DeepSeek R1: The Game-Changing AI Model Everyone’s Talking About

0

DeepSeek R1 is an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) model developed by the Chinese startup DeepSeek, which emerged from a hedge fund. Launched in January 2025, DeepSeek R1 has garnered significant attention for its performance and open-source approach, positioning it as a formidable competitor to established AI models like OpenAI’s o1.

Development and Training

DeepSeek R1 was developed using pure reinforcement learning, a method that allows the model to learn and improve without relying on supervised data. This approach is reminiscent of techniques used in models like Google DeepMind’s AlphaZero. By employing this strategy, DeepSeek R1 has achieved advanced capabilities in mathematics, coding, and reasoning tasks.

In evaluations, DeepSeek R1 has demonstrated performance comparable to OpenAI’s o1 model across various tasks, including mathematical problem-solving, coding, and natural language reasoning. Notably, it achieved a 97% accuracy rate in solving mathematical problems and outperformed 96% of humans in programming tests.

Where is it Available?

The company’s AI is available for download through Apple’s App Store and the Google as well. The service is completely free to use and not only that, but it has also quickly become the top downloaded app on Apple’s store, surpassing even OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It has also become the top-rated free application in the US on Apple’s app store.

Open-Source Commitment

A distinguishing feature of DeepSeek R1 is its commitment to open-source principles. The model is fully open-sourced under the MIT license, allowing researchers and developers to access, modify, and build upon its codebase. This transparency contrasts with the nature of many Western AI models and has been praised within the tech community.

The release of DeepSeek R1 has had significant economic implications. Its development reportedly required less computing power and was achieved at a fraction of the cost compared to models like OpenAI’s o1. This efficiency has to disruptions in the stock market, with notable declines in tech stocks, including a substantial loss in Nvidia’s market value. The event has prompted a reevaluation of the sustainability of the AI-driven market boom.

DeepSeek relies on less advanced semiconductor chips compared to those produced by Nvidia. Its success challenges the notion that advancing AI requires massive budgets and cutting-edge chips, raising significant questions about the necessity and future of high-performance hardware in driving AI innovation.

Global Implications

DeepSeek R1’s emergence signifies a shift in the global AI landscape, highlighting China’s rapid advancements in AI technology. The model’s success challenges the dominance of American AI firms and raises questions about the effectiveness of U.S. export controls on AI advancements. Industry leaders, such as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, view these developments as a catalyst for increased efficiency and innovation within the AI sector.

DeepSeek R1 represents a significant milestone in AI development, showcasing the potential of reinforcement learning and open-source collaboration. Its performance, cost-effectiveness, and transparency have not only disrupted existing AI paradigms but also highlight the evolving dynamics of global technological competition.

Gemini Gets Support for ‘Talk Live about This’ Suggestion Chip on Pixel 9

0

Google Gemini has now gained support for the ‘Talk Live About This’ Suggestion Chip on Pixel 9. The new capability of Gemini was showcased earlier last week at the Galaxy S25 series launch event. Through the new capability, you can now talk to Gemini Live about images, files, and YouTube videos. Such conversations were earlier limited to general knowledge.

To use the feature, first launch the floating Gemini overlay (through voice or through corner swipe) for a new suggestion chip above the existing “Ask about…” button. When an image is on your screen, “Talk Live about this” suggestion chip appears while in YouTube, “Talk Live about video” appears and in a PDF file, “Talk live about PDF” appears.

Tapping on the suggestion chips takes you to the Gemini Live interface, where a preview of your content appears above the familiar blue and purple sound waves. From there, the process is simple where you begin talking to the assistant. Google explains through a support page that “When you tap on a suggestion, Gemini will upload the info on your screen or in the file for context. These suggestions include things like:

  • Ask about… helps you ask about the screen, file, or a webpage you’re looking at.
  • Talk Live: starts Gemini Live, using what’s on your screen as the starting point.”

To enable auto-submit, you can press and hold on the “Ask about…” chip then tap Turn on auto-submit.

The new “Talk live about this” suggestion chip has been spotted on Pixel 9 devices running Google 16.3.32 (via 9to5Google). It should also roll out to Galaxy S24 series devices soon and should expand to other devices as well.

Leak: Vivo V50 India Launch Next Month

0

The Vivo V50 India launch is reportedly happening next month. While there have been multiple smartphones in the V series every year, it seems like there won’t be a Pro model this time around, and only the Vivo V50 will be launched in the country. Here’s everything to know about the device.

Vivo V50 India Launch Leaked

Samsung Galaxy S25 128GB Model Now Available in India but There’s a Catch

0

Samsung Galaxy S25 series devices were launched globally last week but what wasn’t announced at the time was a 128GB model of the vanilla Galaxy S25 in India. The price of the Galaxy S25 128GB model has now been revealed through a tipster on X, but there’s a drawback in choosing this variant over the 256GB and 512GB versions.

As per Abhishek Yadav on X, the Galaxy S25 128GB model is available in India for Rs 74,999. However, the catch here is that it comes with 3.1 storage which is a downgrade from the UFS 4.0 storage used in 256GB and 512GB models. While this may not bother many as the real-world results may not vary much, it is worth noting that you won’t get all the latest specifications if you opt for a Rs 75k device compared to the same phone’s higher variants.

The S25 comes in at Rs 80,999 for the 12GB + 256GB trim and Rs 92,999 for the 12GB + 512GB model. The 128GB model, however, doesn’t show up on Samsung’s online store as of writing this article. In our opinion, it is better to opt for the 256GB model of the S25 in case you are planning on purchasing the device.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Specifications

The Galaxy S25 has a 6.2-inch FHD+ (2,340 x 1,080) Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+, has a Pixel density of 418 PPI, and is covered in a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The refresh rate of the display can change dynamically between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. The display supports up to 2600 nits peak brightness.

Galaxy S25 camera setup comprises of a 50MP primary wide camera with f/1.8 aperture, multi-directional PDAF and OIS. Then there’s a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x Optical Zoom support, an f/2.4 aperture, OIS, PDAF and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.2 Aperture and 120-degree FoV. Next, it has a 12MP f/2.2 front-facing camera.

It has the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy under the hood, paired with 12GB RAM along with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options.

It runs on a 4000mAh battery and offers 25W wired and 15W wireless charging with reverse wireless charging support. As for the software, the S25 runs on One UI 7.0 based on Android 15 out of the box. Further, the S25 series will receive 7 major Android OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates.

Additional features include dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and IP68 dust & water resistance. Connectivity options on the device includes Wi-Fi 7, 5G, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi Direct.

Does The Galaxy S25 Ultra S-Pen Have Bluetooth? Here’s What You Need to Know

0

The Galaxy S25 Ultra was launched last week and since then, it has created a lot of buzz around the internet. One of the aspects where a lot of confusion lies is whether the Galaxy S25 Ultra S-Pen supports Bluetooth or not. While not having Bluetooth support may not be a deal breaker for many, it does bother those who regularly used features that relied on Bluetooth support in the S-Pen. Here’s what you need to know.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra S-Pen wasn’t discussed by Samsung at the event but soon as people got their hands on the device in retail stores and at Samsung shops, they began to notice the lack of Bluetooth support in the S-Pen as features like Air Actions and others didn’t work on the S25 Ultra. This made some of the fans furious who regularly used such Bluetooth-backed features and found no reason for Samsung to pull off such a move.

However, according to Samsung, these S-Pen Bluetooth-based features were reportedly removed due to data indicating that only a small number of Galaxy S Ultra owners were utilizing them. As per another X user, apart from the reason stated by Samsung, the introduction of the next-generation Qi2 technology brought challenges such as interference caused by magnets and increased heat generation due to which Samsung had to remove Bluetooth support.

Another development showed that Samsung was supposedly selling a Bluetooth-enabled S-Pen separately on Amazon for the Galaxy S25 Ultra but that was most likely a hoax as the reasons mentioned above show that Samsung can’t enable Bluetooth in the S-Pen due to hardware limitations of the S25 Ultra itself.

If that wasn’t enough, another user on X claimed to have used the Galaxy S25 Ultra S-Pen with a Galaxy S23 Ultra and they were able to use features like Air Actions on the S23 Ultra with the S25 Ultra S-Pen. This suggested that Samsung may have disabled Bluetooth connectivity for the S-Pen via software. However, we cannot verify the claims made by the user on X, so we wouldn’t trust the post blindly.

So far, evidence clearly suggests that the Galaxy S25 Ultra S-Pen doesn’t have Bluetooth support and most likely won’t get it in the future as well. Until Samsung clarifies officially, it is best to believe that Bluetooth functionality in the S-Pen has been removed for good.
