Moto G64 5G Vs Realme 12 5G: Which One Should You Buy?

0

Motorola launched the Moto G64 5G in India with a rather affordable price tag and at a price point where a bunch of other players are already operating, one of them being the Realme 12 5G. Launched back in March, the Realme 12 5G is competing head-to-head with the Moto G64 5G, so here’s a comparison between the two on the basis of on-paper specs to help you decide which one to purchase.

Display

The Moto G64 5G gets a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a punch-hole cutout and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Realme 12 5G on the other hand gets a 6.72-inch IPS LCD Display with an FHD+ Resolution and offers a 120Hz refresh rate, 950 nits peak brightness and up to 240Hz touch sampling rate.

Both have similar panels, meaning the overall experience should be similar. However, the winner in this segment will depend on the colour tuning and other factors that affect real-world usage.

Software & Performance

Realme 12 5G versus Moto G64

Under the hood, the Realme 12 5G equips a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ 5G SoC, up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM, and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. The device runs on Android 14-based Realme UI 5.0. The Moto G64 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 octa-core Chipset paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage that is further expandable up to 1TB. The phone runs on Android 14-based MyUX 5.0 custom skin out of the box.

In comparison, the chip on the Moto G64 5G is far more capable and powerful than the one in Realme 12 5G. Not only that, but the Moto G64 5G also gets you a near operating system with essential customisation options that would appeal to those who want a minimal experience. Realme UI is suitable for those who want a lot of customisation but the experience can sometimes be overwhelming. Finally, Motorola also offers more RAM and storage in both of its variants of Moto G64 5G.

Battery & Cameras

The Moto G64 5G packs a 6000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, while the Realme 12 5G has a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging. While the Realme device would definitely charge quicker, the Moto smartphone would last much longer on a single charge, which is more important than a quicker charging speed. We’d say the Moto G64 5G wins here, too.

As for cameras, the Realme 12 5G finally takes the lead with its primary 108MP rear sensor compared to the 50MP sensor on the Moto G64 5G. However, it falls short in terms of auxiliary sensors, where it gets a 2MP portrait sensor that’s not worthy enough in front of Moto’s 8MP ultra-wide angle lens. We think there is a tie between the two in terms of the cameras’ on-paper specs.

Verdict

The Realme 12 5G is falling behind in many areas compared to the Moto G64 5G. The final blow comes in the form of price, where the 6GB + 128GB variant of Realme 12 5G costs Rs 16,999 while the 8GB + 128GB trim costs Rs 17,999 while Motorola’s handset costs Rs 14,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model and Rs 16,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant in India. The pricing and other factors considered, the Moto G64 5G becomes the obvious choice in front of the Realme 12 5G.

X To Charge Fees From Newcomers To Deter Bots

0

In a bid to combat the persistent bots problem, Elon Musk announced a new policy that may soon come into effect where X will require new users to pay a small fee to post on the platform for the initial period after they join the platform. This decision comes as part of a series of measures aimed at enhancing the authenticity and security of user interactions.

Elon Musk stated that the implementation of a fee for new accounts on X is the “only way” to effectively halt the “onslaught of bots” that have been plaguing the platform. The fee is expected to deter automated accounts, which can easily bypass traditional bot detection systems like CAPTCHA. However, the fee implementation won’t be permanent. While replying to another user, Musk added that new accounts would be able to post for free after three months of creation of their account.

While the exact fee amount and the date of implementation are yet to be disclosed, the move follows a similar strategy that was tested in regions such as the Philippines and New Zealand back in October 2023, where new users were charged a nominal annual fee to gain posting privileges.

The initiative by Musk has sparked a mix of reactions from the public and industry experts. Some applaud the proactive approach to maintaining the integrity of the platform, while others express concerns about the potential barrier it could create for genuine new users.

X’s commitment to tackling bots extends beyond this measure. The company has also been refining its algorithms and recently purged a significant number of fake accounts, warning users of possible fluctuations in follower counts.

Meanwhile, X recently also launched Community Notes feature in India. Community Notes is a feature on X which is essentially handled by the users of X to fact check information and present other users with the correct context and information in case the displayed post is misleading or is incorrect in terms of facts. Here’s how it works and how you can apply for X Community Notes in India.

Here’s A Feature Pixel 9 Series Could Borrow From iPhone

0

Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series has been leaked multiple times before but some information is still left, such as the satellite connectivity feature which the series may borrow from the Apple iPhones considering Apple was the first one to bring it to its smartphones with iPhone 14 series back in 2022. Here are all the details about the upcoming feature.

Google is seemingly planning on bringing satellite connectivity support to the Pixel lineup, beginning with the Google Pixel 9 series. It will be made possible via a new Samsung-made Google will be using. The Tensor G4 SoC, coming first to the Pixel 9 series, is bringing a brand-new modem, and it will be the Samsung Modem 5400, according to a report by Android Authority.

The new modem will bring power and efficiency upgrades over the previous generations that were used in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series. Along with improved stability, there’s support for 3GPP Rel. 17 which brings support for non-terrestrial networks (NTN), or satellite-based communication in other words.

The modem will be making its way to all the Tensor G4-powered devices that will have cellular support, including the Pixel 9 series and the next-generation Pixel Fold. The report says that Google is also working on a 5G tablet, codenamed “Clementine,” with the same modem. However, it’s unclear when or if the device will make it into the hands of the public.

The Pixel 9 series will be the first to support Android’s native satellite implementation. Much like the iPhone, it seems like the satellite connectivity feature will only be supported in the US models of Pixel 9 series at the time of launch via the T-Mobile carrier. The satellite link will allow for texting, but not calling. Additionally, a special “Satellite Gateway” app will allow for easy communications with emergency services via a feature called “Emergency SOS.” Aside from this feature, Google already seems to be taking notes from Apple for the entire Pixel 9 series lineup.

Apple iOS 18 To Have Only On-Device AI At Launch

0

Artificial Intelligence is gradually creeping its way into smartphones, and Apple is the latest brand to adopt it with its upcoming iOS 18 update. A new development suggests that Apple will only rely on on-device features rather than using cloud-based ones as Samsung and Google do.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg shared the news, saying, “As the world awaits Apple’s big AI unveiling on June 10, it looks like the initial wave of features will work entirely on-device. That means there’s no cloud processing component to the company’s large language model, the software that powers the new capabilities.”

He also claims that iOS 18 is being considered internally to be the biggest upgrade in the iPhone’s history. The adoption of local on-device AI processing has its potential advantages and drawbacks which Apple may face. While users will enjoy faster responses and improved privacy with data on their devices, but this strategy might limit access to the robust cloud-based resources typically required for advanced AI functions.

For instance, both Google and Samsung use the Google Gemini Nano model to power a subset of cloud-based AI features. However, Samsung does offer a way to enable only on-device processing if the user wants to, otherwise the content does go to Google’s servers for optimal results.

Apple will most likely adopt this approach to showcase its commitment to privacy and security as usual. It’s possible that may add new features in the future that will also leverage the Google Gemini Nano model, as it was reported recently. The brand is expected to introduce significant changes to Siri with generative AI capabilities that would align it with the competition, such as Google’s Gemini.

In addition, we may also see features like advanced image editing tools in the built-in Photos app, Spotlight search, and more. A list of compatible models that are expected to receive the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 updates was also leaked online recently.

Tata and Shell to Establish More EV Charging Stations

0

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) and Shell India Markets Private Limited (SIMPL) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish more public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India.

TPEM and Shell India have outlined plans to establish 10,000 EV charging points by 2030 as per news reports. Shell aims to install fast chargers at its fuel stations and standalone EV hubs, ensuring capabilities through high-capacity direct-current (DC) chargers.

The MoU outlines plans to create charging stations at key locations frequented by Tata EV owners. It also includes developing new payment systems and loyalty programs to improve customer service and value.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, said, “This collaboration with Shell is a step towards expanding the EV ecosystem in India. By combining Shell’s service standards with our understanding of EV utilization, we aim to change the charging experience and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.”

Sanjay Varkey, Director at Shell India Markets Pvt. Ltd., commented on the initiative’s focus on digital integration and customer-oriented services. “Shell is committed to defining the EV charging experience by providing solutions that focus on convenience, safety, and sustainability. This partnership will utilize our expertise to support a sustainable and efficient charging infrastructure,” Varkey noted.

Infinix Note 40 5G Series: Competitors

The Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G has to go against Vivo T3 5G which also has a price tag of Rs 21,999 for the top-end 8GB + 256GB model. The Vivo device offers mostly the same specs as the Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G but with a far better that’s going to help it in the long run. However, if you prefer curved displays over flat ones and if you want wireless charging support at all costs, then Infinix’s device is a better pick.

As for the Note 40 Pro+ 5G, it’s competing with the recently launched OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G. The OnePlus device compromises with RAM and storage but it does get you a better processor, an ultra-wide angle sensor on the back, and a bigger battery with the same 100W fast wired charging which are worth the tradeoffs for the same price.

At Rs 22,999, there’s also the Poco X6 5G which has a chipset better than both the Infinix devices. Not only that, but it offers 512GB of storage that’s double what both Infinix Note 40 series phones offer. It also has a bigger battery but the tradeoff is that it runs on Android 13 out of the box.
