Nothing Phone (3) Will Have AI, Coming In 2025

0

Nothing Phone (3) has been rumoured for a while now and while everyone has been expecting its launch in 2024, it has now been pushed back until 2025. Further, the device is confirmed to be loaded with features which the Nothing co-founder teased in a video posted online.

Carl Pei took to X to share how the “hype around AI” is building up along with what’s in works at Nothing with regards to that specific technology. “It’s great to see new companies rethinking the user experience and form factors. However, there is no doubt that smartphones will remain the main consumer AI form factor for the foreseeable future. With over 4 billion users and over 1 billion smartphones shipped every year—the numbers speak for themselves,” said Pei.

Pei adds that the “current user experience hasn’t evolved for more than a decade!,” and that the “next era needs a highly personalized, dynamic, and cross-device interface.” As a result, the UK-based brand has been prototyping AI interactions for the past couple of months and was able to develop what looks like an AI voice assistant baked into the OS, that’s looking highly similar to the recently demoed GPT-4o voice mode.

Aside from that, Nothing showed a personalised, dynamic home screen that combines what appears to be an launcher and a news feed. It is automatically able to identify that you are going to need a ticket for which it shows a QR code. It is further shown fetching content from the web, and feed the user with relevant reminders and weather. Such new tools are expected to bring about a significant change in the industry and a shift towards adopting AI rather than the usual app-centric approach.

Nothing Phone (3) Coming In 2025

Pei also wrote in the post, “Today, I want to show you some initial concepts to give you a better idea of what I’m talking about. Expect this to be improved and gradually introduced, starting with Phone (3) next year. It’s important we get the product right, integrating hardware and AI in a way that is both useful and brings a smile to people’s face.”

This confirms that the Phone (3) is coming in 2025. The brand further reiterated the same in a mail sent to 9to5Google. The brand did potentially hint that the product is in works earlier last month when Pei himself teased a new smartphone that had an additional button which hasn’t ever been seen on Nothing smartphones before. The company, however, has recently begun teasing another new product that’s expected to be the CMF Phone (1).

Samsung Ad Accidentally Reveals Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Confirms Redesign

0

Samsung is currently being rumoured to host the next Galaxy Unpacked on July 10 and at the event, the company is set to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, a potentially official Samsung Ad has accidentally revealed the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Some of the users spotted what appears to be the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 ad banner on Samsung Kazakhstan’s website. The ad shows both the foldables in all their glory and confirm that a redesign for the bigger one, Galaxy Z Fold 6, is indeed coming which will be one of the biggest revamps since the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Similar to what the leaked renders suggested, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 can be seen having a boxier design with flatter sides and a new aspect ratio for the cover display. The design seems to have taken inspiration from that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The top of the device can be seen sporting three holes potentially for mics alongside a speaker grille. The Fold 6 appears in a grey colour which may have a titanium frame. Three cameras lie on the back paired with an flash.

As for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, it gets the same folder icon-like shaped cover display as last year’s Z Flip 5 with two cameras on top. The cameras have a blue ring around them, matching the colour of the frame, thereby giving it a dual-tone look. The sides are flatter than that of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, while on the right spine lies the fingerprint sensor as well as the volume buttons.

The Z Fold 6 will have a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED cover display and a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED inner display, both of which will support 120Hz refresh rate. At the front, it could use the Corning Gorilla Armour for cover display protection while the inner panel should use Samsung’s Ultra-thin glass. Both panels may support up to 2600 nits peak brightness. In addition, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chipset paired with 12 or 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of 4.0 storage.

YouTube Fixes Disappearing Like Button Bug

0

YouTube is a platform run by content creators and the audience can easily convey their feedback to the creator by liking or disliking the video through two respective buttons for these functions. However, one of these buttons, specifically the like button, recently suffered a bug on YouTube website where the thumbs-up icon would disappear after you clicked on it. This issue has now been fixed by the streaming platform.

The issue came to light when several users on Reddit began posting that the thumbs up icon would just disappear after you’d click on the like button on YouTube website in a browser, leaving an empty grey space. YouTube was quick to acknowledge the issue on a Google support page and confirmed the issue persisted only on YouTube’s web platform and not the app.

”We’re aware that a few of you are having an issue where you don’t see the thumbs up icon showing up beneath some videos. This isn’t working as intended so we’re checking this out now. Note that this is only happening on web, you should still see the icon on mobile!,” the post read.

It further added that the button still works, but the thumbs up icon would just hide. Soon after, the post was updated where it read, “The issue has been fixed. Thanks for your patience!”

Meanwhile, back in April, YouTube began cracking down on ad-blockers. It said that viewers using such third-party ad blockers may “experience buffering issues” or encounter the error, “The following content is not available on this app” when trying to play a video. This would ensure that third-party ad blockers, which are often used on mobile, won’t be able to serve their primary purpose, which is to skip ads on the platform. “We want to emphasize that our terms don’t allow third-party apps to turn off ads because that prevents the creator from being rewarded for viewership”, said YouTube in a post.

Corning Gorilla Glass 7i Announced For Mid-Range Smartphones

0

Corning has been pioneering the industry for years with its Gorilla Glass and while it generally announces top-tier cover glasses, it has now announced a new product called Gorilla Glass 7i that’ll serve as one of the best options for mid-range smartphones. The glass will sit between Gorilla Glass 5 and the Gorilla Glass Victus.

Corning says that the “Gorilla Glass 7i broadens Corning’s renowned tough cover glass portfolio, offering better drop and scratch performance compared to competitive lithium aluminosilicate glasses from other manufacturers.” Gorilla Glass 7i survived drops of up to one meter on surfaces replicating asphalt in Corning’s lab tests. Glasses from competitor brands made of lithium aluminosilicate typically failed when dropped from half a meter or less, according to Corning.

Additionally, Gorilla Glass 7i is up to two times more scratch resistant than competitive lithium aluminosilicate cover glasses. The 7i is made for a wide variety of devices as it will be serving the value segment which sees more additions than the flagship models from smartphone manufacturers.

Corning revealed that Oppo will be the first company to unveil a phone that’ll equip the Gorilla Glass 7i. While 7i will mostly be used on phones, it is also usable on smartwatches and other devices which need a protective cover glass.

Gorilla Glass 7i will be positioned between the Gorilla Glass 5 that launched back in 2016 and the Gorilla Glass Victus. Smartphones like 8a use Gorilla Glass 3 which debuted back in 2013. There’s definitely a need for a new cover protective glass in the mid-range segment and Corning aims to deliver in it.

Meanwhile, Corning also released an entirely unique and segment-defining product earlier this year, employed on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Dubbed Corning Gorilla Armor, it is a different kind of smartphone cover material. Compared to a typical glass surface, Corning Gorilla Armor reduces reflection by up to 75%, which enhances display readability and minimises screen reflections in almost any environment. On a rigorous scratch test, Gorilla Armor showed no visible scratches and demonstrated over four times more scratch resistance than competitive aluminosilicate cover glasses.

Google Is Losing Its Bet On AI Overviews As It Dials Down Their Visibility

0

Google acknowledged the Overviews fiasco that unfolded over the past few weeks after Google I/O, and as a result, it is now drastically reducing the probability of an AI Overview appearing as a response to the user’s search query. This is significant, considering AI Overviews has played a major role in Google’s AI product portfolio.

A report from Wired which cites data from Brightedge suggests that the average appearance of AI Overviews in search results has dropped to just 11 percent of queries, down from around 27 percent when the tool launched publicly in mid-May. Compared to back in December 2023, when AI overviews was an opt-in experience called Search Generative Experience, the visibility of these has dropped down by a whopping 84 percent.

Industry-wise, Google’s AI Overviews continue to appear most often in Healthcare where 63% of the times you’ll see an AI overview, down from 76% in January. AI Overviews now appear in less than 1% of searches for Restaurants (down from 36% in January) and Travel (down from 30% in January).

In a statement to Wired, Google said, “We’re continuing to refine when and how we show AI Overviews so they’re as useful as possible, including a number of technical updates in the past week to improve response quality.” However, Google didn’t corroborate the stats shared by Brightedge or gave its own.

Google said in a blog post earlier last week that the odd results in AI overviews were due to what’s called a “data void” or “information gap,” where there’s a limited amount of high quality content about a topic. Because of these data voids, users were served with results such as when they were told eat one rock a day when they asked Google “How many rocks should I eat?.” Google has identified that it needs to improve the results in areas including where it has to interpret nonsensical queries and satirical content.

This wasn’t just the issue with Google’s Gemini-powered AI overviews, as even content creators and publishers have criticised the company for this specific feature.

Samsung Sues Oura To Protect Galaxy Ring

0

As a bold legal manoeuvre, Samsung has initiated a lawsuit against Oura, the smart ring manufacturer, in anticipation of the launch of its own wearable hardware, the Galaxy Ring. This action is a strategic effort by Samsung to circumvent potential intellectual property disputes by Oura that could overshadow the Galaxy Ring’s market entry that’s scheduled for August.

Samsung’s lawsuit emerges as a defensive strategy to protect its upcoming product from patent infringement lawsuits. Oura, known for its stronghold in the smart ring sector, has a reputation for filing lawsuits against smaller competitors in the wearable tech arena by leveraging its patent portfolio, sometimes even before the competition has entered the market.

Samsung’s legal filing highlights a pattern of what it perceives as aggressive intellectual property protection by Oura, which has raised concerns about potential litigation against the Galaxy Ring. As per Samsung, Oura often files patent suits against competitors based on “features common to virtually all smart rings.” The lawsuit specifically mentions features including sensors, electronics, batteries, and scores derived from sensor data.

The Korean smartphone manufacturer also highlighted some cases in which Oura sued rivals like Ultrahuman, Circular, and RingConn even before they entered the US market.

Samsung further cited a CNBC interview with Oura CEO Tom Hale in which he said the company would keep tabs on Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and “take the action that’s appropriate.” Due to these reasons, Samsung thinks it could be a target for Oura’s lawsuits.

The lawsuit further outlines some of the details of the upcoming Galaxy Ring, such as how its design was finalised in mid-May 2024, with mass production set to commence in mid-June. As per the lawsuit, the Galaxy Ring is poised to make its U.S. and Global debut in or around August once it gets unveiled at the rumoured July 10 Galaxy Unpacked event.

The wearable is anticipated to feature a Vitality Score, heart rate sensor, and possibly blood pressure monitoring and aFib detection, subject to regulatory approval. The Indian as well as the US price of the Galaxy Ring was also leaked earlier last month.

The outcome of this lawsuit could have significant implications for the smart ring industry. A ruling in favor of Samsung might not only clear the path for the Galaxy Ring’s launch but also encourage more competition and innovation in the sector.

Samsung Galaxy Watches To Get Free Galaxy AI till 2025

0

Samsung is all set to roll out the new One UI 6 Watch beta later this month, and while that’s great news, the bad news that accompanies it is that the Galaxy AI features the update is touted to bring for Samsung Galaxy Watches will only be free until the end of 2025, post which, the company will likely charge the consumers a fee for using those features.

Samsung made the announcement of the arrival of One UI 6 Watch beta via a newsroom post. Interestingly, the footnote in the post included a point that read, “Samsung account login may be required for certain Samsung AI features. Samsung does not make any promises, assurances or guarantees as to the accuracy, completeness or reliability of the output provided by AI features. Availability of Galaxy AI features may vary by device model. Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy smartphone devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.”

The highlighted line in the point mentioned confirms that after 2025, there’s a high possibility that Samsung will begin charging consumers for the use of AI features on the Galaxy Watches. Some reports in the past have suggested the same, where Samsung has used similar language during the launch of Galaxy AI alongside S24 series.

We reported that the Galaxy AI features could adopt the paid subscription model, but that would be limited to the UK and the US, not India. One of the Samsung executives confirmed to The Mobile Indian in the past that, “Currently, there are no intentions to impose charges on our customers for utilising Galaxy AI services or introduce a subscription plan.” Its unclear whether the situation would remain the same for Galaxy AI features on Samsung’s Galaxy Watches as well.

Meanwhile, Samsung also confirmed via the footnote that some of the AI features, including Energy Score, Wellness Tips and, Aerobic/Anaerobic Threshold Heart Rate Zones, will work with all smartphones and not exclusively with Samsung Galaxy phones. Two of the upcoming Galaxy Watches have been leaked so far, including the Galaxy Watch FE as well as the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Watch FE Renders Show Gigantic Bezels

0

Samsung Galaxy Watch lineup is expected to expand later next month on July 10 at the Galaxy Unpacked event, where not only the Galaxy Watch 7 series is expected to debut, but also an entirely new Fan edition smartwatch, likely to be dubbed as Galaxy Watch FE whose renders have now been leaked online.

Coming from Sudhanshu Ambhore on X, the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE renders show the smartwatch in three colour options, including black, pink and blue. The black one has a black frame, while the pink has a rose gold frame and the blue has a silver frame. One can also observe the slightly more funkier look than the minimal design of the Galaxy Watches, thanks to the blue and orange pieces on the strap of the Galaxy Watch FE.

Galaxy watch FE renders

The straps seem to have a button to unlock the mechanism for removing them, similar to what we saw on the Galaxy Watch 6 series and also the leaked Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra renders. The display on the front is surrounded by thick bezels, resembling those of the Galaxy Watch 4 series from 2021. In fact, some previous reports suggest that the Galaxy Watch FE is a refreshed version of the 2021 Galaxy Watch 4 model.

The Galaxy Watch FE is tipped to be an affordable smartwatch offering in South Korea, the US, and other global markets. Official support pages of a Samsung Galaxy Watch with the model number SM-R861 have gone live on the UK and Latin America Samsung websites. The same model number was previously spotted on the TDRA website with the Galaxy Watch FE moniker.

The appearance of such pages suggests that the launch of the watch is imminent. In related news to the Galaxy Watch, those based on will soon be receiving One UI 6 Watch beta as soon as later this month. As for the new features incorporated in the update, Samsung says it is combining Galaxy with Samsung Health, where new health features will provide you with more comprehensive health insights, along with motivational encouragement to help you improve your daily wellness.

OnePlus 13 to Eliminate Wireless Charging Support After Its Return on OnePlus 12: Leak

0

OnePlus dropped wireless charging support on the OnePlus 11 and faced backlash from consumers, which suggests that users were fond of the feature. After OnePlus reintroduced it in the OnePlus 12, the brand is expected to drop it once again on its next flagship, the OnePlus 13.

The leak comes from tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, as per whom the upcoming OnePlus 13 would lack wireless charging. Additionally, it’ll come packed with a huge 6,000mAh battery (which is bigger than the 5,400mAh cell on OnePlus 12) along with 100W wired charging. It could potentially give the OnePlus 13 a two-day battery backup, a substantial improvement over the OnePlus 12, which already provides an impressive backup.

The OnePlus 11 dropped support for wireless charging over the OnePlus 10 Pro in 2023, and the Chinese brand felt the need to reintroduce the feature in the OnePlus 12. The 12 gets support for 50W wireless charging along with 10W reverse wireless charging.

Read More: Will OnePlus’ Trend Of Making Errors Ever Come To An End?

Such wireless charging speeds are far better than some other flagships from Samsung or Apple that have sub-20W speeds, which take their phones hours to charge via the wireless method. On the other hand, the OnePlus 12 takes slightly below an hour to charge from 0 to 100% if charged at max speeds, and that’s a respectable amount of time. Note that even OnePlus’ latest foldable, the OnePlus Open, also doesn’t have support for wireless charging, while foldables from Vivo, Samsung and Honor employ the feature.

With OnePlus 13 lacking support for wireless charging, it would be interesting to see whether OnePlus is able to compensate for this by providing a significantly larger battery than its predecessors and, if true, the biggest battery cell ever in a OnePlus device.

Meanwhile, DCS also suggests that the OnePlus 13 will have a “straight screen” with a “micro-curved glass cover design.” This contradicts previous leaks, which suggested the screen would be curved on all four sides. Instead, the new leak says that the screen wouldn’t be curved but flat, while the glass covering it would be slightly curved on all four edges, resulting in an overall immersive experience.
