Reliance Jio extends Prime subscription for free for one year, Rs 99 for new users

Existing Jio Prime users will be able to avail one year of complimentary Prime membership by downloading and enrolling in the MyJio app.

Reliance Jio on Friday announced that it will continue to offer Prime membership for free for its existing users as part of a complimentary extension. The news comes a day before the annual one-time membership, which brought Jio its 160-odd userbase, was set to expire. While existing users get another year of Prime subscription for free, new users will still be charged Rs 99 to be able to access the new benefits inside the Prime program, which we haven’t been told much about.

In a statement issued to media, Jio said “All Jio PRIME members who have subscribed to the exclusive membership benefits until 31st March 2018 will get another year of complimentary PRIME benefits at no additional fee. Jio deeply values its loyal PRIME members and will continue to deliver additional benefits and superior value to these founding members.”

If you wish to avail the offer, you can download the latest MyJio on your phone and express your interest to get the complimentary subscription for the next 12 months by clicking on the extension button. The offer hasn’t gone live at the moment but we expect it to be made available tomorrow or the next week. Remember, the free membership is for those users who claimed the scheme last year. Non-Prime users, as well as new customers, will again have to pay their Rs 99 to access the tempting data offers that are available on a regular basis.

Jio first offered its Prime membership in April last year for a nominal fee of Rs 99 which remains the same for new customers who are currently enrolling for the same. In addition to offering more data, Jio Prime allows unlimited free voice calls, and access to Jio’s plethora of apps. A Prime member will be able to access 550+ live TV channels from JioTV, 6000+ movie titles through JioCinema and unlimited music from JioMusic app as part of the extension offer.

The Indian telecom giant recently partnered with HMD to launch Nokia 1 with a Rs 2,200 cashback offer that is bought by the end of March. The company also announced a new JioFi 4G hotspot device a week ago allowing downloads at up to 150Mbps speeds.
