Google Gemini to Introduce ‘Select Text’ Feature for Convenient Response Copying

0

Google Gemini, like other chatbots, allows users to copy the responses it generates as a result of the users’ query but the user has to always copy the full response and not a part of it if he/she wants to. However, that may soon change as Google might be planning to introduce a new ‘Select Text’ feature in the Gemini app.

Spotted by AssembleDebug and shared by Android Authority, the new ‘Select Text’ feature in the Google Gemini will allow users to select just a desired portion of Gemini’s response and then copy and paste that specific selected text. This will essentially remove the inconvenience of copying the whole response first and then editing it later on according to user preference after pasting.

The new feature was spotted by enabling a hidden flag in the Gemini app, and once available, it can be found in the same spot where you currently find the “Copy text” tool in your chatbot conversation. Once you tap on ‘Select text’, it should potentially allow you to tap and hold on the text and drag your finger to the point where the text you want to copy ends, similar to how you copy text across the system.

The same functionality is also available in the ChatGPT app and it works exactly like how Google Gemini is planning to implement the feature. Meanwhile, Google also seems to be working on some other features across its ecosystem of services, such as Satellite Connectivity support in Google Maps.

Google Maps may allow interaction with the satellites directly for enhanced communication in case of emergencies. According to evidence spotted inside the app, it will allow you to update your location in the app via satellite at 15-minute intervals, up to five times a day.

0

Samsung seems to be working on a new smartphone in the Fan Edition series, and it could be none other than the Galaxy S24 FE. The S24 FE would bring a good amount of Galaxy S24 series features and specs to an overall lower price package. A new leak suggests that the development of Galaxy S24 FE is going on at Samsung and it may arrive this year.

According to GalaxyClub, Samsung is developing a new device that gets the codename R12. For reference, the publication mentions that the Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy S21 FE, and Galaxy S23 FE were codenamed R8, R9, and R11, making it clear that R12 would be the Galaxy S24 FE. The Galaxy S22 FE was codenamed R10, however, it was never released.

The publication didn’t delve into any other details about the upcoming Fan edition device but the device is expected to arrive sometime during Q4 of the 2024. The worlwide launch may take place next year. However, these are all speculations and nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Galaxy S24 FE could have the Exynos 2400 chipset, while select markets would get the Snapdragon version, according to a previous report. Aside from that, it could sport a 6.1-inch AMOLED Display along with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and two storage variants such as 128GB (UFS 3.1) and 256GB (UFS 4.0). The size of the display remains unconfirmed as of yet. Meanwhile, the Fan edition lineup could soon expand and include new Samsung foldables. The first entry-level Galaxy Z Fold FE model this year is likely to be released around the same time as the Apple iPhone 16 series, which should be sometime between September and October. “The shipment target of the entry-level model Z-Fold 6 is not much, ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 units. However, it could distract consumer interest in the iPhone 16 series, which is coming at a similar time”, a report read.

The app is available for a select number of users and will be competing with the likes of Samsung Wallet and Cred in India, both of which offer a similar type of service such as what Google does. Here’s how to download it.

Google Wallet Now In India

Multiple users on X have shared that they are able to download the Google Wallet app from the but a chunk of users say that the Play Store listing for Google Wallet for them says that the app isn’t available in their country yet, suggesting a wider rollout is yet to be initiated. We weren’t able to download the app on our end either.

However, some users suggest that apart from mobile availability, the app is now also being shown on their Wear smartwatches in India. Samsung Offers Free Display for Green Line Issue on Flagship Phones

0

The green line has plagued and AMOLED screens on smartphones for some time now. While companies have responded with their respective fixes, Samsung India is now also taking care of the affected customers by providing a free one-time display replacement without any additional cost. Here’s how you can book your free repair with Samsung. But first, know what the green line issue is in smartphones.

What Is The Green Line Issue With AMOLED Smartphone Displays?

The Green Line Issue with AMOLED smartphone displays is a hardware problem that manifests as a thin, vertical green line running from the top to the bottom of the screen. This defect is particularly noticeable and can be pretty annoying, although the rest of the display functions normally. It’s been reported across various smartphone brands and models, especially those with AMOLED screens.

The issue’s exact cause is unclear, but it is thought to stem from a faulty display connector or flex cable, linking the display to the phone’s main circuit board. Damage, looseness, or defects in these parts can result in display malfunctions. Other possible causes include accidental damage such as piercing the display, dropping the phone, applying sustained pressure, or water damage.

One of the other major causes behind the appearance of this line is also certain software updates that trigger it randomly. This cause has come to light recently, and is one of the most concerning ones considering a software update that’s meant to improve your experience, could randomly become the trigger for a hardware defect.

How To Fix The Green Line Issue?

Unfortunately, the green line issue cannot be resolved through software fixes and typically requires a hardware repair. This often involves replacing the entire display assembly and, depending on the phone model, possibly the motherboard as well. Users experiencing this issue are advised to contact customer support for their device to initiate a repair, which may or may not be covered under warranty, depending on the manufacturer and the specific circumstances. If the issue is widespread, brands generally begin offering the screen replacement for free, like in Samsung’s case.

How Has It Affected Samsung Users?

The green line issue has been affecting some Samsung flagship smartphones of late, including even the latest Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to another Reddit user, the problem manifested six days after using the Galaxy S24 Ultra. In this instance, both a green line and a white line appeared horizontally, in addition to the vertical green line.

Aside from this, the Samsung Galaxy S20 series and the S21 series have also been affected by the green line issue. Galaxy S21 Ultra and S21 FE models are the ones that most frequently found to be affected. Most of these users faced the issue as soon as they updated to the April 2024 security patch.

How To Get Your Smartphone Display Repaired For Free By Samsung?

To cater to the affected population, Samsung India began offering a one-time free screen replacement to Galaxy Note 20 series and S20 series users in July last year. Now, the free display replacement program for those who have a green line has also been expanded to cover Samsung Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 Ultra models, as spotted by Tarun Vats on X. Samsung still won’t be able to offer a solution if you are a user who owns Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and the Galaxy S21 FE and are affected by the green line issue.

However, you’ll have to be quick, as Samsung is running this program only till April 30, 2024, that gives you a week to get your smartphone fixed. If you are affected by the issue, you can book your repair with the brand until April 30 and you’ll also get a free replacement of OCTA assembly, battery and a Rework Kit.

If you want to be eligible for the free display repair program, your device has to be in its 3-year phase since purchase and there has to be no physical or liquid damage to the device. It is worth noting that you can avail the service even if your device is out of warranty.

Sony Reinforces Camera Market Amidst Smartphone Competition

0

As the landscape of digital imaging evolves, the conversation about the capabilities and roles of smartphone cameras versus traditional cameras continues to be vibrant and significant. Mukesh Srivastava, Head of the Digital Imaging Business at Sony India, offers a deep dive into how these technologies differ and the advantages that dedicated cameras hold despite advances in smartphone technology.

The Impact of Smartphone Cameras on Traditional Cameras

Srivastava notes that while smartphone cameras come equipped with increasingly sophisticated technology, they still cannot match the quality of traditional cameras.

He explained that while smartphone technology continues to advance, there remains a clear distinction in the capabilities of dedicated cameras. “The technology in smartphones and cameras is advancing each day. Despite the impressive features of modern smartphones, they still face challenges in matching the quality delivered by dedicated cameras,” he said.

He highlighted the versatility of dedicated cameras, particularly their range of interchangeable lenses, which allows for precision in meeting diverse photographic needs.

Sharing examples, he said that Sony’s array of specialized cameras includes models such as the Alpha 7SM3, designed for video recording, and the professional-grade Alpha 9III and Alpha 7RV, tailored for high-end photography.

Srivastava also mentioned Sony’s Creator’s Cloud service, simplifying the image-sharing and uploading process and enhancing user workflow efficiency.

He said, “Beyond hardware, Sony enhances the user experience through services like the Creator’s Cloud, which streamlines the sharing and management of digital content.” He added, “This service is part of Sony’s commitment to providing comprehensive solutions that support photographers and videographers in their creative processes, ensuring efficient and seamless workflow management.”

Innovations in Camera Technology: The Alpha 9III

Discussing the newly launched Alpha 9III, Srivastava said, “The Alpha 9III features the world’s first global shutter full-frame image sensor. This allows blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 120fps and distortion-free RAW images, setting new industry benchmarks.”

Alpha 9III

The camera also supports advanced video capabilities, like 120p recording without crop and 6K oversampling for enhanced 4K 60p footage.

He said that these innovations reflect Sony’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of imaging technology, providing professionals with tools that offer speed, precision, and versatility.

Relevance of Point-and-Shoot Cameras in the Smartphone Era

When asked about the market for point-and-shoot cameras in the era of smartphones that collaborate with high-profile camera brands like Leica and Hasselblad, Srivastava maintains that there is still a significant market for point-and-shoot cameras.

“Point-and-shoot cameras provide a simple yet professional-quality option for users. They offer fast autofocus, which is especially notable in Sony cameras, allowing for quick and accurate subject capture,” he stated.

He pointed out that these cameras overcome some of the smartphones’ common limitations, such as battery life, and offer features like professional-quality Bokeh control and built-in ND filters that appeal to professional creators.

“Moreover, compact cameras come loaded with features that cater to professional creators, such as product showcase settings for product review videos, one-button pro-quality Bokeh control, and a unique directional three-capsule mic that enhances sound quality,” he explained.

“These cameras also deliver professional-grade video with S-log2 & S-log3 gamma control. Furthermore, when it comes to image quality, cameras surpass smartphones due to their larger and optical zoom, resulting in sharper and more detailed photos,” He added.

Srivastava’s narrative is one of a vibrant future for dedicated cameras, driven by continual technological innovations and a clear demand for high-performance, versatile imaging solutions.

Apple iPad Air 2024 To Use Mini-LED Display From iPad Pro: Report

0

Apple may be working on launching the new iPad lineup in May this year and new rumors have begun popping up about the products, suggesting that one of the upcoming iPad Air 2024 models would be equipping a mini LED display that has also been used in the previous generation of iPad Pro tablet.

According to Ross Young, CEO of research firm Display Supply Chain Consultants, the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air will be using the same mini-LED display the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has used in the past. To recall, the existing 10.9-inch iPad Air is equipped with a standard panel, and switching to the mini-LED display for the 12.9-inch model would account for a significant upgrade over previous iPad Air models, as it will enable increased brightness for HDR content, deeper blacks, and more.

As per Young, the 12.9-inch iPad Air will be using the leftover mini-LED display panels from the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. He noted that this panel will also allow for lower power consumption as another benefit. Considering Apple is using the panels it is left with and can also produce more easily given it already has the production line set up, it is possible that the smaller 10.9-inch iPad Air may not use a mini-LED panel but would stick with LCD. It may also encourage users to buy the bigger iPad Air for a better viewing experience.

The iPad Pro 2024 will also be getting an upgrade from mini-LED to displays, as pointed out by multiple leaks in the past. It is reportedly due to the new displays on the iPad Pro Apple has had to delay the launch of the new iPads by a month, as they were earlier expected to launch in April. This upgrade will allow for better colour reproduction along with more efficient operation as well.

The iPad Pro models — codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721 — are expected to be powered by the new M3 chip and work with redesigned versions of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. As for the iPad Air, it will get a new Processor and will be available in a new 12.9-screen size. This will give consumers an option for a bigger iPad at a cheaper price point than the Pro model.
