2018 wasn’t actually a happening year for the Lenovo-owned Motorola brand. The brand kept on launching budget smartphones like the G-series, E-series and the One Power but never really got a flagship device out on the market. That changes with the upcoming Motorola Odin which is apparently the codename of the next generation Moto Z smartphone – the Moto Z4.
According to sources cited by XDA Developers, Motorola will be releasing the Moto Z4 during early 2019 and will incorporate Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset, the Snapdragon 8150 which is expected to the successor of the Snapdragon 845. The Snapdragon 8150 is expected to power the next generation of flagship Android phones and will be manufactured on a 7nm process and will feature a dedicated NPU.
The device is expected to be configured with 4GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage in its base version and the device will be pre-installed with Google’s latest Android 9 Pie. The device is expected to render support for all of Motorola’s modular Moto Mods including the 5G Moto Mod which is expected to deliver 5G support to the phone. The device might also see a Snapdragon X50 modem built onto the main chip to offer 5G connectivity.
XDA couldn’t confirm whether the Motorola Odin could feature an in-display fingerprint scanner but said it’s a possibility. Being it its early stages of development, there’s a chance that the Moto Z4 will make its debut in North America though unlocked versions of the phone are likely as well, pushing it to other regions.
To recall, Motorola unveiled the Moto Z3 smartphone in August this year powered by aQualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device features a 6.01-inch Full HD+ Max Vision Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.The phone sports a dual-camera setup at the rear with a combination of the 12MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 1.25-micron pixel size and a 12-megapixel monochrome sensor coupled with Laser Autofocus (pDAF), Color Correlated Temperature (CCT) dual LED flash, Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL).
