The Updates page is chronologically organised, and you can view your incoming activity from today, yesterday, this week, this month, last month, and beyond.

Samsung One UI 7 Beta for Galaxy S24 Series Launches Today: Report

0

Update 05/12/2024: Samsung has officially announced the launch of One UI 7 Beta for Galaxy S24 series devices in multiple countries including India.

Original Story Below

All eyes are now set on the Samsung One UI 7 Beta as the Korean brand gears up to unveil a major overhaul to its skin in years. Multiple reports have emerged online suggesting that the One UI 7 Beta is coming later today, December 5, for the Galaxy S24 series.

As per Max Jambor on X, who has been a reliable source for leaks in the past, Samsung One UI 7 Beta is going to be released later today, December 5, for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. As per the information he received from Samsung PR, Germany will be one of the first countries where the beta will be made available, likely alongside Korea and the USA, given Samsung’s history of launching beta versions in these countries first.

The second phase countries should likely include India where the second beta will be served as the first one. However, the brand hasn’t officially confirmed anything so far, and looking at how the One UI 7 Beta has been delayed multiple times in the past, we also can’t say anything for certain regarding its availability in other countries, yet.

A separate report on X includes screenshots of a user’s chat with Samsung support, where the support team shared an image of the One UI 7 Beta program banner. This banner typically appears in the Samsung Members for users to sign up for the beta program when it commences. Both these reports suggest that the beta is indeed coming later today and per leaks, should bring a new set of features, a new quick settings panel, a new lock screen bar, newer customisation options, and much more.

Samsung already confirmed earlier this year that the beta is coming by the end of 2024 and the full launch will take place alongside the Galaxy S25 series next month, likely on January 22. We’ll update the article once Samsung officially announces the One UI 7 Beta, so keep an eye out for it.

Xiaomi May Provide Monthly Android Updates from 2025

0

Xiaomi seems to be working hard to up its game in the updates space. Starting in 2025, Xiaomi may provide monthly Android updates to users, matching the of brands like Samsung and OnePlus. However, this isn’t confirmed yet, as it is still a mere possibility.

Xiaomi Vice President Alvin T hinted on X that Xiaomi may provide monthly Android updates beginning in 2025. While this isn’t a concrete commitment, it’s the strongest indication that Xiaomi is considering more frequent software updates for its customers.

In a subsequent post, while replying to a user, Alvin set users’ expectations right, stating he doesn’t want to “overpromise.” However, his comments suggest that progress is being made internally, as he mentioned that the team will share more details once plans are finalized.

Xiaomi seems to be working on catching up to competitors in the updates space. Brands like Samsung and OnePlus are consistent in providing monthly Android updates to not only their flagships but also their mid-ranger. In the case of Xiaomi, the company presently rolls out updates within 90 days, which is certainly higher than competitors.

In related news to the brand, the company also seems to be working on its own mobile processor. Mass production of the chip designed in-house at Xiaomi is expected to begin in 2025. The 2025 timeline highlights Xiaomi’s ambition to join the growing ranks of tech giants investing in semiconductors, a critical area of focus for Beijing in its broader tech rivalry with the US.

Xiaomi’s processor would go beyond just helping the brand in the smartphone segment. The report says that developing in-house chipmaking expertise can help the company’s efforts toward making smarter and better-connected EVs, a segment it entered earlier this year with its first electric four-wheeler called Xiaomi SU7.

OnePlus 13R Detailed Specs Leak: Expect Camera and Battery Upgrades

0

Detailed specs for the OnePlus 13R have surfaced online, suggesting that the device will have major camera and battery upgrades over this year’s OnePlus 12R. While the brand has yet to finalise a launch timeline, it is expected that the device may launch alongside the OnePlus 13 in January.

The OnePlus 13R detailed specs leak comes from 91mobiles, suggesting the device will feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K (1264 x 2780 pixels) with a 120Hz and 450 PPI. While these display specs remain the same as 12R, the brightness values could be higher than before.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will power the device, paired with 12GB and 256GB storage. However, more variants may be made available at the time of launch. As for the battery, the device will pack a 6000mAh battery, up from 5500mAh in the OnePlus 12R, coupled with 80W fast wired charging, which is a downgrade from the 100W charging found in the 12R.

As for optics, the device will have a triple-camera setup at the back, including a 50MP f/1.8 primary sensor, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 50MP f/2.0 tertiary sensor, which will likely be a telephoto sensor—a major upgrade over the 12R’s 2MP macro sensor. There will also be a 16MP f/2.4 front camera.

The smartphone will run OxygenOS 15.0 based on 15 out of the box. Other features the device will have include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, 5.4, NFC, USB Type-C, an in-display optical fingerprint sensor, and an remote control. While it’s not mentioned in the report, the device should likely retain the stereo speaker setup from the 12R.

The OnePlus 13R will likely be a rebranded OnePlus Ace 5, which is confirmed to launch in China on December 12. Speaking of the global launch, we might see that happen next month alongside the launch of the OnePlus 13.
