WhatsApp To Show Recently Online Contacts

0

WhatsApp is seemingly working on a couple of new features where it will allow users to check contacts who were recently online through the contacts page. Aside from that, the app could also allow users to privately mention other of their contacts in their Status updates. Here’s what all is known about the features.

Both the new features were spotted by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp feature tracker. According to its report, a new section listing recent online contacts is available within the contacts list to some WhatsApp beta testers on Android. The new menu displays a limited number of recently active contacts, particularly when attempting to select contacts to place a call with, as shown in the screenshot below.

The tracker notes that the feature prioritizes user privacy, as contacts who have disabled their last seen and online updates will have this information hidden from this list.

Aside from this feature, WhatsApp is also working on the ability to privately mention contacts in status updates. With it enabled, when a contact is mentioned in a status update, only they will receive a notification specifically for that mention, ensuring they are always promptly informed. Only the mentioned contacts will know that they were mentioned in the update and only they’ll be notified.

The tracker also notes that muting a status update will prevent users from receiving any mentions from the muted contact. In addition, mentioned contacts won’t appear in status updates because they are always private, ensuring they stay confidential and only visible to the intended recipients. This feature will be available in the app in the future and is currently in development.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp officially announced the Chat filters feature in the app. To start, you can choose between three filters that will appear at the top of your chat list: All, Unread and Groups, which can be selected with just a tap. It will make the users’ experience more organized, find your most important conversations in a convenient manner and navigate through messages more efficiently.

HMD Pulse, HMD Pulse Pro Leak In All Their Glory: Specs, Renders

0

Human Mobile Devices (HMD) announced earlier this year that it won’t be sitting in the backseat anymore while Nokia-branded smartphones keep being pushed out. Now, the smartphones on which HMD is working, including the HMD Pulse and the HMD Pulse Pro have been briefly leaked, including their detailed renders and some specs as well.

HMD Pulse: Key Specs, Renders (Leaked)

HMD Pulse renders

HMD Pulse renders were leaked by OnLeaks (via MySmartPrice) according to which the device will be available in Blue, Black, and Pink. It seems to have a basic design we have seen already on smartphones from other brands, such as Vivo and iQOO. There’s a square camera module at the top-left corner which has two cameras, while on the front, there’s a punch-hole selfie camera.

What’s surprising though, is that despite being positioned as a budget smartphone, that smartphone seems to have equal bezels around the display, unlike most other devices that have an oddly thick chin, and that may be the USP of the smartphone.

As for the key specs, the HMD Pulse will feature a 6.56-inch IPS display with a hole-punch design. It should equip a 13MP primary rear camera and a 5000mAh battery. The device is said to be powered by an octa-core chipset, and a previous leak says it could be the Unisoc T606 paired with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The device may run on 14 out of the box. It could soon launch in India.

HMD Pulse Pro: Key Specs, Renders, Price (Leaked)

Hmd pulse pro renders

As leaked by the same source but via 91Mobiles, the HMD Pulse Pro will have a flat display with thin bezels around and a punch hole on the top for the selfie shooter. However, the bezels aren’t even as seen on the Pulse.

The rear panel, on the other hand, seems to have almost a similar design to the HMD Pulse. It will further have a textured finish for better grip along with a rectangular camera module housing two circular and an LED flash located on the top left corner. The right spine of the upcoming smartphone features the volume and power buttons and while the bottom isn’t visible, we can expect it to have a 3.5mm jack along with a speaker grille and a USB-C port for charging.

The leaked information also suggests that the HMD Pulse Pro will be launched with at least 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, and it will be available for EUR 179, which is approximately Rs 15,900 when converted to INR.

Regarding the specifications, the HMD Pulse Pro will sport a 6.56-inch IPS panel with a 1480×720 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. It will be equipped with the Unisoc T606 SoC paired with at least 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The rear may get a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Additionally, this HMD phone will pack a 50MP front camera.

It may pack a 5,000mAh battery. However, there is no mention of the support on the HMD phone. Other features might include an IP52-rated build and a 3.5mm Jack. The phone might weigh around 196 grams.

YouTube Doesn’t Want Third-Party Ad Blockers Near Its Service

0

YouTube began cracking down on ad-blockers on desktop as early as last year and back in 2022, it made sure to shut down YouTube Vanced, an that offered paid YouTube features for free. Now, the company has furthered its crackdown on third-party ad blockers by restricting access to YouTube content for those who use ad blockers to skip advertisements.

YouTube said that it’s “Strengthening its enforcement on third-party apps that violate the platform’s terms of service, specifically ad-blocking apps.” In addition, viewers using such third-party ad blockers may “experience buffering issues” or encounter the error, “The following content is not available on this app” when trying to play a video.

This would ensure that third-party ad blockers, which are often used on mobile, won’t be able to serve their primary purpose, which is to skip ads on the platform. “We want to emphasize that our terms don’t allow third-party apps to turn off ads because that prevents the creator from being rewarded for viewership”, said YouTube in the post.

Moreover, YouTube has also encouraged users to buy YouTube Premium subscriptions for an “Ad-free experience” rather than relying on ad blockers. The streaming service says that it only allows third-party apps to use their API when they follow YouTube’s API Services Terms of Service.

Using ad blockers significantly impacts YouTube’s monetisation strategy for both the creators and the service itself. Blocking such unethical methods of watching ad-free content on the platform would allow YouTube to lure in a good amount of new subscribers for YouTube Premium and at the same time, it would also force users to watch content with ads if they don’t want to subscribe, which is also beneficial for the service.

Moto G64 5G First Impression: Impressively Built

0

Motorola has debuted a new smartphone in the budget segment, the Moto G64 5G. The handset succeeds the Moto G54 5G from last year and seems to offer some appealing features. Here’s our comprehensive first look at the new Moto G64 5G, where we delve into the contents of the device’s box and provide detailed insights into its features and specifications.

Moto G64 5G: In-box contents, Build Quality

Inside the Moto G64 5G box you will find a 33W fast charger, a USB-C cable, manuals, a silicone transparent case, and a ejector tool.

Motorola sent us the Mint green unit with 12GB and 256GB storage. The device has a plastic frame and an acrylic polycarbonate back panel that feels quite premium in the hand. It also feels dense in the hand and is quite compact. The fingerprint sensor is integrated with the power button and works as it should. The volume buttons are on the right as well. The 3.5mm and USB-C port are at the bottom.

The device gets a stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support and Moto Spatial Sound, where you can also see the branding for the former on the top side of the handset. The speakers are loud and crisp with vocals, however, they do lack bass. Overall, we’d say the Moto G64 5G is impressively built for the price point at which it’s being offered, and there’s not a lot to complain about in terms of build quality.

Moto G64 5G: Display & Software

The Moto G64 5 G’s display is a 120Hz panel with a full-HD+ resolution, Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The LCD panel produces sharp content with good colour reproduction. However, it has its drawbacks, too, which we’ll discuss in detail in the handset’s full review. The display’s chin looks odd as it’s relatively thicker than other sides, but you get used to it within a few days of usage.

As for the power under the hood, the Moto G64 5G is the first smartphone in the world to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensoty 7025 and is making its debut with the Indian market. It has up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB 2.2 storage, which is also expandable.

It comes with 14 out of the box based on MyUX and will receive 1 major Android upgrade with 3 years of security patches. Out of 256GB storage, around 248GB is available to the user when they set up the phone for the first time. The device comes with the February 2024 security patch and hasn’t received any update, even though its April.

Moto g64 5g first impression

Performance-wise, the Moto G64 5G hasn’t disappointed us so far in our first impression. The animations are smooth and snappy as well. Regarding bloatware, the device packs some pre-installed apps such as Kotak811, Brain Test, etc., and asks you to install more when setting up. Fortunately, most of it is uninstallable.

Motorola says the handset will receive the Hello UI update (seen on Motorola Edge 50 Pro) in due time, but there’s no exact release date as of now. Even without it, there’s a good level of customization on offer, such as wallpaper-based colour theming, various fonts, themes, and a lot more.

As for the battery, it packs a 6000mAh battery and 33W that’s one of the USPs of the handser considering we don’t see a lot of handsets packing such a big cell in this price range. We don’t have any doubts regarding the battery backup of the device but we’ll be able to give you more precise results in terms of numbers in the full review. It gets a 50MP camera plus an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor on the back, both of which seem to shoot decent photos but we have to test it a little more for a better analysis.

Based on our first impression, we are impressed with the Moto G64 5G, and it may be one of the best options available in its price range.

The full review of Moto G64 5G, which will be up in a few days, will provide a detailed analysis of the performance, operating system, battery backup, and camera features. Stay tuned.
