Perplexity AI Assistant Launched on Android

0

Perplexity has announced the launch of the Perplexity Assistant on Android. Perplexity says that the Assistant uses reasoning, search, and apps to help a user with daily tasks. Perplexity Assistant, now available for Android devices through the Perplexity app, is capable of performing “multi-app actions,” according to the company. These actions include tasks such as hailing a ride or searching for a song.

Perplexity Assistant has access to the web, enabling it to perform tasks such as finding the correct date and time for an event and creating a calendar entry, according to Perplexity. It is also multimodal, utilizing your phone’s camera to answer questions about your surroundings or the content on your screen.

Additionally, the assistant maintains context across actions. For instance, it can research local restaurants and automatically reserve a table, streamlining tasks seamlessly, the company explains.

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas acknowledged in a series of posts on X that certain Perplexity Assistant actions “might not always work” but assured users that the company is working to address these issues in the coming months. The company says that Perplexity AI Assistant will be free for now for Perplexity users in 15 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Hindi.

Other major players in the mobile assistant field, such as Google, are also going all in with their AI assistants. Google recently unveiled a load of new features for Gemini on Android which are actually beneficial for users considering Gemini is more tightly integrated within the Android operating system allowing it to perform actions other assistants may not be able to.

One of the latest features of Gemini is that it is now accessible on your Samsung devices with a simple press of the side button. While you still get the ability to access it through a corner swipe, this is an additional way to invoke Gemini on Samsung devices.

Samsung Unveils Ambient Sensing Technology for SmartThings

0

Samsung has unveiled new technology at the Galaxy Unpacked event where it launched the Galaxy S25 series. The new technologies are backed by Samsung’s vision of “AI for All.” The company aims to use the Ambient Sensing Technology for SmartThings to simplify and enhance everyday life.

“The mission of SmartThings has always been to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and ease of use for consumers.  Our core tenets are security, ease of use, saving time and money, and care for your family. We understand that every household is unique, which is why we are introducing Home AI—a feature that gathers insights from everyday life to create personalized experiences to fit your needs, transforming your home into a smarter, more efficient space,” said the company in a SmartThings blog post.

With Ambient Sensing Technology for SmartThings, the company plans to use advanced sensor technology, like motion and sound sensor devices in your home, to recognize you and understand your daily activities like cooking, exercising, sleeping, etc. so your home can create the perfect environment for you.

This ambient sensing technology would enable your home to understand you and your surroundings to help you live a better life. It collects, integrates, and analyzes diverse data and securely stores it on your local home network. These are a few examples of what this new technology can do :

  • Health Insight and Lifestyle Recommendations: SmartThings will provide real-time feedback to help you stay healthy. Been sitting too long? Expect a gentle reminder to get up and move.
  • Human Detection and Activity Monitoring: SmartThings uses its to detect activities like push-ups, sleeping, or even working at your desk. It can recommend better routines for your life, and build the best environment for the activity.

SmartThings is designed to elevate your smart home experience by intuitively adapting to your daily routines. For instance, during a workout, it can identify the type of exercise you’re performing, provide guidance on your form, and recommend the ideal duration for optimal results.

Post-workout, SmartThings leverages sound-sensing devices like the Music Frame to detect the noise of hair drying. This triggers the robot vacuum to clean up any fallen strands, ensuring a tidy space effortlessly.

After a long day, unwinding in your favorite chair becomes even more seamless. As you approach, SmartThings recognizes your presence and takes care of the details—dimming the lights, switching on your reading lamp, and setting the room to your preferred temperature for maximum comfort.

The Ambient Sensing technology for SmartThings extends to even the smallest household moments. For example, it can detect when your miniature pinscher jumps onto the couch, automatically activating the air purifier to clear allergens and maintain a healthy environment.

Generative AI in Map View

Further, SmartThings will be equipped with Gen AI technology that enables a deeper understanding of your home’s unique layout and environment adding more personalization to your Map View. The new features this technology enables include:

  • Enhanced User Experience: This personalized map allows for more intuitive navigation and interaction within your smart home. For example, the system might adjust your lighting or temperature settings based on your proximity to certain areas or objects.
  • Personalized Map View: You will be able to use your phone camera to capture images of objects like chairs, and other elements in your space so your Map View can match your style and space.

The Ambient Sensing Technology for SmartThings and Generative AI in Map View are planned to rollout throughout 2025 and 2026 and will be integrated in most Samsung products like its Televisions, Refrigerators, and more.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Design Unveiled

0

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge design at the Galaxy S25 series launch event. The Galaxy S25 Edge is potentially the Galaxy S25 Slim that has been in the rumour mill for a while now. However, the design showcased by Samsung is completely different from the Galaxy S25 Slim design that was leaked earlier this month.

On the sidelines of the Galaxy S25 series launch event, Samsung showcased the Galaxy S25 Edge design but didn’t let the visitors use the device itself. By the looks of it, the device appears to be extremely slim, which will likely be its main selling point. Slimness was also supposed to be Galaxy S25 Slim’s USP, hinting that the S25 Edge is indeed the S25 Slim.

The back of the device has dual rear cameras in a protruded camera island. Below the two cutouts sits the flash. The buttons reside on the right spine and one can also notice the lines, suggesting the device will have an aluminium frame. The bottom side will likely have the mic, speaker grille, and a USB-C port. The front of the device appears to have quite thin bezels as well.

Samsung didn’t let anyone experience the device but merely gave a first look at what is to come. It is unclear when the device will launch, but it should be sometime later this year. Rumours suggested that the Galaxy S25 Slim will launch in May, so it is likely that Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S25 Edge during the same timeline.

Leaks said that the S25 Slim will also have the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy under the hood. The camera setup on the rear includes a 200MP HP5 primary camera, a 50MP JN5 ultra-wide angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5X optical zoom as per leaks, but considering the S25 Edge only has dual rear cameras, we may not see the telephoto lens. There’s up to 12GB RAM and the device will run on Android 15-based One UI 7 as per a report. Further, considering it’s a slim device, the device may sport a battery that’s about the size of the S25 or lesser than the S25+.

Here we have compiled a list of the top five cheapest countries to buy the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Vs OnePlus 13: Which Flagship Should You Opt For?

0

Before the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, we suspected that the OnePlus 13 would be a major threat to Samsung’s Ultra flagship as it offers nearly the same specifications but at a much cheaper price point. Now that the Galaxy S25 Ultra has launched and the official specifications are out, do we feel the same or is the S25 Ultra coming out to be a better device? Let’s have a look.

Display

The OnePlus 13 5G sports a 6.82-inch QHD+ (3168 x 1440 pixels) 120Hz 3D AMOLED LTPO display. Furthermore, there is support for 4500 nits of peak brightness, adaptive refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, 93.5% screen-to-body ratio, Dolby Vision support, and Crystal Shield ultra-ceramic glass protection.

OnePlus 13 launched

The display on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x panel with dynamic Refresh Rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, 240Hz touch sampling rate, Eye comfort shield, and up to 2600 nits of peak brightness. Further, there’s an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Corning Gorilla Armor 2 protects this panel.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

While both these panels offer the same and refresh rate, they are calibrated differently with different approaches towards the tuning of the panel. While the panel on the OnePlus 13 is brighter, the S25 Ultra sports Corning Gorilla Armor 2 that provides a unique anti-reflective finish which makes a major difference in real world use, as we noticed on the S24 Ultra. The Gorilla Armor 2 combines Corning’s glass-ceramic with a anti-reflective surface treatment, helping to ensure advanced drop protection alongside anti-reflection surface treatment and scratch resistance.

Overall, we’d give them a draw if it comes to display, as both of them sport quite capable panels suitable for different types of users.

Processor & Software

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the OnePlus 13 are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite but Samsung has tuned the chipset for its own device for slightly better performance which would be hardly noticeable in real world use. They have LPDDR5x and 4.0 storage but with OnePlus 13, you get more RAM options while the S25 Ultra sticks to 12GB RAM in all its models.

If you want sheer raw performance, then the OnePlus 13 offers more RAM that will help those who are into multitasking. While the S25 Ultra could also handle the same with ease, the OnePlus 13 would obviously perform better in keeping more apps in memory due to its superior hardware capabilities.

As for software, OxygenOS 15 on OnePlus 13 has greatly improved in terms of performance and features, and so has One 7 on Galaxy S25 Ultra. They both have their plus and minus points and are a subjective matter as each user prefers a different design, feel, and set of features in terms of software. While the OnePlus 13 will receive 5 OS updates and 6 years of security patches, Samsung promises 7 years of both, which clearly makes it the better option in long term. For those who want a larger set of AI features as well, One UI 7 is also better at that compared to OxygenOS.

Cameras & Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra gets a quad-camera setup at the rear, including a 200 MP primary wide camera with dual pixel AF, OIS, f/1.7 aperture, paired with a 50MP ultra-wide camera with 120-degree FoV, f/1.9 aperture, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x Optical Zoom support, OIS, f/3.4 Aperture and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom support, OIS and f/2.4 aperture. In addition, there’s a 12MP front sensor with an f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calls.

The OnePlus handset has a triple camera setup at the rear including a 50MP f/1.6 Sony LYT-808 primary sensor with two-axis OIS, a 50MP f/2.0 Samsung JN5 ultra-wide angle sensor, and a 50MP f/2.6 Sony LYT-600 periscope telephoto camera with OIS, 3x Optical Zoom support and 120x Digital Zoomsupport. On the front, there is a 32MP f/2.4 Sony IMX615 sensor for selfies and video calls.

We haven’t used the devices side-by-side to compare the results in real world situations. Theoretically, the Samsung handset would perform better in taking zoomed-in shots due to the extra telephoto sensor but again, we can’t confirm the same unless we use them both. On paper, both the devices’ camera setup are capable and flagship-level.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra packs a 5000mAh battery which supports 45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging as well. The OnePlus 13 is backed by a 6000mAh battery that supports 100W SuperVOOC charging, 50W wireless charging with magnetic charging support, 10W reverse wireless charging and 5W reverse wired charging.

Clearly, the OnePlus 13 is better pick if you want to have a bigger battery. Not only that, but the battery is made of the latest silicon carbon technology and it also supports faster wired and wireless charging compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Verdict

The OnePlus 13 and the Galaxy S25 Ultra are both versatile flagships. However, if you are short on budget and want a flagship experience where sheer raw performance paired with an overall decent experience is what you are looking for, the OnePlus 13 is a far superior pick, starting at Rs 69,999 for the base 12GB + 256GB model, Rs 76,999 for the 16GB + 512GB trim, and Rs 89,999 for the 24GB + 1TB version.

All these models cost less than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which only starts at Rs 1,29,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model, and costs Rs 1,41,999 for the 12GB + 512GB trim, and Rs 1,65,999 for the 12GB + 1TB trim.

However, if you are looking for the Samsung flagship experience with software that can last for years, S-Pen support, and don’t have any budget restrictions, then the S25 Ultra might suit you better.

Google Announces New Gemini Features, Circle to Search Updates, and More

0

Samsung just released the Galaxy S25 series and Google didn’t miss the opportunity to pack in some of its new Gemini features, Circle to Search updates, and more within the Galaxy S25 series. Here are all the new Gemini features and everything else Google has announced alongside the Galaxy S25 series launch.

New Ways to Launch Gemini, New Extensions for Samsung Devices

One of the latest features of Gemini is that it is now accessible on your Samsung devices with a simple press of the side button. While you still get the ability to access it through a corner swipe, this is an additional way to invoke Gemini on Samsung devices.

Further, in addition to Google Maps, YouTube, Google Messages, Spotify and more, Google is introducing new Gemini Extensions for Samsung Reminder, Samsung Calendar, Samsung Notes and Samsung Clock. This means you can ask Gemini to tell you about an upcoming appointment, save a note or set a reminder on your Samsung device to take advantage of these extensions.

In a single prompt, you can now ask Gemini to take multiple actions across apps and services for tighter integration within One UI. For example, if you’re looking for outdoor restaurants nearby and want to share the options with a friend, Gemini can connect to Google Maps to find the perfect spots and draft a ready-to-send text via Google Messages.

Making Gemini Live More Multimodal, Samsung Now Bar Capabilities

And for people who are blind or have low vision, TalkBack 15 on Galaxy S25 devices will now be compatible with braille displays that use HID, a popular way to connect to Bluetooth devices. Following feedback from the community, this compatibility will ensure people can use their braille displays without additional steps, making Galaxy S25 devices even more accessible. In the coming weeks, TalkBack on Galaxy S25 devices will also provide more detailed image descriptions, powered by Gemini models.

Galaxy Watch for Kids Experience

Finally, with Google Family Link, parents can use their phone to set up and manage Galaxy Watch7 smartwatches with a Galaxy Watch for Kids experience. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: What Has Changed Over Galaxy S24 Ultra?

0

Samsung has announced the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, its latest Ultra flagship that packs the best hardware the Korean manufacturer has to offer. But how does it stack up against the brand’s last year’s flagship — Galaxy S24 Ultra? Is it a meaningful upgrade over its predecessor and does it justify the increased price tag? We’ll find out here.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy S24 Ultra are identical in some areas but one area where they differ the most is design. From S23 Ultra to S24 Ultra, the design didn’t change much but with S25 Ultra, Samsung has decided to finally ditch the sharp corners, thereby also leaving the Note form factor behind. However, that doesn’t mean that Samsung is giving up on the S-Pen, as it still resides on the bottom side of the device.

The rounded corners offer a slightly better in-hand feel as it doesn’t hurt your palm when holding with one hand. While the camera layout remains identical to S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra, the front display is completely flat now, same as the frame. This results in a uniformity when compared to the Plus and vanilla models in the S25 lineup. So if design plays a major role on your list of changes a successor should have, Samsung has tried to match up to your expectations.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Review

Specs-wise, the display on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra seems to have gone up to 6.9-inch from 6.8-inch in S24 Ultra which is a minor difference. Rest of the specs seem identical, including a QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x LTPO panel with dynamic Refresh Rate from 1Hz till 120Hz, 240Hz touch sampling rate, Eye comfort shield, and up to 2600 nits of peak brightness. Further, there’s an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Corning Gorilla Armor protects this panel.

The is the major upgrade here in S25 Ultra, packing the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Furthermore, you now get 16GB in top models which is another upgrade people would expect from a flagship, while storage options remain the same as before. What also remains identical is the 5000mAh battery with 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging, which is kind of disappointing considering most other flagships now have a high density silicon-carbon cell.

As for cameras, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra packs the same as S24 Ultra, except for the ultra-wide angle sensor which has been upgraded from a 12MP sensor to a 50MP sensor. However, we can’t comment on whether it’s an upgrade in real world results as we haven’t used the device as of now.

Further, Samsung has removed the functionality from the S-Pen in S25 Ultra which was present in the S24 Ultra as well as the S23 Ultra. This feature enabled additional features like the S-Pen button acting as a shutter button when out of the phone so you could remotely click a shot. While it may not be a deal breaker for many, it’s still counted as a feature Samsung removed.

To sum up, the S25 Ultra brings a refreshed design, more RAM, a more powerful chipset, a new ultra-wide angle camera, and that’s about it. While these are welcome upgrades and changes, we feel Samsung could have done better, especially in the battery area where the device should have been equipped with a larger cell and much faster wired charging. Moreover, Samsung is still using the same primary camera as the S23 Ultra which is two generations old at this point. We hope Samsung will address these concerns in the next iteration of the Ultra phone but for now, these are the upgrades you’ll have to make do with.

0
