How To Enable And Use Private Space On Google Pixel Phones Running Android 15?

Google wrapped up its I/O 2024 annual event a couple of weeks back and introduced the Android 15 Beta 2 for Pixel smartphones which brought a new feature with it called Private Space. While its a clear inspiration of Samsung’s Secure Folder feature, the new Private Space on Pixel devices running Android 15 Beta 2 or later allows for enhanced privacy for users if they want to store their personal stuff under an additional layer of security, away from prying eyes. Here’s how you can turn on the feature.

What is Private Space in Android 15?

Private Space allows users to create a separate space on their device where they can keep sensitive apps away from prying eyes, under an additional layer of authentication. It uses a separate user profile. When private space is locked by the user, the profile is paused, i.e. the apps are no longer active.

The user can choose to use the device lock or a separate lock factor for private space. Private space apps show up in a separate container in the launcher, and are hidden from the recents view, notifications, settings, and from other apps when private space is locked. User generated and downloaded content (media, files) and accounts are separated between the private space and the primary space. The system sharesheet and the photo picker can be used to give apps access to content across spaces when private space is unlocked.

How To Enable Private Space?

The steps to enable Private Space on Pixel devices are as follows. However, do note that you need to have Android 15 Beta 2 or later installed on your device to get this feature to work. If you want to install the beta update, we have a guide for that too. Coming back to the steps to enable Private Space:

Step 1

How to use private space

Open the Settings on your Pixel device and head over to the “Security and privacy” section.

Step 2

Private space android 15 pixel

Scroll down and tap on “Private Space”. Scan your fingerprint next.

Step 3

Now, click on the “Set up” button at the bottom right.

Step 4

Wait for the process to finish. Once done, tap on “Got it”. Next, add the Google Account of your choice.

Step 5

Then, you need to choose a new lock for your Private space. It can be a different one from your regular screen lock or the same. Once you have set it up, tap on “Done”.

Now, you have successfully created your Private Space. You can access it by scrolling down to the bottom in the and then tapping on “Private”. Not only that, but you can also hide it from the app drawer by going to Private Space settings. That way, you’ll only be able to access it by typing Private Space in the search bar.

Phone Link For Windows To Allow Users To Copy Text From Android Phone’s Photos

0

Microsoft Phone Link that helps users sync data between Android and Windows PCs will soon be gaining a new OCR feature for photos store on the Android smartphone so users can easily copy the text in such photos. This will make it convenient for users to copy text from their Android phone’s photos without having to transfer them to Windows first.

Microsoft Windows 11 already has the same feature but via the Snipping tool, which means users have had to transfer their photos to Windows first before they can copy text from the images. However, now, with the latest update to the Phone link app, Android users can directly copy text in their phone’s photos on their Windows PC (via Windows Central).

The feature is currently restricted to users in the Release Preview channel meaning it’s ready to rollout to the general public soon. Once you open the photo of your choice on the Windows PC via the Phone link app, the feature shows up as a “text” icon. Tapping the icon will initiate optical character recognition, where you can then select specific text, highlight all text, or copy all text.

The Phone link app is getting more useful in a gradual manner as Microsoft keeps adding features for user’s convenience. Meanwhile, Microsoft has also made available its Copilot Beta AI companion in Telegram in the form of a bot.

Copilot Beta can be accessed via both Telegram on iOS and Android alongside on Telegram for Web. Microsoft also made a microsite detailing the features of Copilot Beta on Telegram while stating, “Meet your new everyday AI companion: Copilot, powered by GPT, now on Telegram. Engage in seamless conversations, access information, and enjoy a smarter chat experience, all within Telegram.”

Motorola Moto G85 5G: What We Know So Far

0

Motorola debuted the G84 earlier last year and a follow-up device is expected soon, as most of the details of the Moto G85 5G have now been leaked. The leaked details suggest that the handset would be a significant upgrade over the Moto G84 5G. Here are all the details that have been leaked about the Moto G85 5G so far.

Moto G85 5G: Design

As shared by Evan Blass on X, the handset can be seen having a design that resembles the recently launched Edge 50 Fusion but with a different set of colours. This suggests that Motorola is planning to overhaul its G-series handset with new design that leans more towards its Edge series handsets. It will further be available in three colours in total, including green, purple and grey.

Moto G85 5G: Specs

The specs we know so far for the G85 5G include a 6.67-inch pOLED display with a 120 refresh rate and a 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution. Aside from that, some reports suggested that the handset would have the Snapdragon 4 Gen 3 SoC but another recent leak contradicts it, and says that it will have the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 under the hood. This would be paired with up to 12 gigs of and 256 gigs of storage.

At the rear, it’ll sport a 50MP primary camera like its predecessor with an f/1.79 paired with an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor. On top of that, the Moto G85 is said to equip a 32MP front-facing camera. It’ll be backed by a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging capability. The device should run on 14 out of the box.

Moto G85 5G: Price, India availability

The availability of the handset in India hasn’t been confirmed as of yet. However, one can indeed expect it to debut in India once it becomes available internationally, considering the brand launched the G84 5G in the country last year. DealNTech spotted the price of the upcoming Moto G85 5G on a European retail website, where it was listed to have a price tag of EUR 300 (approx Rs 27,000) for the 12GB + 256GB trim. It could launch in the global markets sometime in June 2024.

Google Chrome for iPhone & iPad Now Allows Menu Bar and Carousel Customisation

0

Google for iPhone and iPad are receiving a new update that introduces the ability to customize the menu bar and the carousel for an enhanced and personalised browsing experience. The new customisable menu bar is being made available via an update for the browser that carries version number 125.

Spotted by 9to5Google, the new update for Google Chrome on iPad and iPhone allows you to customise the menu bar via a new “Customise Menu” button that can be found when you scroll down to the bottom in the said menu. For those unaware, the menu bar is the same menu that appears when you tap on the three-dot overflow button at the right corner.

Previously, this menu showed icons that were used the most by the user under the section labelled “Show frequently used items first.” Now, you can turn it off by toggling the “Smart Sort Menu Bar.” Instead, users can now completely remove everything from the carousel except for Settings and Site Information. Icons you can remove include Bookmarks, Downloads, History, Manager, Reading List, Recent Tabs, Track Price, and What’s New.

As for the Actions List, options which you can rearrange or remove include:

  • Follow
  • Add to Bookmarks
  • Add to Reading List
  • Clear Browsing Data
  • Translate
  • Request Desktop Site
  • Find in Page…
  • Zoom Text…

There’s no information on whether the feature would also make it to Android, but its a necessary one for Chrome on as the same menu can stretch across the whole screen length of the device as it has a lot of options which many may not be using on a daily basis. Moreover, they could be a bit overwhelming for new users.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Review: A Better Version Of Galaxy M55 5G?

Samsung launched the Galaxy M55 5G in India back in April and about two months later, we have the Galaxy F55 5G, which is basically the same device but with a new material for the back panel. We have already reviewed the Galaxy M55 5G in detail and our reactions were mixed. We are now giving a first look at the Galaxy F55 5G to find out whether it’s any better than the Galaxy M55 5G and if you should buy it.

Galaxy F55 5G: Price, Availability, Offers

The Galaxy F55 5G is priced at Rs 26,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model, Rs 29,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model and Rs 32,999 for the 12GB +256GB trim. Buyers can get a Rs 2,000 bank cashback when using HDFC cards to make the purchase on Flipkart. You can also buy it from Samsung online store and other retailers.

There’s also a launch offer running from May 27 till May 31, where Galaxy F55 5G buyers can opt for a 45W fast charger for Rs 499 or the Galaxy Fit 3 at Rs 1,999 alongside the purchase of the handset. The device will go on an early sale today at 7 PM IST.

Galaxy F55 5G: Design

Design-wise, the Galaxy F55 5G basically has the same look as the M55 5G but with a new vegan leather back panel that’s available in two shades, orange and black. While the black has a more classy and stealthy look, the orange grabs more eyes and is flashier.

While everyone has their own preference, we loved the orange more due to the more unique aesthetic. Compared to the Galaxy M55 5G, the F55 definitely feels more premium in the hand due to the leather finish. The M55 5G has a matte finish but the in-hand feel is inferior over the F55 due to a plasticky texture.

The frame on the orange model is gold in colour and it has the same texture as the M55. The buttons feel decent when clicked while the remain poor. The stereo speakers are loud and have a treble-driven sound.

Galaxy f55 5g display review

As for the display, it was one of the strongest points of the M55 5G and so it is on the F55 too, apart from the premium looking design. The 6.6-inch 120Hz panel has a full-HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels), dragontrail glass protection and 1000 nits peak brightness.

In terms of colors, the display is vibrant with excellent viewing angles. It gets sufficiently bright under sunlight while the text looks sharp. Thanks to the vivid color profile and deep blacks, video content on Netflix looks exceptional.

The bezels are minimal, and the 120Hz enhances the overall appeal. Additionally, it features an optical in-display fingerprint sensor that, despite being positioned a bit low, works effectively.

While we mentioned that the Galaxy M55 5G has the best display in the range, we can’t say the same for the F55 5G as the Poco F6 5G took that crown when we recently reviewed it.

Galaxy F55 5G: Performance & Software

The Galaxy F55 5G gets the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 under the hood and the competition is already way ahead in this area. The Realme GT 6T has the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 while the Poco F6 5G has an even better Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor.

With that said, if you are into gaming, you needn’t even look at the Galaxy F55 5G. Moreover, it tends to warm up quickly which is another disadvantage for regular gamers. However, the heat doesn’t feel as intense as it does on the M55 5G, most likely due to a different finish.

Galaxy f55 5g May security patch

Performance-wise, we faced quite a few stutters on the Galaxy M55 5G and we are happy to report that the Galaxy F55 5G has solved that for the most part. The same also got solved to some extent on the M55 5G post a recent update but the animations are still not completely stutter-free, both on the M55 and the F55. If you try to put it through its paces, the Galaxy F55 5G would still struggle in handling some of the tasks smoothly.

Galaxy f55 5g software review

The feature set is vast, as it usually is with One UI-powered smartphones and One 6.1 doubles down on that with newer and more fluid animations, at least on the flagships from Samsung. What’s not there on flagships and is there on the F55 5G is pre-installed bloatware that will have to be uninstalled manually, including apps like PhonePe, Snapchat, MapMyIndia and more.

As we mentioned, the animations aren’t the smoothest on these Galaxy mid-rangers despite running on One UI 6.1 but the extended software support of 4 major upgrades is what keeps the software experience still recommendable on the Galaxy F55 5G. The device also received the May 2024 security patch a few days back which is appreciable.

Connectivity performance with Jio 5G SIM, 5Ghz Wi-Fi, and was decent without any issues as such.

Galaxy F55 5G: Battery backup

The handset gets a 5000mAh battery with 45W support. You can get it through a day worth of use and get around 5.5 to 6 hours of screen-on time at a stretch. Overall, the backup remained similar to the M55.

My usage mostly remained limited to with some calling, browsing social media and the internet, chatting and other usual tasks. With heavier workloads such as when gaming even casually or using navigation, the battery backup tends to drop. Overall, the battery life was average and we have seen other smartphones in this price range do much better.

Galaxy F55 5G: Cameras

Galaxy f55 5g review

The Galaxy F55 5G has a triple rear camera setup, including a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide angle f/2.2 sensor, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro sensor. At the front, it gets a 50MP f/2.4 sensor.

Galaxy f55 5g camera review

The Galaxy F55 5G captures detailed and sharp photos with its main sensor, but the colors are a letdown as they are quite inconsistent. They appear unnatural and faded in some conditions but look fine in others. The dynamic range is above average but isn’t very appealing.

Regarding the ultra-wide angle shots, the colors are similarly lackluster, and the detailing and sharpness suffer. While distortion is well controlled, the overall photo quality falls short of the usual pleasing standards seen in Samsung cameras. The dynamic range also goes for a toss in these shots.

The selfies from 50MP front-facing sensor are slightly better than what we saw with Galaxy M55 5G. The edge detection is on point, and even the skin tones are handled better. As for the detailing, the levels stay high which is, again, superior over the M55 5G selfies.

Portrait photos have good edge detection and detailing, as seen in the shot above. However, same as M55 5G, the macro shots from the third sensor on the Galaxy F55 5G are disappointing. They lack sharpness, appear smudgy, and the colors fall short of accuracy.

Shots clicked under artificial lighting have decent detailing, while the colours are vibrant, in comparison to how they were a mismatch to reality in the Galaxy M55 5G. Low-light shots look overly soft and unappealing.

Photos taken in complete darkness lack detail, but activating makes a significant difference. The entire scene becomes more visible and gains much better detail.

WhatsApp On iOS May Ditch Default Green Theme, Could Soon Get More Chat Themes

0

WhatsApp has always tried to be the more functional and practical app rather than being customisable, unlike Telegram which excels in both areas. However, that will soon change as a leak suggests that WhatsApp is working on multi-coloured chat themes for its iOS app, thereby ditching its own default green theme which the app has had for years at this point.

As per WABetaInfo’s findings, WhatsApp is working on a chat themes feature for its iOS app where it will be adding new colours for users to explore. The feature was discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.11.10.70 update from the TestFlight app. The chat app will get a section where users will be able to choose the default chat theme of the app.

WhatsApp will not only allow to change the overall theme, but also specific options such as the ability to change the colour of the branding or the colours of the chat bubbles. Once available, it will be possible for users to select a new colour and wallpaper of the default chat theme from a range of five different colours, including purple, pink, blue, black and the app’ default green, as seen in the screenshot shared by the feature tracker. Upon selecting a colour, it will automatically become the default chat theme, adjusting both the wallpaper and bubble colour accordingly.

Whatsapp ios chat themes

WABetaInfo notes that that selecting a default chat theme will only affect your own interface and won’t alter the appearance of the chats for the user on the other end, like how it does in Instagram chats. There’s no word on when this feature would be made available and whether it will also be available for Android. Considering it is in its final stages, it should soon appear for WhatsApp beta users on iOS.

WhatsApp recently also revamped its user interface on both iOS and Android versions of its app. The redesign moves the tabs from the top to the bottom navigation bar, that now consists of the ChatsUpdatesCommunities and Calls sections. The green header has gone white while the WhatsApp branding at the top is now green in colour. The search bar has changed into a proper box instead of the magnifying glass icon. Moreover, one can also trigger the new Meta AI via the search box, as it was seen in a recent beta update.
