0

Gemini in Gmail can be a life-saver for those who have to regularly form long e-mails and Google is updating it with two new features. One of the new features called Polish allows the user to ask Gemini to refine the rough notes in their Gmail Drafts and convert them into a full-fledged professional e-mail.

As announced on a Google Workspace blog, Google is introducing two new Gemini in Gmail updates to help you draft emails even faster:

  • Help me write and Refine my draft shortcuts on Android and devices
  • A new option for Help me write that polishes emails drafts on web and mobile devices

On mobile, when an email draft is empty, the “Help me write” shortcut now appears in the body of the email. When selected, it will open the full Help me write experience. Google adds that when 12+ words are present in an email draft, the “Refine my draft” shortcut will be shown below the email content to indicate that there are options available to Polish, Formalize, Elaborate, or Shorten your draft, or Write a new draft. The menu can be triggered simply by swiping right on “Refine my draft.” The Help me write and Refine my draft shortcuts are available now on Android and iOS.

Google’s Pixel Watch 3 is Only Replaceable, Not Repairable

0

Google announced the Pixel Watch 3 last week alongside other new hardware and it has now been officially confirmed that the new smartwatch from Google is only replaceable in case it faces any hardware faults or is damaged by the user, and not repairable.

In a statement given to Android Authority, a Google representative said, “If your device is damaged, you can contact the Google Pixel Watch Customer Support Team to check your replacement options.” When confirming whether the watch is only replaceable in case of any defects or damages, the representative added, “Correct! Pixel Watch 3 is replacement only.”

Google further said that a Preferred Care insurance program is also available in the US, which covers accidental damage and out-of-warranty issues. However, Pixel Watch 3 owners will still have to pay a $49 service fee when opting for a replacement. There’s no word on replacement details or fees for the smartwatch in India as of now.

Making the Pixel Watch 3 only replaceable and non-repairable isn’t the best option, especially for the environment as the faulty watches that are replaced would straight up make it to the dumping ground, thereby by creating excessive E-waste.

The Google Pixel Watch 3 was launched in two sizes, where the 41mm version costs Rs 39,900 while the 45mm model costs Rs 43,900. It comes with over 16% smaller bezels, and has a larger active screen area compared to the Pixel Watch 2 – over 10% more screen on the 41 mm watch and 40% more on the 45 mm size. The Actua display is now 2x brighter with up to 2000 nits of brightness, and it dims to as low as 1 nit in always-on display.

Oppo F27 5G Vs Motorola Edge 50 Fusion: Specs Battle

0

Oppo unveiled its F27 5G smartphone in India on August 20, within the same price range as the Edge 50 Fusion from Motorola. Here’s a specs comparison between the two devices so you can decide which one is worth considering.

Display

The OPPO F27 5G sports a 6.67-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz, a peak brightness of 1200 nits in sunlight, an under-display optical fingerprint sensor, and a 394 ppi.

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion sports a 6.7-inch pOLED curved display with a Resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a Refresh Rate of 144Hz. The display boasts Gorilla Glass protection, a 360Hz touch sampling rate, 10-bit colours, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and a peak brightness of 1600 nits.

In terms of specs, the Edge 50 Fusion has not only better brightness and a higher touch sampling rate and refresh rate but is also curved, which might appeal to a significant chunk of the population.

Performance & Software

The Motorola device is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 Processor, which is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The Oppo device features 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB UFS 2.2 storage and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G processor.

Oppo F27 5g vs Edge 50 Fusion

Both offer the same amount of storage, but Motorola’s handset has higher RAM, which is helpful for those who do a lot of multitasking. Even in terms of processing power, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is ahead with its Snapdragon processor, which is not the most powerful but is still superior to the Dimensity 6300 used in Oppo’s F27 5G.

As for software, both of them run on 14 with their respective skins on top, but the Motorola handset once again has an edge here, with a promise of three major OS updates for its device, while Oppo’s device would only receive two. However, if we go by experience and how stable the software is, we’d say Oppo F27 5G would be a better pick, considering we have had our issues with Hello UI on Edge 50 Fusion, and Motorola isn’t known for timely updates.

Battery & Cameras

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion gets a dual rear camera setup for optics, including an OIS-assisted 50MP Sony LYT-700C f/1.9 main sensor and a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle sensor. At the front, it gets a 32MP f/2.5 sensor with support. In the case of Oppo, the F27 5G, there’s a 50-megapixel f/1.8 main sensor, plus a 2MP f/2.4 portrait sensor. There’s a 32MP f/2.4 front-facing sensor.

We can’t say which one is a better camera system as we haven’t used Oppo F27 5G, but we can tell you, based on first-hand experience, that the Edge 50 Fusion has decent cameras. It also has an ultra-wide-angle sensor that’s much more useful than the portrait sensor used in Oppo’s device.

While both pack a 5000mAh battery, Motorola’s device supports 68W fast charging, while Oppo’s device has 45W fast wired charging, which is significantly slower than that of Edge 50 Fusion.

Conclusion

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion and the Oppo F27 5G have the same starting price tag of Rs 22,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model and the same price tag of Rs 24,999 for their second respective variants, such as 8GB + 256GB for F27 5G and 12GB + 256GB in case of Edge 50 Fusion. In terms of price and overall value, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion stands out as a better choice than the Oppo F27 5G, especially considering the specifications. If you’re willing to make a slight compromise on the software side, the Edge 50 Fusion offers superior features across the board, making it the stronger option.

Airtel Payments Bank Enables Face Match Security Feature for Savings Bank Account Users

Airtel Payments Bank has unveiled Face Match, a security enhancement feature designed to safeguard customer accounts. Face Match, as per the company, “uses sophisticated machine learning algorithms to calculate a threat score for each savings bank account user based on multiple inputs and signals ranging from user behaviour, transaction pattern & location, historical data of similar pattern, device and mobile app-based signals.”

The company says that if a user surpasses this threat score, their Airtel Payments Bank account is secured with Face Match to prevent potential fraudulent transactions. The user will immediately receive a notification on their registered mobile number, notifying them that Face Match has been activated, thereby instructing them to complete a quick verification using the link in the notification to proceed with their transactions.

The link then redirects them to the Face Match section of the Airtel Thanks app, where the user simply needs to take a selfie, which is then compared to the original photo from their onboarding process using advanced facial recognition and liveliness checks.

A successful match allows the user to continue their transactions, while an unsuccessful match prompts them to visit a nearby banking point for biometric verification. This process ensures that only the account holder can perform transactions, maintaining user control and enhancing security.

“As the digital banking landscape evolves, customers are increasingly vulnerable to fraudsters who exploit security gaps to commit crimes such as conduit account frauds, account takeovers, and money laundering. Face Match is designed to address these challenges effectively and at scale,” said Airtel in a press release.

Airtel enabled e-KYC via face authentication for digitally opening an Airtel Payments Bank back in September last year. It allowed users to open an account digitally with the Airtel Payments Bank, using face Biometrics as e-KYC, within minutes from anywhere in the country. Airtel Payments Bank was the first bank in the country to test this facility on its mobile app, said the company at the time.

Google App on Android to Drop Dedicated Search Button: Report

0

Google’s Search is at its core and the foundation of its business and the brand is now on a path to fully integrate within Search. With AI taking over, Google may be planning to give Search a backseat, considering a new report suggests that the company may be planning to remove the dedicated Search button in the Google app on Android.

As Android Authority reported its findings of an teardown of the new Google app 15.32.37.28.arm64 beta, it was found that Google is testing three new layouts for the app’s bottom navigation bar that no longer feature a prominent Search button. While the search bar on the top serves the same functionality as the search button, it still takes away a key functionality of the app where the user could easily access Search right from the bottom bar.

One of the layouts show only two buttons in the bottom navigation bar, including “Home” and “Saved.” The other one gets a “Home” button along with what looks like a “Share” button. The third one has four button, including “Home,” an icon with four squares which could be for other Google apps, a “Saved” button, and a “Bell icon,” likely for notifications.

Current UI

There’s no detail regarding when this change might come to the general public, but it may be controversial once it arrives despite being a minor one.

In related news to Google, it recently announced a redesign for the Meet app. Meet’s new calling interface has a fresh look and feel, making it easier to start and receive video calls or schedule one for later. The redesigned Google Meet App has a new layout that includes call control buttons that mirror the meeting experience. You can also more easily access advanced features like live captions, which are available in over 70 languages.
