Google Releases the First Update for Pixel Buds Pro 2

0

It has been months since Google debuted the Buds Pro 2 but its first update is being released just now. The first update for Pixel Buds Pro 2 brings a couple of new features along with improvements and bug fixes. Here’s everything to know about the new update for Pixel Buds Pro 2.

Google began rolling out firmware version 3.144 to the Pixel Buds Pro 2 a couple of days but it is reaching users in batches. As spotted by 9to5Google, the new update brings a new “Bud return” sound which plays when the earbuds are correctly placed in the case. It’s a quick, subtle ding that confirms proper alignment with the charging pins. This seems to address an issue where users could mistakenly place the buds on the wrong side, with the only previous indicator being difficulty closing the case.

Like the “Other alerts” category which includes sounds for charging start, low battery, pairing success, and errors, this feature can be toggled off. However, the sound itself is quiet and unobtrusive, the publication notes.

The first update for Pixel Buds Pro 2 also brings a new Surroundings slider that has appeared in the Device details page of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 companion app, located just below the Audio Switch setting. It seems to control the amount of ambient sound allowed in, with the accompanying icon changing based on the selected level. However, this feature is only appearing for those users who are running the Android 16 Beta 1 on their Pixel smartphones.

To check for the update, from the Device details/companion app, go to More settings > Firmware update to check if an update is available. The further process is as follows:

  • Updates will be downloaded to your earbuds the next time you use them with your Pixel or Android 6.0+ devices. This takes about 10 minutes, and during this time you can continue using your Pixel Buds.
  • If your earbuds and charging case have sufficient charge, the update will begin installing the next time you place your earbuds to the charging case. This also takes about 10 minutes.

It may take multiple attempts for the update to complete. For example, taking your earbuds out of the charging case while it’s being installed may pause the update. However, if any part of the process is interrupted, it will resume at the next opportunity.

Nothing Phone (3a) Specs Leak Suggests Notable Camera Upgrades Over Phone (2a)

0

Nothing’s Phone (2a) was one of its successful smartphones from 2024 and the brand is seemingly ready with its successor. As the company prepares for the March 4 launch, a new Nothing Phone (3a) specs leak may have spilled beans on what’s to come on that date. Here are the details and a potential teaser from Nothing as well.

Nothing has stuck to a dual camera setup on all its smartphones till now, with most of them including a primary and an ultra-wide sensor while the CMF phone has a depth sensor instead of the ultra-wide. Now, Nothing may be bringing a telephoto sensor to its phone lineup for the first time, and may have also teased it through an X post.

A short video from Nothing briefly zooms in on Carl Pei showing a reflection of ‘Launch 4 March’ on his sunglasses, with a noticeable shift in viewfinder as the phone switches lenses about halfway through. The exact transition point is unclear, but it appears to happen around 2-3x zoom. While this could be from the Nothing Phone (3), it’s looking more likely that it’s for the Nothing Phone (3a) instead.

As for the Nothing Phone (3a) specs leak, it suggests that the device will pack a bigger 6.8-inch panel compared to Phone (2a)’s 6.7-inch display. Then, it will be powered by thw Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, have a triple camera setup including two 50MP cameras for primary and telephoto lens paired with an 8MP ultrawide and a 32MP selfie camera. It could be backed up by the same 5,000 mAh battery as the Phone (2a). It could run on Nothing OS 3.1 based on 15.

There’s no word on the leaked Nothing Phone (3a) Plus model but it may also arrive alongside the Phone (3a) or it may debut later in the year. The Phone (2a) did well in most of our tests during its review and we feel the Phone (3a) may deliver well on all fronts if priced correctly.

DeepSeek R1: The Game-Changing AI Model Everyone’s Talking About

0

DeepSeek R1 is an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) model developed by the Chinese startup DeepSeek, which emerged from a hedge fund. Launched in January 2025, DeepSeek R1 has garnered significant attention for its performance and open-source approach, positioning it as a formidable competitor to established AI models like OpenAI’s o1.

Development and Training

DeepSeek R1 was developed using pure reinforcement learning, a method that allows the model to learn and improve without relying on supervised data. This approach is reminiscent of techniques used in models like Google DeepMind’s AlphaZero. By employing this strategy, DeepSeek R1 has achieved advanced capabilities in mathematics, coding, and reasoning tasks.

In evaluations, DeepSeek R1 has demonstrated performance comparable to OpenAI’s o1 model across various tasks, including mathematical problem-solving, coding, and natural language reasoning. Notably, it achieved a 97% accuracy rate in solving mathematical problems and outperformed 96% of humans in programming tests.

Where is it Available?

The company’s AI is available for download through Apple’s App Store and the Google as well. The service is completely free to use and not only that, but it has also quickly become the top downloaded app on Apple’s store, surpassing even OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It has also become the top-rated free application in the US on Apple’s app store.

Open-Source Commitment

A distinguishing feature of DeepSeek R1 is its commitment to open-source principles. The model is fully open-sourced under the MIT license, allowing researchers and developers to access, modify, and build upon its codebase. This transparency contrasts with the nature of many Western AI models and has been praised within the tech community.

The release of DeepSeek R1 has had significant economic implications. Its development reportedly required less computing power and was achieved at a fraction of the cost compared to models like OpenAI’s o1. This efficiency has to disruptions in the stock market, with notable declines in tech stocks, including a substantial loss in Nvidia’s market value. The event has prompted a reevaluation of the sustainability of the AI-driven market boom.

DeepSeek relies on less advanced semiconductor chips compared to those produced by Nvidia. Its success challenges the notion that advancing AI requires massive budgets and cutting-edge chips, raising significant questions about the necessity and future of high-performance hardware in driving AI innovation.

Global Implications

DeepSeek R1’s emergence signifies a shift in the global AI landscape, highlighting China’s rapid advancements in AI technology. The model’s success challenges the dominance of American AI firms and raises questions about the effectiveness of U.S. export controls on AI advancements. Industry leaders, such as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, view these developments as a catalyst for increased efficiency and innovation within the AI sector.

DeepSeek R1 represents a significant milestone in AI development, showcasing the potential of reinforcement learning and open-source collaboration. Its performance, cost-effectiveness, and transparency have not only disrupted existing AI paradigms but also highlight the evolving dynamics of global technological competition.
