Ask about this PDF Gemini Overlay Now Rolling Out on Android

0

Google previewed a new feature back in May at its I/O 2024 event called Ask about this PDF Gemini overlay which is now widely rolling out on Android. The feature allows users to ask Gemini about a PDF that is opened on the screen. The assistant can analyse the PDF and then answer the queries raised by the user.

Spotted by 9to5Google, in the updated PDF viewer within the Files by Google app, activating the Gemini overlay introduces a new “Ask about this PDF” option. Currently, this feature is exclusive to the Files and isn’t available in Google Drive’s viewer, which continues to display the generic “Ask about this screen” prompt found in other apps. The feature has been spotted in version 16.0.5 of the Google app, which is currently in beta and should soon be released in the stable build of the Google app as well.

Ask about this pdf gemini feature

When you tap “Ask about this PDF,” the document begins uploading, allowing you to type a query into the “Ask Gemini” field. The send button remains grayed out until the upload is complete. Once processed, the answer is displayed as an overlay with the PDF visible in the background. You can continue asking additional questions afterward.

This process mirrors uploading a file directly to the Gemini app and conducting the conversation there, but the experience is slightly more streamlined here. Document upload is limited to Gemini Advanced customers and leverages the model’s extended context window for processing.

In related news to Gemini, Google recently announced the integration of Gemini in Google TVs for an all-rounded AI experience. The Gemini model on Google TV enables you to do other things like create customised artwork with the family, control your smart home devices while your TV is in ambient mode, and even get an overview of the day’s news. Gemini in Google TVs will begin rolling out later this year on select devices. The company hasn’t specified the exact TV models Gemini would be made available on.

OnePlus 13R Launched in India: What has Upgraded Over OnePlus 12R?

0

OnePlus has announced the launch of the OnePlus 13R in India alongside the OnePlus 13. The new handset comes as a successor to the OnePlus 12R from last year and here’s everything the device has to offer, including its specifications, and how has it improved compared to its predecessor.

OnePlus 13R: Price, Availability

The OnePlus 13R costs Rs 42,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model while the 16GB + 512GB trim costs Rs 49,999. It is available in Astral Trail and Nebula Noir colour options. One can purchase it via OnePlus.in, OnePlus Store App, Amazon.in and offline retail partners such as OnePlus Experience Stores, Reliance Digital, Croma, Vijay Sales, Bajaj Electronics, and others starting January 13.

Launch offers include instant bank discount of up to Rs 3,000 for ICICI Bank Credit Card customers while buyers can also avail up to 12-months of No-cost on Bajaj Finserv and other leading credit cards, along with some exchange offers also.

OnePlus 13R: Specifications

OnePlus Ace 5-13R

The OnePlus 13R sports a 6.78-inch LTPO 4.1 AMOLED Display with a 1.5K Resolution (2780 x 1264 pixels), 1Hz – 120Hz refresh rate, 4500 nits peak brightness, 100% DCI-P3, 2160Hz PWM Dimming, and 94.2% screen-to-body ratio. The panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC powers the device with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Additionally, the OnePlus 13R has a triple camera setup at the rear including a 50MP f/1.8 Sony LYT700 primary sensor with OIS, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor, and a 50MP f/2.0 Samsung JN5 telephoto camera. On the front, there is a 16MP f/2.4 sensor for selfies and video calls.

It is backed by a 6000mAh battery that supports 80W SuperVOOC wired charging. Connectivity options include 5G, NFC, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth v5.4, and USB-C for charging. Further, it runs on OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. Lastly, it equips stereo speakers with Dolby Atmosm, is IP65 rated, and gets an X-Axis Linear Vibration Motor.

OnePlus 13R vs OnePlus 12R

The OnePlus 13R base price has gone up by Rs 2,000 compared to OnePlus 12R’s base price of Rs 39,999. For this price bump, you get more storage and RAM in the OnePlus 13R base model itself, along with a similar display as 12R. Further, the has been upgraded from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to the 8 Gen 3.

The macro sensor of the 12R has been replaced with a telephoto sensor in the 13R which is a significant step up in the camera department. The battery is now also bigger in the 13R, compared to the 5500mAh cell of the OnePlus 12R. Next, the IP rating has also been bumped up from IP64 to IP65. The only spec that has downgraded is the charging speed, which has gone down from 100W to 80W in 13R. Because the battery capacity has also increased, the OnePlus 13R could take longer to charge compared to the 12R.

Overall, we feel OnePlus has justified the increase in price of the 13R over the 12R. The OnePlus 13R is looking like a value-for-money premium mid-range smartphone as of now, which should give a tough competition to many upcoming devices at this price point.

OnePlus 13 Launched in India: Does it Stand a Chance in Front of iQOO 13?

0

The OnePlus 13 launched in India on January 7 as the brand’s latest flagship smartphone. The device was launched in China last year with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The device competes with the likes of iQOO 13 in India, which also comes packed with the same processor. Here are the details of the launch and a quick comparison of OnePlus 13 with the iQOO 13 to check whether it stands a chance against the iQOO device or not.

OnePlus 13: Price, Availability

The OnePlus 13 starts at Rs 69,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant in India. The 16GB RAM + 512GB costs Rs 76,999 and 24GB + 1TB trim costs and Rs 89,999, respectively. It is available in Arctic Dawn, Black Eclipse, and Midnight Ocean shades. It will be available from OnePlus.in, OnePlus Store App, Amazon.in and offline retail partners such as OnePlus Experience Stores, Reliance Digital, Croma, Vijay Sales, Bajaj Electronics, and others from January 10.

As for offers, ICICI Bank Credit Card customers can avail an instant bank discount of up to Rs 5,000 while consumers can also avail up to 12-months of No-cost on Bajaj Finserv and other leading credit cards.

OnePlus 13: Specifications

OnePlus 13 colours

The OnePlus 13 5G sports a 6.82-inch QHD+ (3168 x 1440 pixels) 120Hz 3D AMOLED LTPO display. Furthermore, there is 4500 nits of peak brightness, adsptive refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, 93.5% screen-to-body ratio, Dolby Vision support and Crystal Shield ultra-ceramic glass protection. The Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC powers the OnePlus 13 with up to 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Additionally, the OnePlus handset has a triple camera setup at the rear including a 50MP f/1.6 Sony LYT-808 primary sensor with two-axis OIS, 50MP f/2.0 Samsung JN5 ultra-wide angle sensor, and a 50MP f/2.6 Sony LYT-600 periscope telephoto camera with OIS, 3x Optical Zoom support and 120x Digital Zoom support. It is backed by a 6000mAh battery that supports 100W SuperVOOC charging, 50W wireless charging with magnetic charging support, 10W reverse wireless charging, and 5W reverse wired charging.

Connectivity options include 5G, NFC, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth v5.4, and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port for charging. Further, it runs on OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. Lastly, it supports stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, has an upgraded Bionic Vibration Motor, four-mic array, and is IP68 + IP69 rated.

OnePlus 13 vs iQOO 13

The OnePlus 13 launched with a starting price of Rs 69,999 in India while the iQOO 13 starts at Rs 54,999. Both the devices have excellent displays but the iQOO 13 is a slightly better phone in this aspect if you want a higher as it packs a 144Hz refresh rate panel. This would allow for a better experience, particularly for gamers as the content would look smoother in supported games.

Both of them have the same so you can expect ultimate performance from both of them. In the RAM and storage department, though, the OnePlus 13 takes the lead as it offers a 24GB + 1TB model while iQOO 13 tops out at 16GB + 512GB version.

Iqoo 13 shades

Software is also where the OnePlus 13 shines with OxygenOS 15 smoothness and customisation. We feel OnePlus’ software is far more fluid and polished than iQOO’s FunTouch OS 15. iQOO and OnePlus will both offer 4 years of OS updates but OnePlus is set to offer 6 years of security patches while iQOO will offer for 5 years.

As for the cameras, they have identical setups so we won’t comment on which one’s the better out of the two as we haven’t tested them in real world scenarios. They both have a 6000mAh battery and while OnePlus 13 has 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, iQOO 13 has only 120W wired charging. The OnePlus 13 also supports a range of magnetic charging accessories which is something not available in iQOO 13.

The iQOO 13 poses a tough competition to the OnePlus 13 with a cheaper price tag and a smoother display. In other words, if you are someone who requires a smartphone for gaming and can work with FunTouch OS 15, then you may consider iQOO’s smartphone but if you want an all-rounded experience which is much more polished, paying a Rs 15,000 premium for the OnePlus 13 over the iQOO 13 shouldn’t hurt either.

The xboom speakers conduct AI analysis on the content being played to automatically adjust AI Sound, switching to sound options that accentuate the melody, rhythm, or voice. The AI Lighting feature keeps the speakers’ bar lights pulsing in multicolored sync for added ambiance.

AI Calibration allows speakers to instantly recognize their surroundings to fill various indoor or outdoor spaces with ample sound. And for the first time, xboom speakers now feature a dedicated button for users to instantly connect to will.i.am’s RAiDiO.FYI platform to enjoy various infotainment content tailored for each listener by an AI Radio Host.

Next, users can enjoy their content with amplified sound through the LE Audio Auracast feature that connects multiple xboom units for a seamlessly synchronized audio output. Even without Auracast support on their smartphones, users can experience synchronized audio across multiple units with the xboom speaker serving as the master unit. Moreover, users can enjoy the xboom signature sound that is further enhanced by built-in tweeters and full-range units created by Peerless, the Danish premium transducer manufacturer.

xboom Bounce

The 2025 audio product line is spearheaded by the xboom Bounce, which comes packed with built-in, up-bouncing passive radiators, dual dome tweeters and track-type woofer. The Bounce is capable of delivering high-frequency stereo with precise highs and an expanded soundstage, surrounding listeners with enhanced clarity and depth. The name “Bounce” comes from its up-bouncing passive radiators that visibly bounce and light up in beat to the music.

It incorporates a versatile strap that enables users to hold the speaker securely in one hand, hang it on a hook, or place it on a tabletop. With a water and dust resistance rating and Military Standard 810G durability, this speaker’s built-in battery lasts up to 30 hours.

It also comes with straps for securing snugly to the arm or slinging over hooks and handles.
