TCL sends out invites for BlackBerry event on August 30, is it the KEY2 LE?

BlackBerry KEY2 LE won’t be as mid-range a smartphone as the KEY2 since it’s reported to be powered by a less powerful Snapdragon 636 processor with 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of onboard storage. Even in terms of imaging, the KEY2 LE will feature a 13MP primary sensor with a mere 5MP lens as secondary.

TCL has started distributing ‘save the date’ invites for its BlackBerry Mobile announcement on August 30 during the IFA 2018 event at Berlin, Germany. This could possibly mean that the company could well be unveiling the lighter version of the BlackBerry KEY2 which was introduced in India just last month.

Like usual, there’s no way of finding out what exactly TCL might have planned to unveil on August 30, but if previous speculations do bear out to be right, we’re looking at the BlackBerry KEY2 LE. This is the same BlackBerry device which was leaked with specifications and a press render yesterday packing in the same 4.5-inch screen and the traditional QWERTY keyboard with a fingerprint sensor embedded in space-bar, the same way as was found on its expensive sibling. However, the smartphone is expected to measure at a slightly smaller 150.25 x 71.8 x 8.35 mm.

If the leaked specs sheet were anything to go by, the BlackBerry KEY2 LE won’t be as mid-range a smartphone as the KEY2 since it’s reported to be powered by a less powerful Snapdragon 636 with 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of onboard storage. Even in terms of imaging, the KEY2 LE will feature a 13MP primary sensor with a mere 5MP lens as secondary instead of the dual 12MP+12MP shooters on the original KEY2. The device will be juiced up by a slightly smaller 3,000mAh battery and run on Oreo with added BlackBerry protection.

There have been no leaks suggesting the price of the device but with skinned hardware and not that powerful setup for a camera, the KEY2 LE will surely be more palatable than the original KEY2 which sells in India for an asking price of Rs 42,990.
