The low cost tablet segment has undergone several changes in the last few months. Gone are the days when the under Rs 10,000 tablet was equated with lowly features. Now, the sub-Rs 10,000 tablets too come with decent features including quad core processors, voice calling etc.

Dell Venue 7

PC giant, Dell in January this year announced this tablet for India for Rs 10,999 but now it is available for about Rs 9,900. Though it doesn’t have voice calling support but its other features make it an attractive tablet at this price. To start with, it has the 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom Z2560 dual core which along with 2 DDR2 RAM expected to offers a flawless performance.

The Dell Venue 7 is based on 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system and comes with a 7 inch IPS display with high definition resolution. It has 16 GB internal storage, 32 GB expandable storage slot, 3 megapixel primary camera, 0.3 megapixel front camera, and a 4100 battery.

The Venue 7 has 4.0, micro USB 2.0, and as well. It is 9.5 mm thick and weighs 350 grams.

Lava Qpad e704

It was launched this month itself and brings the perfect combination of quad core processor and voice calling. It is now available for Rs 9,999.

The Lava Qpad e704 comes with a 7 inch touchscreen which has 1024×600 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad core processor and 1 GB RAM. There is a Videocore in the tablet but its output is not known right now. Like many other sub-Rs 10,000 tablets, the Lava Qpad too comes with 4 GB internal storage and 32 GB micro SD card slot.

But the highlight of the tablet is its connectivity features – it comes with dual SIM connectivity and it allows voice calling as well. As per the listing, in the tablet you can use the SIM connectivity to access network but we guess only one SIM slot is 3G enabled. There is also WiFi in the tablet for internet access. Besides, it has Bluetooth 4.0 and micro USB port for file transfer.

The tablet has also a big 3500 mAh battery which claims to provide 8 hours of talktime and 240 hours of standby. In the Qpad, there is a 3.2 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front camera. It also comes with and GPS for navigation. The tablet is based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system and not KitKat which is the latest version of Android.

Swipe MTV Slash 4X

Available for about Rs 9,000, the Swipe MTV Slash 4X brings a quad-core processor which has a clock speed of 1.3 GHz, a healthy 1 GB RAM, and dual SIM connectivity.

The 7-inch display of the Slash 4X has 1024×600 pixel resolution. It has a 2 megapixel camera at the back and a 0.3 megapixel camera in the front. The tablet comes packed with 4 GB on-board storage and a slot that can hold up to 32 GB micro SD card. This dual SIM based tablet has a 3000 mAh battery.

Besides, this tablet has Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. Like other MTV-Swipe products, this tablet too comes with MTV-content such as MTV Hottie and MTV Funny.

Lenovo IdeaTab A1000

Though this tablet has not a quad core processor like the previous two tablets, but the Idea Tab A1000 has 1 GB RAM which in association with its 1.2GHz dual-core MediaTek 8317 processor provides decent performance. It has also voice calling support. Besides, the Lenovo Idea Tab A1000 has USB OTG support which allows using a pen drive directly in this tablet (via a OTG cable).

The Idea Tab A1000 comes with a 7 inch display with 1024×600 pixels resolution. This Android 4.1 Jelly Bean based tablet has a 0.3 megapixel front camera, 32 GB expandable storage slot, WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0.

However, this Lenovo tablet has neither 3G connectivity option either through SIM or dongle, or a rear camera. However, currently it is available for as low as Rs 6,700 which makes it a very good tablet at this price range.

Xolo Play Tab 7.0 (Rs 8,000)

Nvidia Tegra 3 based Xolo Play Tab 7, which was launched last year for Rs 12,999, is now available for just about Rs 7,000 which makes it the cheapest Nvidia Tegra 3 based tablet. The Xolo Play Tab 7 comes with the powerful 1.2 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor and the 12-core Nvidia ULP GeForce graphics processing unit. It has Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, 1 GB DDR3 RAM, 8 GB internal storage, and 32 GB expandable storage slot. Its 7 inch IPS display also comes with decent 1280×800 pixels resolution.

Besides, the Xolo Play Tab 7 has a 2 megapixel front camera but it has no rear camera. The tablet is armed with a 4000 mAh battery. This 10.6 mm thick tablet has Bluetooth 4.0 and micro USB port for file transfers. It has WiFi connectivity for internet connection.
