Gmail is Introducing Gemini-powered Contextual Smart Replies

0

In its latest update, Gmail is introducing Gemini-powered contextual smart replies which will replace the current Smart Reply feature in the email app. The Smart reply feature was introduced back in 2017 but the new Gemini-powered contextual smart replies will offer a more detailed response as compared to Smart Reply.

“We realize there are scenarios in which users would like to respond with more than a simple “Sounds good to me!” or a “Yes, I’m working on it”. As a result, we’re excited to announce a new Gemini in Gmail feature, contextual Smart Replies, that will offer more detailed responses to fully capture the intent of your message,” said Google in a Workspace updates blog post.

After initiating an email reply, users will see a few response options at the bottom of their screen that take the full content of the email thread into consideration. A user can then hover over each response to get a quick preview of the text, select the one that looks apt for the situation, and edit it as they see fit or send the response immediately.

However, the feature isn’t available for everyone. It is available for Google Workspace customers with add-ons including Google One AI Premium, Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium.

Meanwhile, Gmail also got the new “Quick Reply” feature recently, which is best for quick, lightweight responses. With the feature, one can reply to emails directly from the bottom of the conversation, without opening a new screen, making it easier to reference the email they’re replying. For longer and more formal responses, one can simply expand the text box to access more formatting options.

To use the Quick Reply feature in the Gmail on Android, open an email > click into the text box at the bottom > type your reply > tap the send icon. Clicking the “Expand to full screen” icon allows you to switch to the full screen compose view. Google confirmed that this feature will also be available on iOS devices later this year.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Won’t Be Called 8 Gen 4 But Snapdragon 8 Elite

0

Qualcomm renamed its Snapdragon series of processors for smartphones about 4 years ago with the debut of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and a rebrand is on the cards once again. New teasers from Xiaomi and OnePlus reveal that their upcoming flagships will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite and not Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which was the expected moniker of the forthcoming by Qualcomm.

Xiaomi and OnePlus posted teasers on Weibo regarding the launch of Xiaomi 15 and OnePlus 13, both of which have been confirmed to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite. The devices will launch on October 23, as per the teasers shared. The reveal would take place two days after Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite, which should be on October 21.

It seems like Qualcomm wants to streamline the naming scheme of its smartphone processors to match that of its computer CPUs, which are dubbed as Snapdragon X Elite processors. Qualcomm’s current naming system for its smartphone processors has become quite confusing with names such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 8s Gen 3, 7 Gen 2, 7+ Gen 2, 7 Gen 3, 7s Gen 3, etc.

Samsung Galaxy M15 5G Prime Edition Launched: How Does it Differ From Galaxy M15 5G?

0

Samsung has announced a new smartphone in India, dubbed Galaxy M15 5G Prime Edition. The launch comes after Samsung launched the regular Galaxy M15 5G in India back in April. Here’s everything you need to know about the new launch from the Korean brand in India.

Samsung Galaxy M15 5G Prime Edition: Price, Availability

Available in three colours – Blue Topaz, Celestial Blue and Stone Grey, Galaxy M15 5G Prime Edition will be available on Amazon.in, Samsung.com and at select retail stores for Rs 10,999 for the 4GB + 128GB model, Rs 11,999 for the 6GB + 128GB trim, and Rs 13,499 for the top-end 8GB + 128GB version. One can apply a coupon discount of Rs 300 on the top-end version on Amazon India.

Samsung Galaxy M15 5G Prime Edition: Specifications

The Galaxy M15 5G Prime Edition has a 6.6-inch full-HD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. An octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC and a Mali G57 GPU powers the phone with up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM.

It comes with a built-in storage of 128GB, which can be expanded to 1TB with a microSD card. The phone comes with One UI 6 pre-loaded, which is based on Android 14 and will receive 4 major Android OS upgrades.

The triple camera setup on the back comprises of a 50-megapixel f/1.8 primary sensor with 10x magnification, a 5-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel f/2.4 camera with a macro sensor. The front camera has a 13-megapixel f/2.0 sensor.

While they are essentially the same devices, the Prime edition is offered in an additional version with 8GB RAM which the M15 5G wasn’t offered in, initially. Further, the Prime edition costs much cheaper than the M15 5G which makes the latter irrelevant, despite both of them having identical specs.

Disney+ Password Sharing Crackdown Begins as Streaming Service Targets Account Sharing

0

Disney+ has followed in the steps of Netflix, as the Disney+ Sharing crackdown has begun which will require users to pay extra for each member they want to add to their account for sharing beyond their household. Here’s everything to know about the new development.

Disney+ announced that its paid sharing program intends to give its users ways to enjoy their Disney+ subscription along with a family member or friend, through the management of devices within a household.

The streaming service makes it clear that your Disney+ subscription is meant to be used within your Household, which is a collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside there. People outside of your Household will need to sign up and pay for their own subscription or be added as an Extra Member to your account for an additional monthly fee to continue enjoying Disney+.

In the U.S., an Extra Member profile will cost an additional $6.99 (approx Rs 584) per month for Disney+ Basic subscriptions and $9.99 (approx Rs 834) per month for Disney+ Premium subscriptions. In addition, only one Extra Member slot is available per account.

Alternatively, individuals outside your household can create their own Disney+ subscription. As the account holder, you have the option to transfer an eligible profile to either a new subscription or an Extra Member, ensuring that the profile’s watch history and settings remain intact. However, certain profiles cannot be transferred, such as primary profiles (those belonging to the account holder), profiles created for minors, and profiles set to Junior Mode.

Similar to Netflix, if you’re away from home or on the go, you’ll still be able to watch Disney+ on your supported devices as the account holder or member of your Household by marking yourself as “I’M AWAY FROM HOME”, or select “UPDATE HOUSEHOLD” if you’ve recently moved and need to reset the Household location for your Disney+ subscription. These selections will require a one-time passcode that’s sent to the email address associated with the account.

These features and capabilities are now available in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region after launching in select markets over the summer.

Airtel’s AI-based Spam Detection System to Combat Junk Calls in India

0

Airtel is deploying AI to combat spam calls in India, which has been a persistent issue across the country and requires a widespread solution. Airtel’s AI-based spam detection system is being touted as India’s first AI-driven, network-based spam filtering system, which can process an impressive 1 trillion records in real time.

Airtel’s AI-based Spam Detection System: What is it?

The feature will provide Airtel customers with real-time alerts for suspected spam calls and text messages, automatically enabled for all users at no extra charge. Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel stated that the telecom company spent 12 months developing the new spam detection system. “Spam has become a menace for customers,” he remarked.

The new system utilizes a dual-layer protection mechanism, filtering communications between the network and IT systems. According to the company, Airtel’s data scientists designed a algorithm that evaluates various factors, including caller usage patterns, call frequency, and duration, in real time.

This AI-powered solution processes an astounding 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls daily, equating to 1 trillion records analyzed in real-time. Airtel’s system has successfully identified 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMSes that are circulating every day, the company reported.

The AI system also analyzes content for malicious links, cross-checking them against a centralized database of blacklisted URLs. This added layer of security is designed to prevent users from unintentionally clicking on suspicious links. As per the telco, the system can also identify irregularities, such as frequent changes, which are often signs of fraudulent activity.
