Tata and Shell to Establish More EV Charging Stations

0

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) and Shell India Markets Private Limited (SIMPL) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish more public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India.

TPEM and Shell India have outlined plans to establish 10,000 EV charging points by 2030 as per news reports. Shell aims to install fast chargers at its fuel stations and standalone EV hubs, ensuring capabilities through high-capacity direct-current (DC) chargers.

The MoU outlines plans to create charging stations at key locations frequented by Tata EV owners. It also includes developing new payment systems and loyalty programs to improve customer service and value.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, said, “This collaboration with Shell is a step towards expanding the EV ecosystem in India. By combining Shell’s service standards with our understanding of EV utilization, we aim to change the charging experience and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.”

Sanjay Varkey, Director at Shell India Markets Pvt. Ltd., commented on the initiative’s focus on digital integration and customer-oriented services. “Shell is committed to defining the EV charging experience by providing solutions that focus on convenience, safety, and sustainability. This partnership will utilize our expertise to support a sustainable and efficient charging infrastructure,” Varkey noted.

Tata’s partnership with Petrol Pumps:

TPEM has been actively expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging network across India through multiple partnerships and initiatives. TPEM recently announced collaborations with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL). They aim to set up 5,000 charging stations by December 2024. This partnership will capitalize on HPCL’s extensive network of over 21,500 fuel stations.

Prior to that, TPEM also tied up with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) Collaboration. With BPCL, TPEM plans to add 7,000 new charging stations. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that charging stations are available approximately every 100 kilometres along major highways, significantly improving accessibility for EV owners.

These partnerships are pivotal in supporting TPEM’s goal to enhance the EV charging infrastructure, which is crucial for encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles in India. By leveraging the strengths of major fuel station networks and their geographical spread, TPEM aims to alleviate range anxiety for EV users and foster a more robust EV ecosystem.

0

Infinix has debuted the Note 40 5G series in India, consisting of the Note 40 Pro 5G and the Note 40 Pro+ 5G. Both the devices share a lot in common, such as Gorilla Glass protection, the same MediaTek Dimensity chipset, triple rear cameras, and more. Here are all the details about the devices.

Infinix Note 40 5G Series: Price

The Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G comes in Vintage Green and Titan Gold shades and is priced at Rs 21,999 for the single 8GB + 256GB model. The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G comes in Black and Green colour options and is priced at Rs 24,999 for the sole 12GB + 256GB model. The phones have already gone on sale via Flipkart. Early bird sale buyers can get a MagCase and MagPower battery pack worth Rs 4,999 for free only today, April 12th. SBI and HDFC Bank card users can avail a discount worth Rs 2,000.

Infinix Note 40 5G Series: Specs

Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G and the Pro 5G sport a 6.78-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2436 pixels) 3D curved AMOLED Display with 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and 1,300 nits of peak brightness. The display supports 2160Hz PWM dimming and has Corning Gorilla Glass protection. They are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chip paired with up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage which is expandable.

There’s a triple rear camera setup on the back of both, including a 108MP f/1.75 main sensor with OIS, 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor and a tertiary 2MP f/2.4 macro sensor. There’s a 32MP f/2.2 front-facing sensor for selfies and video chats. The Pro+ 5G is backed by a 4600mAh battery that supports 100W fast wired charging and 20W wireless charging while the Pro 5G has a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast wired charging and 20W wireless charging.

Infinix Note 40 5G Series: Competitors

The Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G has to go against Vivo T3 5G which also has a price tag of Rs 21,999 for the top-end 8GB + 256GB model. The Vivo device offers mostly the same specs as the Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G but with a far better that’s going to help it in the long run. However, if you prefer curved displays over flat ones and if you want wireless charging support at all costs, then Infinix’s device is a better pick.

As for the Note 40 Pro+ 5G, it’s competing with the recently launched OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G. The OnePlus device compromises with RAM and storage but it does get you a better processor, an ultra-wide angle sensor on the back, and a bigger battery with the same 100W fast wired charging which are worth the tradeoffs for the same price.

At Rs 22,999, there’s also the Poco X6 5G which has a chipset better than both the Infinix devices. Not only that, but it offers 512GB of storage that’s double what both Infinix Note 40 series phones offer. It also has a bigger battery but the tradeoff is that it runs on Android 13 out of the box.

Galaxy AI Coming To Galaxy S22 Series, Flip 4, Fold 4, Samsung Hints

0

Update 15/04/2024: Samsung has officially confirmed that Galaxy AI will be coming to the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold4, Galaxy Z Flip4 and the Galaxy Tab S8 series starting early May 2024. The list of AI features will include Circle to Search with Google, Chat Assist, Interpreter, Live Translate, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Browsing Assist, Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion and AI-Generated Wallpaper.

Original Story Below

Samsung introduced a range of advanced Galaxy AI features from the Galaxy S24 series to the Galaxy S23 series and other 2023 flagship models. However, users of older models from 2022, such as the Galaxy S22 series, Flip 4, and Fold 4, did not receive these updates. Samsung has hinted that this may change soon, offering hope to users of these older models.

Samsung has announced in a press statement that it will expand its Galaxy AI to include three new languages: Arabic, Indonesian, and Russian, as well as three new dialects: Australian English, Cantonese, and Canadian French. In the same statement, announcing the development, Samsung US left a juicy teaser at the end where it said, “The newly supported Galaxy AI languages and dialects will each be available for download as a language pack from the Settings across all devices that support Galaxy AI. That includes the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series, with more coming soon.”

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series in China: Google Out, Baidu In

The last sentence lists the currently supported Galaxy AI devices “with more coming soon,” suggesting that Samsung may finally expand support for the suite of AI features to its 2022 flagships, including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip4, and Galaxy Z Fold4.

Back in January this year, when it was confirmed the AI features were making their way to 2023 flagships from the brand, Samsung firmly said that they wouldn’t be coming to any other older models as it didn’t know whether the Galaxy S22 series and other devices would be able to handle all the AI features in a stable manner or not.

The reason for the shift is that Samsung Labs might not have faced any issues while testing Galaxy AI in older flagship models. It’s worth noting that Samsung has already brought the AI features to the S23 FE, which uses the same as the Galaxy S22 series. Therefore, optimizing the features for the latter should not have been a major issue. In the end, it’s great news for the 2022 Samsung flagship users that they will be able to experience what made the Galaxy S24 series a successful hit.

VPN By Google To Shut Down, Dark Web Monitoring Coming for All

0

In 2020, Google launched its VPN service called “VPN By Google” for all its Google One subscription plans in select countries. However, Google has recently announced that it will be discontinuing the ‘VPN By Google’ service. Though, users will still have access to a built-in VPN. Besides, Google is introducing a new feature called Dark Web Monitoring that will soon be available to all Google account users.

VPN By Google Shutting Down

A 9to5Google report confirms that VPN by Google will shut down. Mishaal Rahman also posted screenshots of a mail being sent by Google to the Google One subscribers confirming the same. The VPN service was touted to be an “extra layer of online protection for your phone” and allow for “peace of mind that your data is safe.” However, it seems like people didn’t find the feature useful, and Google’s efforts to run it were essentially wasted.

At the moment, this VPN is available through the Google One apps for Android and iOS, while Mac and Windows clients are also available. Google also didn’t share a specific timeline as to when the VPN service would phase out but one can expect it to happen in the coming months. This will allow Google to utilise its resources more efficiently and “support more in-demand features with Google One”, as stated in the publication’s report. The company attempted to encourage subscribers to use the feature by expanding access to all Google One plans (rather than only the top-tier ones) in March 2023. However, this effort did not appear to be successful.

Google does confirm that the free Pixel VPN introduced with the Pixel 7 series in 2022 remains unchanged. At the time, the company guaranteed availability of the feature for a minimum of 5 years. Moreover, the VPN upgrade introduced with the Pixel 8 series is also coming to the Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Pixel Fold in June, so Pixel users don’t have to worry about the feature going away.

For those unaware, the built-in VPN service doesn’t require users to install the Google One app, thanks to deeper integration within the Android operating system on Pixel smartphones.

Dark Web Monitoring To Be Available For All

The screenshots posted by Rahman also show that Google will be making available Dark Web Monitoring for all the eligible Google accounts like how it recently did for some of the Google Photos AI editing tools. While there’s no timeline or specific details mentioned, one can expect the rollout to take place soon.

The feature made its way to India earlier last year. Google One’s dark web report feature helps you scan the dark web for your personal info — like your name, address, email, phone number and Social Security number — and will notify you if it’s found. Dark web reports will also show you other related info that may be found in those data breaches. The info in your monitoring profile is handled according to Google’s privacy policy, and you can delete any info from your profile or stop monitoring at any time.

The Rise of Digital Card Games

In the digital age, card games have transformed into significant contributors to the online gaming sector, altering its economic dynamics. Rooted in global pop culture, Card Game’s shift to the digital platform has been notable, engaging a wide audience and securing its position in the multibillion-dollar online gaming industry.

Card Games in the Digital Realm: Financial Insights

The online gaming sector has experienced growth, propelled by advancements in technology that shifted entertainment preferences towards digital platforms. Card Games, especially Poker, have a strong base in North America and have expanded their reach globally through their online version. This adaptation has not only widened its user base but also made substantial contributions to the global gaming economy.

In 2022, the global online Poker market saw revenues of $60 billion, with future projections indicating an annual growth rate of 11.4% from 2023 to 2030 as per reports. This pace suggests that the Poker market might reach $155 billion by 2030. Compared to the total online gaming market, which was over $204 billion in 2022, Poker’s growth rate surpasses the wider industry, indicating its increasing dominance and market share potential in the future.

A Tradition of Engagement

Poker’s evolution from 19th-century gaming tables to today’s digital platforms speaks to its lasting appeal. The game has largely maintained its original rules, offering a consistent and engaging experience for players across different eras. Major events like the World Series of Poker (WSOP) have kept the game in the public eye, attracting global participation and offering significant rewards.

Wider Economic Effects

Poker’s influence extends beyond online platforms. The surge in online Poker has to the emergence of numerous startups, generating employment and contributing to economies through taxes. The concept of Poker tourism, especially in cities hosting major tournaments like the WSOP, highlights the game’s broader economic impact, benefiting local businesses and communities.

Also, with their growing digital infrastructure, emerging markets have become pivotal for online gaming expansion. Countries like India, with a large and increasing number of online gamers, have shown a preference for real-money gaming, with Poker gaining traction.

According to reports, real-money gaming accounts for 77% of the country’s gaming revenues, which largely comprise fantasy sports, Rummy, and Poker. In Poker’s journey from cardrooms to mobile screens across the world via poker app, emerging economies like India have emerged as major stopovers.

As digital card games, particularly Poker, continue to engage global audiences, their role in shaping the gaming economy is evident. Poker’s adaptation to the digital era signifies an essential aspect of gaming’s relationship with economic growth. Poker’s sustained popularity and digital adaptability ensure its ongoing significance in the global gaming economy.

Is Tesla Finally Coming To India, Musk Hints

0

Tesla’s entry into the Indian market has been a long-rumoured one but we may finally be nearing the launch of one of the world’s biggest electric car manufacturers in India. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted towards the brand’s arrival in India as a meeting between the country’s prime minister and Musk has now been set for the near future.

Musk posted on X that he’s “Looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister @NarendraModi in India!.” Reports have already begun emerging online suggesting that Elon might be planning to announce Tesla’s Indian expansion strategy during his visit to the country. “India is now the most populous country in the world, based on population. India should have electric cars just like every other country has electric cars. It’s a natural progression to provide Tesla electric vehicles in India,” Musk recently said in an X Spaces session with Nicolai Tangen, CEO at Norges Bank Investment Management.

Reuters reports that Musk could announce Tesla’s plan to invest in and open a new factory in India. Per the report, Musk will meet Modi ‘in the week of April 22 in New Delhi.’ However, the news agency added that Musk’s final agenda for the India trip could still change at the last minute. Tesla officials are also expected to visit India this month to scout for potential sites for a manufacturing plant, which would require an investment of about $2 billion.

Meanwhile, a report from The Hindu Business Line suggested that Tesla is also discussing a potential joint venture with Reliance Industries to establish a manufacturing unit for electric vehicles.

For those unaware, earlier this year, the Indian government also announced a new EV policy that lowered the import duties for EVs to just 15%, where manufacturers will be required to invest a minimum of Rs 4,150 crore with no cap on maximum investment. Meanwhile, as per sources familiar with the development, Tesla has reportedly already started the production of right-hand drive cars for the Indian market at its Berlin factory in Germany, and the company plans to ship some units by the end of 2024. As of now, Tesla produces its Model Y at the Germany-based factory but its unclear if its the same model that will arrive in India as well.

A report suggesting similar information came out last year in November, which said that India was on the verge of finalising an agreement with the automaker that would allow it to import its electric cars to the country beginning as soon as next year. Moreover, it suggested that Tesla could establish a manufacturing facility in India within two years.

All the signs point towards the entry of Tesla in India and once it does, the EV segment in the country will likely heat up with major players such as Tata and Mahindra going against the US-based automaker for the top spot.

Realme Relying On Lies to Sell Realme P1 Pro 5G In India

0

Realme, a popular brand in India, has regularly courted controversies. The company has been falsely advertising one of the features of its upcoming smartphone, the Realme P1 Pro 5G. Despite being aware of the mistake, Realme has not corrected the false information yet.

The brand has created a Flipkart microsite for the upcoming Realme P1 Pro 5G where it has listed some of the key features of the handset and one of them doesn’t appear to be true (spotted by a user on X). The brand claims that the Realme P1 Pro 5G is the only smartphone to have a curved display at a price point below Rs 20,000, but in reality, the Lava Blaze Curve 5G already exists in the market with a curved display and is priced starting at Rs 17,999. Moreover, the device was launched back in March 2024.

The microsite that features Realme’s curved panel device is available both on Realme’s website and Flipkart. On its own website, Realme describes the device as having the “best” curved panel at a price point of under Rs 20,000, whereas on Flipkart, it is described as being the “only” device with a curved panel at the same price point. It is unclear whether Realme intentionally made this mistake or corrected it upon detection. However, if it was a mistake, Realme should have corrected it on both platforms. At the time of writing this, the error has not been corrected on Flipkart.

Realme is already making a bold set of claims with its upcoming Power series 5G smartphones. It has confirmed that the Realme P1 5G in the P-series will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 Processor while the Realme P1 Pro 5G has officially been confirmed to be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC.

The brand further claims that Realme P1 5G gets the fastest under Rs 15,000 and also is the first smartphone in the price segment to get a 120Hz AMOLED screen. The closest smartphone to it coming with a 120Hz AMOLED display is the Poco X6 Neo, priced at Rs 15,999. We hope the brand doesn’t falsely advertise any other features of the device, as a similar incident also took place with OnePlus where it had to offer refunds to the customers.

What Are Mercenay Spyware Attacks Apple Is Warning iPhone Users Of?

0

Apple has issued an urgent warning to iPhone users in 92 countries about a series of sophisticated spyware attacks. The tech giant has detected attempts to remotely compromise devices associated with users’ Apple IDs. As a result, Apple has taken swift action to safeguard its customers. This development is significant for cybersecurity and highlights the importance of taking precautions to protect personal information.

What Are Mercenary Spyware Attacks?

In an email notification sent to potentially affected iPhone users, Apple states that mercenary spyware attacks, like those using Pegasus software from the NSO Group in Israel, are not common and are much more sophisticated than regular cybercriminal activity or consumer malware. The company said in a statement that these attacks cost millions of dollars and are targeted at a very small number of individuals, but the targeting is ongoing and global.

The notification further read, “Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-. This attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning — please take it seriously.”

The threat notification emails were sent at around 12.30 am IST on Thursday to impacted users in India. However, it is unclear how many people have received the threat notification from Apple.

How To Safeguard Yourself From Such An Attack?

The Californian smartphone maker also advised users to stay aware regarding any kind of unknown links they receive on their device and tells users not to click on them. In addition, it outlined steps for the users to safeguard themselves by updating their iPhone software to the latest version or enable the lockdown mode which is claimed to be the ultimately secure feature for protecting the data.

However, Apple stated that it could not disclose further details about the cause of the threat notification. This decision was made to prevent mercenary spyware attackers from adjusting their tactics to avoid detection in the future.

Apple began issuing these threat notifications in 2021, and individuals in 150 countries have received them since then. Last year, when the notification was sent in October 2023, at least 20 iPhone users in India received it. Apple, at the time, notified users of a “state-sponsored” attack on their iPhones but later clarified that it wasn’t by any state-sponsored attacker when opposed by the Indian government.
