Google Pixel 9a India Launch Date Tipped

0

The Google Pixel 9a India launch date has been tipped. The upcoming A-series Pixel device from Google has been leaked multiple times before and renders for the device have left little to imagine as to what it is set to offer. Here’s everything you’d want to know about the upcoming launch from Google in India.

As per tipster Yogesh Brar, the Google Pixel 9a India launch date has been set for March 20, which is a day after the device would be revealed by Google globally. The March 19 date for the Pixel 9a global launch has also been tipped once before. The new leak essentially confirms that the device is merely two weeks away from launch. Brar also mentions, “Another year of exorbitant pricing…,” which suggests that Pixel 9a could be overpriced in India compared to the specs it will offer.

The Pixel 8a was launched in India for Rs 52,999 and that was our major complaint with the device when we reviewed it. While the device itself performed well, it was the pricing that put us off and made the Pixel 8a look weaker in front of the competition. We hope Google fixes this with the Pixel 9a but as of now, it seems Google may adopt the same poor pricing strategy as last year.

Pixel 9a renders have already been shared by multiple sources in the past, and as per those, the 9a will come in Peony, Iris, Obsidian and Porcelain colours. According to the leaked renders, the front bezel looks as thick as last year’s model, even though it is uniform on all sides. The camera bar is kind of gone and has been replaced with a smaller pill that’s embedded into the back panel of the device.

According to rumours, the Pixel 9a sports a 6.2-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a Resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels, and a 120Hz Refresh Rate. Further, the display gets a 20:9 aspect ratio, up to 2700 nits peak brightness, Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and 430 ppi of pixel density.

The phone is powered by Google’s Tensor G4 SoC, along with 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM. You will get up to 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It runs on Android 15 and will get 7 years of Android OS upgrades, security updates, and regular Feature Drops.

Pixel 9a comes with a dual rear camera setup, consisting of a 48MP f/1.7 Samsung GN8 sensor paired with a 13MP f/2.2 IMX712 ultra-wide angle sensor. On the front, there is a 13MP f/2.2 Sony IMX712 sensor as well. It should pack a 5100mAh battery with 23W fast wired charging and Qi-certified fast wireless charging at up to 7.5W speeds.

Acer Smartphones Launching in India on March 25

0

Acer smartphones India launch has been set for later this month on the 25th. While Acer hasn’t detailed the devices’ specifications or design, the devices are expected to be budget offerings. It was announced last year that Indkal Technologies, in a partnership with Acer Incorporated, will launch Acer-branded smartphones in India that will be locally designed, manufactured, and distributed.

The teaser for launch of Acer smartphones in India went live on Amazon, confirming that the devices will be sold through the e-commerce platform. The promotional image showcases an astronaut drifting in space against a dark backdrop, encircled by a glowing ring. “The Next Horizon” is boldly displayed alongside the Acer logo. The teaser also confirms the launch date, which is March 25.

At last year’s announcement, the company stated that Acer smartphones would be priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 50,000, with the goal of launching premium-quality products for Indian consumers. These smartphones would feature strong specifications, advanced hardware, and the latest software technologies. While the details of the devices haven’t been disclosed through any teasers, Asus India listed two devices on its website earlier in January.

The Acerone Liquid S162E4 and Acerone Liquid S272E4 smartphones were listed on the official Acer India website under the Acerpure branding. These budget-friendly phones were speculated to feature a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, an display, and a 5000mAh battery. However, it remains unclear whether the company will launch these specific models.

Acer smartphones will have to face tough competition from established players in the market, such as the likes of iQOO, Nothing, Vivo, Samsung, and more. These brands have already captured a significant share in the market and it would be interesting to witness how Acer plans to make a place for itself in the crowded smartphone market in India.

YouTube Premium Lite Plan Announced for a ‘Mostly Ad-Free’ Experience

0

YouTube Premium Lite plan has been announced in the US with more countries to follow soon. The Lite version of the YouTube Premium plan brings a downgraded experience over the regular plan but also comes with a cheaper price tag. Here are all the details of the newly announced YouTube Premium plan.

YouTube Premium Lite gives viewers a new, more affordable way to enjoy most videos on YouTube ad-free for $7.99 (approx Rs 695) per month. “In the coming weeks, we’ll also make Premium Lite available to all users in our current pilot countries – Thailand, Germany, and Australia,” said YouTube in a blog post. This expansion comes as YouTube Music and Premium reaches over 125 million subscribers, including trials globally, the streaming platform noted.

YouTube highlights it has been testing Premium Lite to make sure it offers the right balance of features and benefits for those viewers who want to watch most videos ad-free – whether it’s gaming, comedy, cooking or learning. For users who want ad-free music on YouTube and YouTube Music, plus offline and background play, YouTube recommends the Premium plan, as the Lite version doesn’t offer these features.

Google will continue to expand its Premium Lite pilots to additional countries this year and introduce more ways for our users to get the most from their subscriptions. There’s no word on whether the plan will launch in India.

Back in August, YouTube increased the Premium plan prices in India by up to 58%. The individual Prepaid plan went up from Rs 139/month to Rs 159/month. The Quarterly prepaid plan for an individual, which cost Rs 399, increased to Rs 459. The price of the family plan increased to Rs 299 from Rs 189. Finally, the annual plan that cost Rs 1,290 earlier now costed Rs 1,490.

Google Introduces AI Mode in Search, Gemini 2.0 in AI Overviews

0

Google is debuting new AI features to make the search experience on its platform better than ever, including a new AI Mode in Search as well as upgaded AI Overviews with Gemini 2.0. Moreover, Google has expanded access of AI Overviews to teens and is allowing users to experience AI Overviews without signing in.

AI Mode in Search

Google debuts AI mode

Google has debuted AI Mode in Search as a part of an early experiment in Labs. This new Search mode expands what AI Overviews can do with more advanced reasoning, thinking and multimodal capabilities so you can get help with even your toughest questions. “You can ask anything on your mind and get a helpful AI-powered response with the ability to go further with follow-up questions and helpful web links,” said Google.

Using a custom version of Gemini 2.0, AI Mode is particularly helpful for questions that need further exploration, comparisons and reasoning. You can ask nuanced questions that might have previously taken multiple searches — like exploring a new concept or comparing detailed options — and get a helpful AI-powered response with links to learn more.

It brings together advanced model capabilities with “Google’s best-in-class information systems, and it’s built right into Search.” With the feature, you can not only access high-quality web content, but also tap into fresh, real-time sources like the Knowledge Graph, info about the real world, and shopping data for billions of products. It uses a “query fan-out” technique, issuing multiple related searches concurrently across subtopics and multiple data sources and then brings those results together to provide an easy-to-understand response. This approach helps you access more breadth and depth of information than a traditional search on Google.

“As with any early-stage AI product, we won’t always get it right.”

Google

For instance, if you ask, “what’s the difference in sleep tracking features between a smart ring, smartwatch and tracking mat,” the custom version of Gemini 2.0 uses a multistep approach to make a plan, conduct searches to find information and adjust the plan based on what it finds.

If you want to know more, you can ask a follow up question, like “what happens to your heart rate during deep sleep” to quickly get an easy-to-digest response with links to relevant content.

After getting feedback from trusted testers, Google is expanding access to AI Mode in Search with a limited, opt-in experience in Labs. Google will begin inviting Google One AI Premium subscribers to be the first to try out this experience in Labs.

Further, Google notes, “We aim to show an AI-powered response as much as possible, but in cases where we don’t have high confidence in helpfulness and quality, the response will be a set of web search results. As with any early-stage AI product, we won’t always get it right.”

“We’re already working on new capabilities and updates, like adding more visual responses with images and video, richer formatting, new ways to get to helpful web content and much more,” it added.

AI Overviews Expansion

Google has also launched Gemini 2.0 for AI Overviews in the U.S. to help with harder questions, starting with coding, advanced math and multimodal queries, with more on the way. With Gemini 2.0’s advanced capabilities, it is able to provide faster and higher quality responses and show AI Overviews more often for these types of queries.

Plus, it is also rolling out to more people, where teens can now use AI Overviews, and users will no longer need to sign in to get access.

Samsung is Finally Making This One Big Design Change in Galaxy Z Flip 7

0

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 renders were leaked a couple of weeks back and least to say, they weren’t as impressive as one would expect because Samsung was once again opting for a safe route by not refreshing the design. However, a new leak has surfaced online that suggests Samsung is making this one big design change in Galaxy Z Flip 7 which should appeal to everyone.

Android Headlines, the publication that earlier leaked the Flip 7 renders, has published the corrected renders for the device based on new information from its source, OnLeaks. As per the new images, Samsung is making a big design change in Galaxy Z Flip 7 with an enitrely new cover display that goes around the two camera sensors, similar to Motorola’s Razr Ultra series flip foldable phones.

Galaxy z Flip 7 corrected render

Samsung seems to be finally ditching the folder-shaped cover display for a bigger panel and this seems to be the most perfect way to implement a cover screen. Not only does it makes the panel bigger, but also makes it more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The cover screen now goes to edge instead of just dodging the two lenses. This adds more screen estate which may result in Samsung developing new features built specifically for the new design. Instead of the originally reported 3.6 inches, the display size will be around 4 inches.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will continue to be offered with 12GB of RAM, and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The report adds that Samsung still doesn’t have a Processor of choice for the Flip 7, which means it could either end up using its own rumoured Exynos 2500 or could opt for the safer bet – the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Samsung may have also upgraded the hinge on the Flip 7 which could result in a lesser visible crease compared to the Flip 6, according to some reports online.

Mid-Ranger Battle: Nothing Phone (3a) Pro and Vivo V50 5G

0

Nothing Phone (3a) Pro and Vivo V50 5G are two smartphones battling for the crown of the best mid-ranger in India and while the two phones have drastically different specifications, the only similarity between the two is their pricing. Here’s a comparison between the two devices to help you pick one.

Display

The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro sports a 6.77-inch AMOLED FHD+ screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2392 pixels, HDR10+, 2160Hz PWM dimming, up to 3000 nits peak brightness, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Nothing Phone 3a Pro

Vivo V50 5G features a 6.78-inch quad-curved AMOLED Display with a full-HD+ 2392 x 1080 Pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, punch-hole cutout, 20:9 aspect ratio, HDR 10+, 4500 nits local peak brightness and 1300 nits max global brightness, 387 ppi, along with 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Both the devices have similarly sized displays but the V50 5G does a better job than Nothing’s Phone (3a) Pro in terms of brightness so we’ll give it the win in this department. Further, you’ll have to make a decision between a flat display on the Phone (3a) Pro and a quad-curved one on the Vivo V50 5G.

Software & Performance

Under the hood, the Nothing device is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 mobile platform, paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. It runs on Nothing OS 3.1 based on Android 15 and will get OS updates till Android 18 along with 6 years of security patches.

The V50 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, and gets up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The device runs on Android 15-based FunTouch OS 15. Vivo promises to offer 3 major Android upgrades to the device and up to 4 years of security updates.

Vivo V50 5G Launched

Between the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro and Vivo V50 5G, the latter has a slightly better chip in terms of numbers, even if real world usage may not be drastically different. Nothing’s devices takes the win when we talk of software, not only because it’ll offer updates for longer, but also because Nothing OS offers a far superior experience than Vivo’s FunTouch OS on the basis of our experience with previous devices from the two brands. The V50 5G does offer a variant with 512GB storage if you are into that but that model is far more expensive than Nothing Phone (3a) Pro’s top-end 12GB + 256GB version.

Battery and Cameras

On the front, the Nothing device gets a 50-megapixel f/2.2 Samsung selfie camera. The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro has packs a triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 50-megapixel f/1.88 OIS-assisted Samsung primary camera, a 50-megapixel f/2.5 Sony periscope telephoto sensor with 3x Optical Zoom and OIS, and an 8-megapixel f/2.2 Sony ultra-wide angle camera. The device packs a 5000mAh battery with 50W Fast charging support.

The Vivo smartphone has a 50-megapixel f/2.0 selfie camera with autofocus. The rear camera setup consists of an OIS-assisted 50-megapixel f/1.88 primary camera and a 50-megapixel f/2.0 ultra-wide angle lens, both of which are backed by Zeiss optics. It packs a 6000mAh battery with 90W fast charging.

In terms of optics, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro is clearly the winner due to the extra periscope lens but if you want better ultra-wide angle shots, Vivo’s V50 5G does it better. For battery, Vivo’s device is the obvious choice due to the larger battery and faster charging speed.

Verdict

The Phone (3a) Pro costs Rs 29,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model, Rs 31,999 for the 8GB + 256GB trim, and Rs 33,999 for the 12GB + 256GB version. The Vivo V50 5G is available in an 8GB + 128GB trim that costs Rs 34,999, an 8GB + 256GB model priced at Rs 36,999, and the top-end 12GB + 512GB version that costs Rs 40,999.

The Vivo V50 5G, quite evidently, wins the on-paper specs battle with the superior display, a better chip, a larger battery with faster charging speeds, along with higher storage capacity as well. However, it’s the software experience, the price advantage, and some extra key features it has which the V50 5G lacks, such as NFC, that keeps the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro still in the competition.

It offers a smoother and slightly more stable software interface along with a better rear camera setup and also Nothing-exclusive glyh lights (if you are into that). Further, the Rs 5,000 price gap is a notable one for offering nearly the same value as the Vivo V50 5G which could further make it a better choice for a lot of users.

Nothing Phone (3a) Pro: Should You Buy it Over the Phone (3a)?

0

Nothing has announced the release of the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro globally, including in India, and the device is priced starting at Rs 29,999. The Phone (3a) Pro is the first Pro phone in the brand’s A-series devices and aims to live up to its name with best-in-class cameras, software, and more. However, its pricing lies in quite a competitive segment in the Indian smartphone market and more so, its own sibling, the Phone (3a), costs Rs 5,000 cheaper. Here we are to help you decide whether you should buy the Phone (3a) Pro over the Phone (3a) or opt for the cheaper option.

Nothing Phone (3a) and the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro are quite similar smartphones but they differ in two main areas, and those are design and cameras. While we’ll come to the differences, let’s first discuss the similarities. The two devices get the same display, and that’s a 6.77-inch AMOLED FHD+ screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2392 pixels, support for HDR10+, 2160Hz PWM dimming, up to 3000 nits peak brightness, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and a 120Hz refresh rate.

They are powered by the same chip — Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. They also get the same amount of storage, up to 256GB, but the Pro gets a 12GB model while the standard one has 8GB only. That might not make for a huge difference for an average consumer but for those who do a lot of multitasking, it’d be noticeable.

They have the same battery, a 5000mAh cell with identical 50W fast wired charging. Connectivity options on the smartphones include 5G SA/NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.4, GPS (L1 + L5), USB Type-C, and NFC. There’s an in-display optical fingerprint sensor for security. The devices run on Nothing OS 3.1 based on Android 15 and will get OS updates till Android 18 along with 4 years of security patches.

The devices also sport the same amount of glyph lights and related features with the same Essential Space button on the right spine.

Nothing Phone (3a) series

Coming back to the design, the two devices have their own identities. While the (3a) has a more symmetrical design that carries forward the Phone (2a) design and looks like a true successor, the (3a) Pro tries to break that design similarly and have a distinct look you may not have seen in any other smartphone. The asymmetrical design choice is debatable and may not be everyone’s cup of tea. While it sure will turn heads, it may not be due to the rigt reasons. In total, we feel, the Phone (3a) sports a better look that stands true to its original style.

Speaking of the cameras, on the front, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro gets a 50-megapixel f/2.2 Samsung selfie camera. The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro has launched with a triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 50-megapixel f/1.88 OIS-assisted Samsung primary camera, a 50-megapixel f/2.5 Sony periscope telephoto sensor with 3x Optical Zoom and OIS, and an 8-megapixel f/2.2 Sony ultra-wide angle camera.

On the front, the Phone (3a) gets a 32-megapixel f/2.2 selfie camera. The Nothing Phone (3a) has launched with a triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 50-megapixel f/1.88 OIS-assisted primary camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and an 8-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera.

While the Phone (3a) is definitive upgrade over the (2a) in the camera department, Nothing gave the Pro a better telephoto lens to give it extra leverage and appeal over the vanilla version. The periscope lens on the Pro also looks better on paper with the 3x optical zoom (versus 2x on (3a)) along with higher in-sensor 60x (30x on (3a)). For those without specific camera expectations, the Phone (3a)’s camera system should be sufficient for the average consumer.

Yes, there will be differences due to the better hardware and different sensor on the Pro but in our experience with smartphones, the difference shouldn’t be as huge and definitely not a deal-breaker.

The Phone (3a) starts at Rs 24,999 and the Pro starts at Rs 29,999. For most users, we feel the Nothing Phone (3a) will do justice while the Pro can only be considered if you don’t have budget constraints, have an eye for the unique design, and looking for specific results with the periscope lens.
