Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch 7 1st Impression: Changing Times

0

Samsung has launched two new smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Alongside the smartwatches, they have also released the Z Fold 6 and the Z Flip 6. The Galaxy Watch 7 comes with several improvements compared to the previous generation, while the Galaxy Watch Ultra is a completely new product, known for its durability, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Apple Watch Ultra.

Galaxy Watch 7

The new Galaxy Watch 7 retains the same design as its predecessors, while its strap gets redesigned with ripples all over it. The silicone strap also has hints of orange and blue, similar to what we saw with the Galaxy Watch FE last month. The bezels seem similar to that of the Galaxy Watch 6. Galaxy Watch 7 will be available in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm. Galaxy Watch 7 40mm is available in Green and Cream, while Galaxy Watch 7 44mm is available in Green and Silver.

During our initial usage time with the watch, it seemed smooth in terms of performance and responsiveness. Further, it also felt quite comfortable on the hand. Rather than hardware changes, Samsung has focused more on internal changes and software features. For instance, the Galaxy Watch 7 is the first Galaxy smartwatch to feature a dual-frequency system, which can track locations more precisely even in dense urban environments.

It packs a 3nm Exynos W1000 chip, which Samsung claims has three times faster CPU and 30% improved power efficiency of application processor. It runs on One 6 Watch based on Wear 5.0. There’s 2GB of and 32GB of storage. In addition, it gets Double Pinch Gestures to control the watch in certain scenarios, similar to what we saw with the latest Apple Watch a few months back.

In addition to the new advanced AI algorithm for sleep analysis, Galaxy Watch 7 offers the De Novo FDA-authorized Sleep Apnea feature, providing a simple, proactive tool to check potential signs of sleep apnea.

One can receive real-time readings and alerts for abnormally high or low heart rates with Heart Rate monitoring, detect irregular heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib) with IHRN (Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification), and get a deeper understanding of their heart health with Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring.

The watch also gets an enhanced BioActive Sensor, enabling increased accuracy and empowering you to better understand yourself with comprehensive readings. For the first time, Galaxy Watch7 allows you to conveniently track advanced glycation end products (AGEs) right from your wrist with an AGEs Index.

Galaxy Watch Ultra

Galaxy watch ultra first impressions

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is the newest rugged smartwatch from Samsung. It replaces the Galaxy Watch Classic model. While it doesn’t get the rotatable and functional bezel, it has a rather unique design where a circular display is fitted inside a squircle frame. While we wore it for a short period of time, it felt heavier than the regular Galaxy Watch 7, alongside being thicker.

Same as the Watch 7, it gets a strap that has a rippled design. The watch has a Quick button on the right side, sitting between the two regular buttons. While it may look a small crown, its not functional for rotation, but only for pressing. The watch is available in a single 47mm dial size, while the frame is made up of a Titanium Grade 4 frame and can be submerged in up to 100 m of seawater.

Additionally, Galaxy Watch Ultra operates at a wider range of altitudes, from 500 meters below sea level to 9,000 meters high, to track advanced fitness experiences like swimming in the ocean and cycling in extreme environments. The new Functional Threshold Power (FTP) for cycling accurately measures maximum cycling power in just 4 minutes with AI-powered FTP metrics to unlock full potential based on indicators unique to you.

Galaxy Watch Ultra also provides an advanced Personalized HR Zone, so you can work out at optimal intensity levels based on your physical capabilities. It also gets the energy score feature to show you an estimated amount of energy your body has left. The display has a peak brightness of up to 3000 nits. Because we were in indoor lighting, we couldn’t test it, but by the looks of it, the display itself looked impressive.

Samsung claims that the Galaxy Watch Ultra has the longest battery life within the Galaxy Watch line-up, offering up to 100 hours of Power Saving and 48 hours of Exercise Power Saving. The watch’s battery capacity is 590mAh. The Galaxy Watch Ultra also runs on 5, gets 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, wireless charging, and more.

It packs like the Samsung BioActive Sensor (Optical Bio-signal sensor+ Electrical Heart Signal + Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis), Temperature Sensor, Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, and Light Sensor. The watch is 10ATM and certified, and it has a MIL-STD-810H certification.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 First Impression: What’s New?

0

Samsung has introduced the next generation of foldables in its Z Fold lineup with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The new foldable has subtle redesigned elements compared to the last three generations and features an improved hinge, more powerful hardware, and new features. Here are our first impressions of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is available in three models including 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB, and 12GB + 1TB, priced at Rs 1,64,999, Rs 1,76,999, and Rs 2,00,999, respectively. The device will go on sale via Samsung’s website, Amazon, Flipkart, and other leading offline and online retailers. It can be availed in colours like Silver Shadow, Navy, and Pink. The pre-orders for the device are now live.

Customers pre-ordering the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will receive a cashback of Rs 8000 on HDFC Bank cards along with 9 months no-cost bank or an Upgrade Bonus of Rs 8,000 along with upto 9 months of no cost EMI.

Existing Samsung flagship smartphone customers can choose to avail an upgrade bonus of Rs 15,000. All customers who pre order Galaxy Z Fold 6 will get Galaxy Z Assurance wherein they will get an industry-first two screen/parts replacements at Rs 999.

Z fold 6 display

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes with a major redesign over its predecessors. The Fold 6 now has a flatter frame made up of Samsung’s improved Armor Aluminium. The frame gets a matte finish, departing from the glossy one on the Flip 5. The cover display is now also slightly bigger with a minor change in the aspect ratio as well.

Based on our brief usage time with it, we’d say that it’s not a major difference over the Fold 5 or the Fold 4, but making it a little wider allows for better fitting of the on-screen content. The corners are now sharper than before, notably curved on the Fold 3, Fold 4, and Fold 5. As for the hinge, it feels fluid and can hold one-half of the device at any angle.

The display, both the cover and the main one, looked good at first glance. They were sharp, vivid, and were impressively responsive. As for the crease, we couldn’t notice any changes to make it less noticeable.

Z fold 6 sides

Aside from the hardware, Samsung has also refined the software experience with One 6.1.1. It gets a newly embedded transcript feature that enables transcription, translation and summarizing of voice recordings directly in Notes. Texts in PDF files can be translated and overlaid through the PDF overlay translation feature in Notes – and it even supports text in images and graphs.

Galaxy z fold 6 first impressions

A newly added Composer from Samsung Keyboard generates suggested text based on simple keywords for email and supported social media apps. For social media in particular, the Composer creates text that reflects your tone by analyzing previous posts.

The S Pen experience has also been improved, thanks to Galaxy AI. An all-new Sketch to Image feature allows you to create more sophisticated art pieces by generating image options when you simply sketch or draw on the photos in the Gallery or Note screen.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers an upgraded gaming experience as well. It packs a 1.6x larger vapour chamber for the ability to game for longer. Further, it also supports Ray Tracing. Other AI features on the Fold 6 include an AI-powered ProVisual Engine, Live Translate, Portrait Studio, and more.

The battery and camera on the Fold 6 remain the same as those on the Fold 5. We’ll explore these details in the full review, so stay tuned.

Nu Republic Cyberstud Spin TWS Review: Did It Hit The Right Note?

Nu Republic Cyberstud Spin earbuds are the latest pair of buds from the Indian audio brand. Their USP? The fidget spinner case houses the earbuds and is the brand’s first in India. However, is it practical and useful, or is it a gimmick? We’ll find that out in our review of the Cyberstud Spin TWS earbuds by Nu Republic.

Design & Comfort

Starting with the case itself, the Cyberstud Spin is definitely a standout product in this category compared to its competitors, who are basically just changing the shapes and colours of their cases with each release. The Cyberstud Spin’s case, apart from serving as the charging case for the buds, also acts as a fidget spinner, which picked up a trend a few years back.

A fidget spinner is essentially a toy that, interestingly, helps relieve your stress and anxiety when you spin it. Engineering-wise, we’d say Nu Republic did a decent job making the case where it could fit a battery along with a USB-C port and designed it as a fidget spinner.

Cyberstud spin TWS

The spinner itself is quite smooth and spins independently for a while if you keep it on a hard surface. However, the case has its issues as well. Because the case’s magnets aren’t quite strong and the locks (called metal gliders) that keep the buds in place are also loose, the buds often flew away when I tried to spin it with intensity when they were in the case itself, as the locks would open while it spun.

Fidget spinner Cyberstud spin review

It would be better if you used the spinner when the buds were out of it; otherwise, you may easily lose one of them if you are in a public place. There’s also a small speaker in the case that plays a sound when you open and close the case, and I feel that’s a totally unnecessary feature to implement and the most annoying feature these buds have. Also, you cannot even disable this sound.

The build material is all plastic, both the buds and the case, except for metal gliders. There’s also a blue light in the middle of the case that lights up when the buds or the case are charging, which gives it a beautiful look when you spin the case while it’s on.

The buds have a translucent look and a good shape. They fit quite well in my ear and didn’t fall off even during intense activities such as running. In addition, they created a good seal when in the ear to block outside noise. Because they are made of plastic, they are also considerably lightweight. Nu Republic claims the buds are sweat—and splash-resistant.

While the overall design of the earbuds and the case are plausible, I am not sure of the utility they serve and the build quality of the case. The locks have already become loose after two weeks of use, and they can’t hold the buds in place either, which actually defeats the purpose of the fidget spinner, as I’ll always have to take out the buds to use it.

Sound and Call quality

The buds pack 13mm neodymium drivers and have X-Bass technology. They support environmental noise cancellation, sport v5.3, game, and music modes, and have 40ms low-latency in the former. You also get touch controls to adjust playback.

Cyberstud spin tws

The sound quality of the Nu Republic Cyberstud Spin TWS is average at best compared with the competition. The mid-frequencies overpower the bass, and while the bass does have some kick to it, it still isn’t the best, considering the Rs 2,499 price tag. In fact, the CMF Buds, which are priced at Rs 2,299, have a bass that’s not only stronger but also has more depth. The vocals sound clear, and the buds get adequately loud as well.

Cyberstud spin review

However, if I had to choose between the audio quality of the CMF Buds and the Cyberstud Spin, I would choose the former any day. They not only have a much balanced sound signature but also possess better build quality. Moreover, Cyberstud Spin does not offer support to tune the audio signature, which is again something significant that the CMF Buds offer. If that wasn’t enough, the CMF Buds also offer an impressive ANC performance, while the Cyberstud Spin lacks it entirely.

The touch controls work as they should. As for the connection experience, there were some breaks in audio at times. The minimal is impressive when playing games.

The call quality of these buds is also disappointing. While they pick up the user’s voice without any issues when indoors, they struggle to pick up the user’s voice when outdoors. The wearer’s voice echoes, and the background noise cancellation is disappointing.

As for the battery life, Nu Republic claims the buds can last up to 70 hours when paired with the case. The buds can easily last a few hours on a single charge, and while we weren’t able to reach the 70-hour mark with our usage, we got a little closer to it.

Google’s Gemini Live Could Work in the Background While You Multitask on Your Phone

0

Google, earlier this May, showcased an upcoming feature for its Gemini model called Gemini Live. This feature allows you to have a two-way conversation with Gemini so you could ask it questions and get answers in real-time. A new report suggests that Gemini Live could further work in the background as well, so it can make your conversations more natural.

In a Google with version 15.27 (beta) decompiled by 9to5Google, the publication discovered strings called “background_mode” that will let you “continue [Gemini] Live chats while using other apps or while your screen is locked.” The report adds that “for the most part,” Google Assistant and Gemini will stop functioning once their is shut off.

By Allowing Gemini Live to accept input and reply in the background, as you multitask on your device, Google may be aiming to provide users with a more immersive and natural experience, as the report notes.

Aside from this, Google will also be increasing the capabilities of Gemini to output more information when the device is locked. As of now, allowing the feature enables the user to perform some basic tasks, such as setting alarms or reminders.

With the updated version, Gemini on lock screen and “extensions on lock screen” will allow the user to get “answers to general questions and more.” In the screenshots shared in the report, one can note that users will be offered with options including Messages, Workspace, and Home Automation. This suggests that users will be able to perform tasks related to these extensions.

Lastly, an option named “Spoken message notifications” will also be made available where you can turn it on to have Gemini “read your messages to you.”

Xbox App Now Available For Amazon Fire TV Devices

0

Amazon has announced late last month that in July, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to access and play hundreds of cloud-enabled games directly through the Xbox app on select Fire TV devices without any console. It seems like the app has now begun rolling out to Amazon’s Fire TV devices.

The Xbox app will be available only on the Fire TV Max (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) in the initial stage (via The Verge) and will be identical to the Xbox app that’s available on Samsung’s recent TVs and monitors. Aside from a compatible Fire TV Stick, players will need a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to stream Xbox games.

This integration of Xbox app in Fire TV devices brings the vast Xbox Game Pass Ultimate game library to your TV. Further, Microsoft is confirmed to be working on allowing Xbox Cloud Gaming to stream a user’s entire Xbox library, and not just titles that are included in the Game Pass.

One of the biggest benefits of cloud gaming is the ability to play premium games without needing a console. As long as you have a solid internet connection, your compatible Fire TV Stick, and a compatible controller, you can take your Xbox Game Pass games and saved game progress with you.

HMD Drops “Arrow” Branding for Debut Smartphone in India, Renames it to HMD Crest

0

HMD announced about a month ago that it will be introducing the first smartphone in India under its own brand, dubbed HMD Arrow. However, due to legal reasons, it seems like the brand can’t go further with the model name “Arrow,” due to which it has renamed the device to HMD Crest.

“We were thrilled by your incredible response to the #HMDNameOurFirstSmartphone contest! While we selected “Arrow” as the name for India’s first HMD smartphone, legal reasons unfortunately prevented us from using it. Rest assured, the contest entries are still valid, and we will be announcing five winners who will receive their well-deserved prizes,” said HMD in a post on X.

Then it announced the name of the first HMD smartphone in India to be “HMD Crest.” A couple of months back, we reported that HMD Arrow isn’t a mere rebrand of the HMD Pulse smartphone that debuted globally and in the US (with model name HMD Vibe) but instead, it’s a completely new handset. “HMD Arrow will have a completely new design, more powerful specs, different processor, 5G connectivity, and camera specs,” one of the sources close to the development of the device told The Mobile Indian.

We can safely assume that while Arrow has been renamed to Crest, other specifications it possesses should remain the same. The brand has been simultaneously working on multiple smartphones and even a couple of tablets which we’ll the see the launch of, in the upcoming months.

A recent leak shed light on the specs of HMD Nighthawk. According to the leak, the HMD Nighthawk will sport a 6.67-inch Rigid OLED panel which will have an FHD+ resolution and a Refresh Rate of 120Hz.

The handset will draw power from the Unisoc T750 5G processor, coupled with 8GB of RAMand two storage options such as 128GB and 256GB. For optics, there will be dual cameras on the back, including a 108MP primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation support, along with an additional 8MP lens which could be an ultra-wide angle sensor. The device may be able to shoot videos in up to 4K resolution running at 30 fps.
