Spotify Gives Back Lyrics Access to Free Users

0

Spotify, over recent times, has taken away a considerable amount of features from free users to push them towards a premium plan which has also drawn some criticism. However, the music streaming service has taken a step on the basis of feedback received, where it’s now giving back free users access to lyrics for songs.

Lyrics for songs on Spotify launched back in 2020 but beginning late last year, free users began noticing that Spotify was now asking them to subscribe to a premium plan to use the feature. However, as a part of the latest update, lyrics have returned for Spotify free users, as some users have noticed.

“At Spotify, we’re always testing and iterating. This means the availability of our features can vary across tiers and between markets and devices. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be expanding lyrics availability for Spotify Free users so more people can enjoy viewing more lyrics, globally,” the streaming service said to TechCrunch.

Furthermore, while speaking to 9to5Google, Spotify also confirmed that there’s a limit for the free lyrics. However, it explained that the new monthly limit is higher than anyone would ever reach, and higher than any single user has even neared. The limit hasn’t exactly been specified in terms of numbers, though. This means that despite there being a monthly limit, you should still be fine with using lyrics on your free Spotify account.

Spotify says the change will roll out “over the coming weeks” to all users, but many free users have already experienced it in their apps.

Meanwhile, the service is also working on launching a HiFi lossless streaming plan it has been working on for years. Spotify currently streams music at a 320kbps rate but with HiFi coming, one can go up to 2,117kbps, with as much as 15.9MB of data being consumed per minute. Spotify also mentions that even 24-bit lossless is available on limited songs that can be played via the FLAC audio format.

Poco M6 Plus 5G Review: Are its Competitors Better Offerings?

0

Poco has announced a new budget smartphone in India, the Poco M6 Plus. It appears to be a rebranded Redmi 13 5G but with a new design. With a starting price of Rs 13,499, the Poco M6 Plus competes with the likes of HMD Crest, Lava Blaze X, Oppo K12x 5G, and more. Should you consider the Poco device over the competition? Let’s find out.

Design & Display

Poco m6 plus design

The Poco M6 Plus employs a glass back with a flat plastic frame. For the price, the M6 Plus feels quite decent in the hand paired with the premium look. The buttons reside on the right along with the fingerprint sensor which doubles as the power key. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate in detecting the print.

Poco m6 plus 5g rear panel

The black model we have has a dual-tone look with the bottom half having a glittery finish while the top half is plain black. Aside from feeling premium in hand, the device is also quite big to hold, which makes it inappropriate for one-handed use. Moreover, because it has a reflective look, the back panel is also a fingerprint magnet. To solve that, Poco offers a transparent TPU case inside the box.

The single speaker on the bottom is mediocre. It’s not the loudest, and it does not handle songs well, as the sound is mostly muffled. The vibration motor is also the usual one used in such devices, and you cannot expect much from it.

Aside from that, the M6 Plus still does well in the design department.

As for the display, it is a 6.79-inch IPS FHD+ display that has a peak brightness of 550 nits, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch sampling rate. This LCD panel is responsive as well as smooth in normal use.

Poco m6 plus display

The colours also look vivid, and watching videos on it is a pleasant experience, too, thanks to how sharp the content looks. The viewing angles, however, are below average, and so is the brightness when you look at it outdoors under direct sunlight.

Compared to the competition, I have definitely seen better displays at this price point, such as the one in CMF Phone 1, HMD Crest, and Lava Blaze X also. Those are not only AMOLED panels but are also much brighter.

Software & Performance

The Poco M6 Plus is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Accelerated Edition, paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4x and 128GB of expandable UFS 2.2 storage. The device runs on HyperOS, based on 14.

The M6 Plus runs smoothly for day-to-day use. RAM management is decent and the overall animations across the system feel and look fluid, too. The animation speed of closing or opening apps has been sped up compared to what we see on HyperOS running on Poco X-series, F-series, and other flagship and mid-range and Xiaomi devices so they feel snappier on lower-end devices like the Poco M6 Plus 5G which surely does work.

However, it’s not meant to handle demanding tasks, such as playing titles like Call of Duty Mobile, where the device begins to show signs of struggle.

Aside from that, HyperOS offers a load of customisation options and is well-optimised for the device. There are a good amount of lock screen styles to choose from along with the ability to change icon size, fonts, and much more.

Then there’s a flash notifications feature where the flashlight on the back blinks when you receive a call or when a set alarm rings. For security and privacy, you can set lock for various apps.

In addition, there’s a battery protection feature that allows you to limit the charging percentage up to 80% so it doesn’t go past it which helps in the longevity of battery. Furthermore, the device runs on the June 2024 security patch which is not very old and acceptable. However, if it was on the July or August patch, it would have been much better.

Poco m6 plus 5g bloatware

Finally, in terms of software, there is some bloatware included out of the box. However, you can easily uninstall all those apps.

Connectivity performance of the handset was optimal, including that of Wi-Fi, 5G, and Bluetooth. The device doesn’t have which is a usual omission in smartphones that cost this much.

Battery Life

The 5,030 battery on the Poco M6 Plus easily helps it last more than a day of moderate use. My usage pattern included chatting on social media, browsing the web, some calling, and scrolling through apps like Instagram. My screen-on time consistently ranged from 7 to 8 hours, which is quite impressive.

The device takes around 1h 15m to charge from 0 to 100%, which is again a decent time for a phone that costs this much. To sum up, the Poco M6 Plus surely didn’t disappoint us with its battery life.

Cameras

Poco m6 plus 5g cameras

The Poco M6 Plus’s back features a 108-megapixel f/1.8 Samsung HM6 primary camera and a 2-megapixel f/2.4 macro sensor. On the front, it features a 13-megapixel shooter.

The photos from the main sensor are sharp and have decent colour tones. They have a cool hue, but the colours look pleasant to the eyes. The exposure levels are under control, and the dynamic range is decent, too. For the price, I’d say the Poco M6 Plus clicks quite nice photos when given enough light.

The secondary macro sensor isn’t the best and lacks some details. While it handles the colours fine, the one thing that’s absolutely the most necessary in a macro shot, which is detailing and sharpness, is on the lower side, which makes it unusable in most conditions.

Selfies from the front sensor are acceptable but not the best. While it handles the skin tones fine, the sharpness and detailing are poor. Moreover, the background often gets overexposed when it’s bright, suggesting the dynamic range is disappointing as well.

Portrait shots come out quite impressive. Not only is the detection on point but the colours and details in the shot are nice.

The main sensor also handles shots in artificial lighting with ease, with no compromise in either detailing or colours. However, in low light situations, the camera does begin to struggle as the photos start becoming blurry.

Turning on the does help with exposure management in night conditions, but the detailing remains lackluster.

OnePlus Buds Pro 3: Leaked Specifications

the OnePlus Buds Pro 3 will offer up to 43 hours of battery life, which is 4 hours more than its predecessor. A 10-minute charge will give you 5 hours of music playback, as per the leaked report by Smartprix.

The buds will be IP55-rated and will use the latest Bluetooth v5.4 which means you can get ultra-low audio at up to 94 milliseconds. The Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation will also be improved, where it is bumped up to 50 dB (up from 49 dB on the Buds Pro 2). Conversations and voice calls will be twice as clear, thanks to improved noise cancelling.

iPhone SE 4 Could Get a Notable Display Upgrade

0

iPhone SE lineup hasn’t seen a new launch since 2022, but that could change in 2025 as the next product in the lineup, iPhone SE 4 (or iPhone SE 2025), is expected to debut during Q1 of next year. Leaks suggest that iPhone SE 4 could get a notable upgrade in terms of display, where it will have a type of panel no other iPhone SE has ever had in the past.

South Korea’s The Elec reports that iPhone SE 4 could use OLED displays manufactured by LG Display. The new report mentions that China’s BOE is will still be the primary display supplier for the next iPhone SE while LG Display will be the secondary supplier. This could be a significant upgrade for the iPhone SE lineup, considering how superior OLED panels are to panels. Moreover, this would be the first time an iPhone SE would pack an OLED display.

Aside from that, another recent report suggested that the iPhone SE 4 might be priced around $500, a noticeable increase from the $429 starting price of the iPhone SE 3. This potential price hike reflects the significant upgrades and new features expected in the upcoming model.

The device is expected to be a rebranded iPhone 14 but with a redesigned back panel and a single camera on the back. The iPhone SE 4 may be powered by the A15 Bionic chip, coupled with Apple’s in-house 5G modem. This Modem will only support sub-6GHz 5G frequencies rather than the faster mmWave spectrum.

The device is rumoured to feature a 48-megapixel main camera and will likely come with a USB Type-Ccharging port, aligning with recent European Union regulations on universal charging standards. Additionally, the phone will run on 18 out of the box. It should be noted that Apple has not officially confirmed any specifics about the iPhone SE 4. As the release date approaches, more concrete details will likely emerge.

Samsung’s First Android 15-based One UI 7 Beta Delayed, Now Expected Next Month

0

Samsung was expected to announce the first One UI 7 Beta based on 15 earlier this Monday, however, it was delayed according to reports. Now, a new report has surfaced online which suggests a new timeline for the One UI 7 Beta and it is now expected to arrive next month.

The report saying that One UI 7 Beta got delayed was shared by SamMobile, for which it cited One UI 6.1.1 rollout as the reason. The release of Samsung’s first Android 15 Beta has been delayed due to the One UI 6.1.1 update, which is due to be released to older foldable phones, tablets, and Samsung’s other high-end Galaxy phones, such as the S23 series and the S24 series.

Samsung now plans to release the first beta for One UI 7 “around the third week of August,” according to the publication, delaying the release by nearly a month from the expected date. This comes after Google’s anticipated launch of Android 15 for devices, alongside the Pixel 9 series which is set to debut on August 13.

Because the One UI 6.1.1 is yet to rollout, it feels like Samsung thinks that One UI 7, if released, would steal the spotlight from the 6.1.1 update. The One UI 6.1.1 is confirmed to bring a load of new Galaxy features to Samsung’s flagships.

On the other hand, the One UI 7 Beta is further expected to be an even bigger update with all the changes that have been leaked so far. The Quick settings panel which got a revamp in One UI 6 will once again undergo some design changes, where the boxes containing the icons will be more rounded, while there’ll be on-screen controls for volume as well, which is a first for Samsung. Aside from that, new icons, continuity features, camera design revamp, and much more also expected to be a part of the update.
