Android 8.0 Oreo rolled out for Sony Xperia XA1, XA1 Ultra and XA1 Plus

Sony also rolled out the Android Oreo update for the Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus smartphones recently.

After rolling out the Android Oreo update for the Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus smartphones recently, Sony has now announced the roll out of Android Oreo for the Xperia XA1, XA1 Ultra and XA1 Plus smartphones.

Xperia Blog reports that (over the air) update is 900MB in size and brings build number 48.1.A.0.116 from 48.0.A.1.131 (Android 7.0). The latest update also brings the security patch level to February 1st. In order to update to the latest operating system, users need to go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update.

To recall, the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra were launched at MWC 2017 with Android 7.0 Nougat, while the XA1 Plus was launched in August with Android Nougat operating system. The Xperia XA1 was launched in India in April and Xperia XA1 Ultra was launched in July last year. Sony Xperia XA1 Plus was also launched in India last year in September.

The exact changelog is not known but after the update, the smartphones will have all the goodies of Android Oreo. Users will get picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimize a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email. Android Oreo has other features like including Background limits, installation of apps via APK, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.
