s capabilities with the Exynos 2500.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 series, which is coming early next year, was also rumoured to employ the dual-chip strategy. However, leaks now indicate that Samsung will give up on that strategy, at least for this year, as all the devices in the S25 series could use the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.

The Workspace suite of apps includes Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs/Sheets/Slides, Chat, and Meet, and Google Vids is the latest addition for users to create collaborative and shareable videos through a more convenient way than ever. Google is marketing Vids as a new workspace tool for fun storytelling alongside other tools like PowerPoint, Docs, Sheets, etc. “People tell stories at work every day, whether it’s HR onboarding new employees to the organisation’s mission, the training team creating digital learning experiences, or a salesperson pitching a new client on the benefits of their offering”, says Google in a blog post. Some of the best use cases of Google Vids highlighted by Google include:

Google mentioned that usage limits for these features may be introduced starting in 2026, and the company will inform users in advance for the same.

Google Vids is rolling out now and may take up to 15 days to become fully available for Google Workspace accounts, including Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Essentials Plus, and Education Plus. Google recommends updating your to the latest version for the best experience. Supported browsers include Chrome, Firefox, and (for Windows devices only).
