OnePlus Nord 4 5G May be Priced Lower Than its Predecessor in India

0

OnePlus is all set to conduct its Summer Launch event on July 16 in Milan, Italy. The brand is expected to debut a new Nord series device at the event, dubbed OnePlus Nord 4 5G which will succeed last year’s Nord 3. The Indian pricing, specifications, as well as the design of the OnePlus Nord 4 5G have now been leaked in advance and interestingly, the device may be priced lower than its predecessor, at least in India.

OnePlus Nord 4 5G: India Price Leak

The OnePlus Nord 4 5G, as per a tipster on X, is said to have a price tag of Rs 31,999 in India. The Nord 3 5G launched with a price tag of Rs 33,999 in India last year, which suggests OnePlus may opt for an aggressive pricing strategy for the handset this time. It is also possible that this price is inclusive of all the bank discounts. Whatever the case may be, we’ll know for sure once the device debuts on July 16.

OnePlus Nord 4 5G: Specs, Design Leak

The same tipster also posted the specs of the handset, which are in line with the OnePlus Ace 3V that debuted a while back in China. OnePlus Nord 4 5G is expected to sport a 6.74-inch 120Hz AMOLED Display with a 1.5K resolution of 2772 x 1240 pixels, 100% DCI-P3 support, HDR10+ and 2150 nits of peak brightness. It should be powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC. While RAM and storage variants are unknown, it may pack up to 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 4.0 RAM.

It has a dual rear camera setup which includes could include a 50-megapixel f/1.8 primary shooter and an 8-megapixel IMX355 f/2.2 ultra wide angle lens. On the front, there is a 16MP f/2.4 camera sensor for selfies.

The device runs on OxygenOS 14 based on Android 14 out of the box. It will receive 3 years of major OS upgrades and 4 years of security patches. The handset is backed by a 5500mAh battery with 100W fast charging support. Further, the phone also includes an in-display fingerprint scanner and a stereo speaker setup. Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB-C port for charging. The device may also be IP65 rated.

As for the design, for the Nord 4 5G, OnePlus won’t be opting for the same design as the OnePlus Ace 3V but will give it a completely revamped one. The device is expected to have a metal unibody design as per OnePlus’ own teasers. Further, the device may get a dual-tone look with the camera placed inside a reflective bar, similar to what we saw on Realme GT 6 and the GT 6T.

Honor 90 Gets Android 14-based Magic OS 8 Update in India

0

Honor launched the Honor 90 in India last September. Compared to other brands in its segment, Honor has been slower in rolling out the Android 14 update. Now, Honor has begun the phased rollout of the Android 14-based Magic OS 8 update for the Honor 90 in India.

Madhav Sheth, CEO at HTech, announced on X that “the Honor 90 has been updated to
Magic OS 8, based on Android 14.” He further listed the new features that’ll be made available in the update, such as Magic Portal, Magic Capsule, and Parallel Space, along with “flagship-level AI features.” The update will reach the devices in a phased manner before July 11.

Sheth told us back in May that Magic OS 8.0 will be coming to the brand’s older devices around the same timeframe as the launch of the Honor 200 5G series in India, and that seems to hold true as the Honor 200 5G series is expected to debut in India on July 17.

When compared with the competition, the brand is definitely behind in the updates race, considering many of the OEMs have even pushed out the Android 15 beta update. In fact, Honor itself has released the Android 15 Beta update for its Magic 6 Pro 5G and Magic V2 smartphones internationally.

As for the features of Magic OS 8, the Magic Portal is an intent-based shortcut recommendation feature that lets users seamlessly switch and access services between apps and devices with a simple swipe. In safeguarding privacy and security, MagicOS 8.0 introduces system-wide Parallel Spaces and adds bar smartphones to the list of supported devices. Images and files can also be loaded into the private space through Magic Portal. The update also comes with MagicLM, HONOR’s Proprietary on-device AI large language model.

Finally, HTech CEO further confirmed to The Mobile Indian sometime back that the Honor Magic 6 Pro 5G will launch in India before Diwali, and could be manufactured in India.

End of Basic Plan: Netflix Pushes Subscribers Towards New Tiers

Netflix is moving forward with its plan to phase out its least expensive ad-free basic tier for existing subscribers in some regions. Numerous posts on social media, including Reddit, indicate that Netflix is prompting some basic plan users to select a new plan to continue their subscriptions.

Based on Reddit posts, most users receiving these notifications appear to be in Canada or the UK. This aligns with Netflix’s earlier announcement to phase out the basic tier in these regions during the second quarter of this year. Netflix’s pricing page for Canada and the UK now states that the “Basic plan has been discontinued” and that “you can change your plan at any time.”

Netflix discontinues basic plan in uk and canada

Last year, Netflix discontinued its basic plan for new or returning US, Canada, and UK customers. However, the company has not yet specified when it will begin phasing out the basic plan for existing US subscribers. This impending change will affect existing US subscribers, and they should stay tuned for further updates.

This move is part of Netflix’s broader strategy to streamline its subscription offerings and push more users towards its ad-supported and premium tiers. By phasing out the basic plan, Netflix aims to drive revenue growth and provide more value through its enhanced tiers.

One Reddit user shared a notification received on their Netflix app, stating, “Your last day to watch Netflix is July 13. Choose a new plan to keep watching.” Subscribers currently paying USD 11.99 per month for the basic plan will need to opt for either the USD 6.99 ad-supported tier, the USD 15.49 ad-free tier, or the USD 22.99 ad-free premium plan.

Existing subscribers in Canada and the UK will need to choose a new plan by July 13 to continue accessing Netflix’s content. The streaming giant doesn’t have any ad-supported tiers in India yet. In India, it offers a total of four plans: mobile, basic, standard, and premium. The basic plan, which allows for 720p streaming across mobile phones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs limited to one active screen at a time, costs Rs 199 per month.

Microsoft Closes Authorized Offline Stores in China

0

Microsoft is shutting down its brick-and-mortar stores in mainland China and shifting its focus to online and partner channels to better serve its customers, according to media reports.

On Tuesday, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to the Global Times via email that the company continuously evaluates its retail strategy to meet dynamic client demands. Microsoft has decided to enhance its channel approach in mainland China as part of this ongoing assessment. Despite the closure of physical stores, customers can still access the full range of Microsoft’s consumer products and services through retail partners and the Microsoft website.

Liu Dingding, a Beijing-based distributor of Microsoft products, told the South China Morning Post that Microsoft’s sales model in the Chinese market had not been profitable enough to justify the necessary investments despite strong consumer spending and market performance in China. He emphasized that the adjustment would not significantly impact Chinese consumers or Microsoft’s business, as the country’s developed e-commerce system and logistics network can sufficiently meet retail demands for Microsoft’s hardware products.

Additionally, the South China Morning Post reported that Microsoft’s authorized physical stores received notice to close by June 30, following the termination of their contracts. Unlike Apple, which operates its own stores in China, Microsoft relied on independent third-party retailers to maintain its network of branded shops. The exact number of affected local partners remains unclear.

Analysts have pointed out in different media reports that Microsoft’s decision does not indicate a broader trend among U.S. companies operating in China. For instance, Apple recently launched its Vision Pro augmented reality device in China, highlighting the country’s importance to its global strategy.

At a recent U.S. congressional hearing, Microsoft Vice-Chairman and President Brad Smith disclosed that China accounts for only 1.5 percent of the company’s global revenue. Smith also mentioned that Microsoft is offering relocation opportunities to its 700-800 employees in China.

LG is Enhancing TV and Soundbar Synergy: Young Hwan Jung

0

LG Electronics India has announced the launch of its new 2024 soundbar lineup, aiming to deliver an enhanced and immersive audio experience. The latest models include the SQ75TR, SG10Y, SQ70TY, S77TY, and S65TR. These soundbars are designed to work seamlessly with LG TVs, leveraging the TV’s speakers and the soundbar for a superior audio experience.

Synergizing TV and Soundbar Power

Young Hwan Jung, Director of Home Entertainment at LG Electronics India, emphasized LG’s approach to its soundbars. “In most cases, when we connect soundbars to TVs, the TV speakers go dead. At LG, we want to synergize the power of the TV’s speaker and soundbar to give users an immersive experience by utilizing both outputs,” Jung said to The Mobile Indian. He added that this feature, previously available only in premium LG TVs, will now be extended to more models across different price brackets.

Compatibility and Customization

Jung also highlighted that while LG soundbars are compatible with non-LG TVs, the synergy is optimized with LG TVs due to technology, providing a more cinematic experience. He noted that consumers typically prefer buying soundbars and TVs of the same brand for optimal performance.

Additionally, he added that LG plans to introduce a customized sound signature to its soundbars soon, tailored to the preferences of the Indian audience.

Advanced Features and Design

LG’s new soundbar models feature the proprietary WOW interface, which the company claims offers an intuitive and user-friendly means of managing soundbar settings and synchronizing sound modes with LG TVs.

These soundbars are also equipped with LG Room Calibration, which analyzes the room environment and adjusts audio settings to harmonize with the room’s acoustics. In 2024, this technology has been enhanced to include the calibration of rear surround speakers as well.

Also, since the new LG soundbars support wireless connectivity, instead of using technology for wireless connectivity between the soundbar and TV, LG employs its in-house technology called “WOWCAST.” This ensures superior sound quality without any compromise, delivering lossless audio even when playing Dolby Atmos content, claims LG.

Specific Models and Features

  • S70TY: Ideal for LG QNED TVs, featuring the industry’s first center up-firing speaker for improved voice clarity and an angled design for optimal alignment with the TV screen. A dedicated bracket allows for various mounting options without additional drilling.
  • S65TR and SQ75TR: Offer 600W output with rear speakers that don’t require a separate receiver box, providing a clutter-free setup. The S65TR has a 5.1 channel configuration, while the SQ75TR enhances this with a 5.1.1 channel setup and AI Sound Pro for intelligent sound adjustment.

Pricing

The new soundbars are priced as follows:

  • SQ75TR: Rs 44,990
  • SG10TY: Rs 54,990
  • SQ70TY: Rs 34,990
  • S65TR: Rs 29,990
  • S77TY: Rs 34,990

Future Plans

In addition to the improvements aimed at enhancing the audio experience, LG has also focused on aesthetics. The soundbars come with customized brackets that can be used to attach them to select LG TVs without the need for any additional drilling. LG had also included this feature in the soundbars that were launched in 2023.

When asked about the possibility of creating soundbars with universal brackets for TVs from other brands, Abhiral Bhansali, Business Head of Home Entertainment at LG India, stated that there are no current plans due to the diverse bracket designs used by different brands.
