Microsoft Bing Unveils Redesigned Search Results Powered by AI

0

Microsoft Bing has announced a freshly redesigned experience for those who use the search engine, where search results powered by will now be shown alongside the traditional results. These AI-powered search results are similar to Google’s AI overviews which faced a lot of heat a while back due to inaccuracies and publisher backlash.

Microsoft announced the change via a blog post, where it wrote that it’s “excited to share an early view of our new generative search experience which is currently shipping to a small percentage of user queries.” Bing is now combining the power of generative AI and large language models (LLMs) with the search results page, where Bing’s generative search creates a bespoke and dynamic response to a user’s query.

Bing also gave an example showing how the new search results will leverage AI. For instance, if a user searches “What is a spaghetti western?” Bing shows an AI-generated experience that dives into the film subgenre, including its history and origins, top examples and more.

The information shown is easily comprehensible and contains links and sources that show where it came from allowing the user to dive deeper. The regular search results continue to be prominently displayed on the page towards the right side of the AI-powered results.

“This new experience combines the foundation of Bing’s search results with the power of large and small language models (LLMs and SLMs),” said Microsoft. It understands the search query, reviews millions of sources of information, dynamically matches content, and generates search results in a new AI-generated layout to fulfil the intent of the user’s query more effectively.

Furthermore, Microsoft Bing says that it is continuing to look closely at how generative AI search results impacts traffic to publishers. “Early data indicates that this experience maintains the number of clicks to websites and supports a healthy web ecosystem. The generative search experience is designed with this in mind, including retaining traditional search results and increasing the number of clickable links, like the references in the results,” added Microsoft. The company also worked on refining the accuracy of these AI search results in Bing.

YouTube Testing Replacing Mini Player With Picture-in-Picture Window

0

YouTube is constantly updated with new improvements, and we have spotted the latest one where the Mini Player has been scrapped altogether within the YouTube app. In addition, the mini player has been replaced by a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) window which appears whenever you minimise a video.

The Mobile Indian discovered this change in the latest YouTube Beta app with version 19.29.35. Previously, when swiping down on a video in portrait mode, the video would minimise in a form of mini player while being played in the background as explore the YouTube app. The app then showed the Play/Pause button and the “cross” button to close the mini player as shown in the screenshot below.

Youtube mini player replaced by PiP
New (left), Old UI with Mini Player (right)

With the change implemented, once you drag down on the video, it goes into the PiP window and is played in the background. In addition, the play/pause button also disappears, and appears only when you tap on the video. The other two buttons you get are the ones which allow you to maximise the window size to the full-screen player and close it with the “cross.”

You can also resize this window with a pinch out gesture. Once resized to a bigger size, there are two more buttons that appear within the player allowing you to quickly skip 10 seconds or go backwards 10 seconds.

The PiP window within the YouTube app is separate from the one which activates when you go to the home screen via the gesture or navigation buttons of your smartphone.

We have spotted the change on two of our devices running the mentioned version of the YouTube Beta app. The same change hasn’t been implemented in the stable version of the app, as tested by us on two other devices.

We can also confirm that the change isn’t a part of any experiments that are made available to try by the streaming service. Because this isn’t an experiment, we think that YouTube will soon bring the change to the stable version of the app as well.

Prime Video is Getting a Fresh New Look Alongside AI Recommendations: All Details

Amazon has announced a new design and look for its Prime Video along with new features such as AI-based recommendations. The new user experience, according to Prime Video, is bringing clarity and simplicity back to streaming. In addition, you’ll be able to navigate across Prime Video’s app with ease.

The new user experience updates of Prime Video have begun rolling out globally, and will become available to all customers in the coming weeks.

Prime Video Gets Generative AI-Powered Recomendations

Prime Video’s new generative recommendations help you find content that matches your tastes, so you can “watch more and browse less.” It also made it easier to spot movies and series included with your Prime membership, discover new blockbusters to rent, and manage your add-on subscriptions.

To power this experience, Prime Video uses Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed AWS service for building and scaling generative AI applications with foundational models, to generate personalized recommendations for customers.

New User Experience Updates

You can now browse, sign up for, and manage your active add-on subscriptions directly from the navigation bar. In India, explore over 20 add-on subscriptions by selecting “Subscriptions.” Here, you’ll find new options uniquely recommended based on your preferences, previous rentals, and viewing history. Plus, the subscriptions section showcases deals from third-party services, all in one place.

Prime video new homepage

As a part of the new look, when you open Prime Video, you’ll find a revamped navigation bar featuring dedicated sections such as “Home,” “Movies,” “TV Shows,” and “Live TV.” This update also includes a spot for your active Prime Video Channels add-on subscriptions, streamlining your content browsing experience.

A new “Prime” destination will also be available in the navigation bar, which allows you to browse movies, TV shows available at no additional cost with a Prime membership. Beneath the navigation bar, the hero rotator highlights subscription-based content, rental options, and various promotions, including Prime member deals. You can directly play, rent, or subscribe to watch, making it simple to start enjoying your favorite titles.

Next up, in addition to the AI-powered recommendations we talked about above, you’ll be able to browse content by taste and other categories such as “Top 10 in India”. And now, it will be easier to see what is included with a Prime membership and what you may need to pay extra for.

Prime and add-on subscription logos, like Lionsgate Play or Crunchyroll, will appear on the hero and title cards of a movie or TV show to help inform you about which subscription the content is coming from. If a title requires additional payment, a yellow shopping bag will be visible. Plus, Prime Video will be making use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to simplify the synopses for TV shows and movies, so you can quickly glance at a title description, rather than having to scroll to decide if it is something you’d want to watch.

Finally, new animations, smooth page transitions and zoom effects are also a part of the enhancements introduced in the update. When using a living room device, video content will play on the hero rotator as you determine what to watch. And on the “Live TV” destination, recommended 24/7 stations will automatically start playing. They will continue to do so as you transition into full screen playback, or exit to browse other stations.

Prime Video has optimised the experience across all devices, including older models.
