Microsoft Edge Performance Gets a Boost, Now Faster & More Responsive

0

Microsoft performance has been given a boost by Microsoft with even faster and more responsive than before. Microsoft says this was made possible “through a cumulation of efforts of the past few months,” allowing it to reach a major milestone of achieving a global First Contentful Paint (FCP) below 300ms.

Introduced by Google in in 2017, “FCP measures how long it takes the browser to render the first piece of DOM content after a user navigates to your page. Images, non-white elements, and SVGs on your page are considered DOM content.” Microsoft noted that “industry research shows that waiting longer than 300 to 400ms for the initial content can significantly impact user satisfaction.”

With the boost in Microsoft Edge performance, the company met this critical threshold to ensure that the “most used browser features appear almost instantly, letting you engage with the content sooner.”

“This achievement not only aligns with widely recognized web performance standards but also underscores our commitment to delivering industry-leading speed,” said Microsoft. Since February 2025, when Microsoft gave Edge its previous performance boost, the company says it has dramatically reduced load times by an average of 40%, and achieved greater responsiveness, for 13 browser features, such as:

  • Workspaces: from the moment you open a page, tasks feel more responsive and intuitive, allowing you to dive into your work without delay.
  • Settings: you can now more quickly load and navigate to the browser settings and customize your browsing experience.
  • Read aloud: to experience AI-powered reading of webpages in more languages, accents, and voices—all with reduced startup time and smoother playback.
  • Split screen: effortlessly switch between tasks and windows with near-instant navigation and less loading delays.

This has been made possible thanks to the shift to WebUI 2.0. According to Microsoft, the new markup-first architecture helps cut down the size of code bundles and JavaScript executed during UI initialization.

Microsoft says that in the coming months, one can expect additional performance improvements across more features, including Print Preview, Extensions, and more.

Google Widely Rolls Out Manage Subscriptions List in Gmail App and on Web

0

Google is rolling out the new Manage Subscriptions list in Gmail on iOS and and on the web more widely. Initial release for select users began in April this year. “With Gmail’s new “Manage subscriptions” feature, you can view and manage your subscription emails, making it easy to unsubscribe from the ones you no longer want all from a single place,” explains Google.

In a blog post, Google said, “with the new “Manage subscriptions” view, you’ll find your active subscriptions sorted by the most frequent senders alongside the number of emails they’ve sent you in the past few weeks.” Further, you can click on any of the senders for a direct view of all the emails they’ve sent. Then, you can unsubscribe in one click, and Gmail will send an unsubscribe request to the sender on your behalf.

To find this view, click the navigation bar in the top-left corner of your inbox and select “Manage subscriptions.” Google notes that the new Manage Subscriptions list in Gmail is now rolling out on web, Android and iOS in select countries.

”Gmail has always worked to keep unwanted emails out of your inbox. Our requirements for senders and tools like one-click unsubscribe give you even more control to choose and actually stop getting emails you no longer want. And the new “Manage subscriptions” view makes it easier than ever to manage what stays and what goes,” said Google.

When the feature first rolled out in April this year, Google noted:

  • It can take a few days for the sender to unsubscribe you. During this time, you might continue to get messages from the sender.
  • If you block a sender, it doesn’t automatically unsubscribe you from their mailing list. Instead, any future emails from the sender go directly to Spam.

Samsung Readying Android Auto Alternative Called ‘Auto DEX’

0

Samsung seems to be working on an Auto alternative for its devices that could be called Auto DEX. The Auto DEX will notably work even if your car doesn’t support the function or if your phone doesn’t have support for DEX. Here’s what the leak has to say about the upcoming feature from the brand.

The leak comes from X user “Galaxy Techie” according to whom Samsung’s ‘Auto DeX’ will support 8500+ car models of 120+ brands. “The great news is, even if your car doesn’t support it or you don’t have a car, you can use it with some tricks. Another great news is, you can use DeX even if your phone doesn’t support it,” the leaker said.

The screenshot shows a music player along with a blank box in the middle which will likely show the Maps when navigation is enabled. The navigation bar can be seen both at the bottom and at the left-hand side which is likely due to the fact that Auto DEX can be enabled with “tricks.”

As of now, a lot of information is under the wraps, such as when the feature will be launched, which smartphone models will it support, how will it work alongside Android Auto, what kind of support would be present, etc. Because this is described as a “very early implementation” of the feature, we should know more once Samsung officially confirms that it is active development.

As of now, the company is setting the stage in New York for its next launch, which includes the the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip 7 FE, and the Galaxy Watch 8 series. The devices will be launched later today.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Coming Soon – Evolution or Revolution?

0

The soon to be launched, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has been getting attention long before its launch on 8th July and that too for good reason. The tech giant appears to be fine-tuning its foldable series, focusing less on dramatic overhauls and more on meaningful refinements and user centric upgrades. While it may not redefine the category (revolution), the Z Fold 7 could still be one of the most polished iterations (evolution) yet in Samsung’s foldable lineup.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s likely in store—and what still warrants a raised eyebrow.

Wider, Slimmer, and Hopefully Smarter

If the leaks and industry chatter are anything to go by, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to adopt a wider cover screen—shedding the tall, narrow proportions of its predecessors. This change in the foam factor (which the consumers have been demanding for a long time) could have a big impact on usability. It will make Fold feel more like a conventional smartphone when closed.

Another change Samsung is reportedly bringing on is a slimmer design. The Fold 7 is rumoured to be the thinnest Fold yet, a much-needed improvement for users who found earlier versions bulky. These physical refinements won’t make headlines like a new folding mechanism might, but for everyday users, they could mean a better experience.

Camera System Could Finally Catch Up

Samsung Foldables have often lagged behind traditional flagships when it comes to camera performance but that could change this year. Rumors suggest the Fold 7 might borrow heavily from the Galaxy Ultra series, possibly even sporting a 200MP main sensor.

If true, that would be a welcome shift. It would bring the Fold series much closer to parity with Samsung’s premium phones, especially for those who care about mobile photography. For content creators and casual shooters alike, that kind of camera muscle could be a game-changer.

Tri-Fold? Not Just Yet

While the Fold 7 itself will almost certainly stick to the familiar book-style hinge, whispers of a tri-fold prototype have been making the rounds. Samsung is said to be exploring devices with two hinges and three display panels—a concept that could redefine the entire category.

But don’t expect to see that in the Fold 7. Any tri-fold release, if it happens at all, is likely further down the pipeline. Still, the buzz signals that Samsung is thinking long-term when it comes to foldables—and that’s something to watch.

Multitasking, Now More Refined

Over the years, productivity has always been one of the Samsung Fold series strongest selling points and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 looks to improve it further. With an expansive inner display, support and One UI enhancements, multitasking is expected to be more seamless than ever. Think improved split-screen performance, smoother transitions, and a workspace that feels more like a tablet than a phone.

For business users and digital nomads, that might be reason enough to upgrade—especially if you’re still hanging on to an older Fold or Note device.

Tempering Expectations

That said, the Fold 7 won’t be for everyone—and it’s important to keep expectations in check.

The price tag is expected to remain steep, likely north of $1,500. For first-time buyers or those eyeing Samsung’s Galaxy S25, which is expected to offer flagship specs at a sligltly lower cost, the Fold 7’s price might not fit the bill.

Battery life could also be a sticking point. A thinner device often means less room for battery and early reports suggest the Fold 7 might shave off some capacity compared to its predecessor. Even with software tweaks, power users could find themselves short of power on a hectic day.

What Should You Expect?

Should you be excited? If you’re already invested in foldables—or curious about the form factor—the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might be one of Samsung’s most refined offerings yet. It appears to strike a better balance between innovation and usability, with thoughtful upgrades to design, camera, and productivity.

But if you’re hesitant about price, battery performance or the long-term durability of foldables, it might be wise to wait for hands-on reviews. The tech is maturing, but it’s not perfect.

Still, there’s no denying it that foldables are here to stay. And with the Z Fold 7, Samsung looks determined to prove that smarter, not just newer, is the way forward.

Samsung Announces New Security Features in One UI 8, Coming Up with Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7

Samsung has announced a set of new security features in One 8 which will be rolled with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Z Flip 7. “These updates reinforce Samsung’s commitment to delivering powerful, trusted mobile technology in a rapidly evolving digital world by introducing new protections for on-device AI, expanding cross-device threat detection and enhancing network security with quantum-resistant encryption,” said the company.

As a part of the new security features in One UI 8, Samsung is introducing Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), which is a new architecture designed to safeguard the next generation of personalized, AI-powered features. KEEP creates encrypted, app-specific storage environments within the device’s secure storage area, ensuring that each can access only its own sensitive information and nothing more.

Supporting Galaxy’s Personal Data Engine (PDE), KEEP helps secure a user’s deeply personal insights — such as routines and preferences — that enable features like Now Brief and Smart Gallery search. These insights stay entirely on-device, protected by KEEP and further secured by Knox Vault, Samsung’s tamper-resistant hardware security environment.

KEEP’s system-level structure allows it to scale across Galaxy innovations. In addition to PDE, it now protects Now Brief, Smart Suggestions and other on-device features that rely on user-specific inputs — enabling more advanced AI experiences without compromising privacy.

Next, Samsung is advancing protections that offer not just stronger security, but greater transparency and control for users, with Knox Matrix leading the way. Through One UI 8, Samsung is evolving Knox Matrix to deliver more proactive and user-friendly protection for connected Galaxy devices. When a device is flagged for serious risk — such as system manipulation or identity forgery — it is designed to automatically sign out of the Samsung Account, cutting off access to cloud-connected services to prevent threats from spreading.

Users are notified across their connected Galaxy devices and guided to the ‘Security status of your devices’ page, where they can review the issue and take action. Even devices without the latest security status updates trigger a yellow-level warning, helping users respond before vulnerabilities grow.

The new security features in One UI 8 include post-quantum cryptography to Secure Wi-Fi, extending the trusted approach first introduced on the Galaxy S25 series through Post-Quantum Enhanced Data Protection (EDP). Secure is now being upgraded with a new cryptographic framework designed to strengthen network protection against emerging threats, particularly those anticipated in the era of quantum computing. This enhancement secures the key exchange process at the core of encrypted connections, helping ensure robust privacy even over public networks.

By integrating post-quantum cryptography, Secure Wi-Fi is built to withstand future attacks that capture encrypted data with the intent to break it once quantum technology matures — a tactic known as “harvest now, decrypt later.” This upgrade fortifies the secure tunnel between Galaxy devices and Samsung servers, reinforcing the integrity of data transmissions in high-risk environments like public Wi-Fi.

In addition to this, Secure Wi-Fi offers a suite of advanced privacy features:

  • Auto Protect: Automatically activates in public places like cafés, airports or hotels, securing Wi-Fi connections without requiring user action.
  • Enhanced Privacy Protection (EPP): Encrypts internet traffic and routes it through multiple layers, combining packet and relay to anonymize device information and help prevent tracking.
  • Protection Activity: Provides visibility into protection history by showing which apps and networks were secured and how much data was encrypted over time.
