Telecom operators like Vodafone, Airtel and Idea have been on their toes ever since Reliance Jio was made commercial back in September 2016. Recently, Mukesh Ambani extended the free Welcome Offer to 31st March 2017. Now Post Jio, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has also announced that the it will soon allow customers to make unlimited local and national voice calls to any network for Rs 149 a month. The plan is expected to be effective from January 1 in time for the New Year. Along with free voice calls for both local and STD, BSNL’s Rs 149 plan would also include 300MB data. However, this plan is expected to be 3G and not 4G LTE.
BSNL chairman Anupam Shrivastava has said to ET “We are working on a plan to allow unlimited voice calls to mobile subscribers at any network across India at Rs 149 a month. Jio has come up with disruptive strategy and we are ready to match whatever tariff is being offered by our competitors”. As per ET, BSNL will be second only to Reliance Jio in offering unlimited voice calling in low-value packs.
Following this, more telecos are likely to follow suit and may announce attractive offers (voice and data) in the time to come to retain customers.
It is also to be noted that BSNL had promised to offer Reliance Jio like tariffs in September this year just after Reliance Jio launched its Welcome Offer for three months. Reliance Jio provided free unlimited 4G data, voice calls and SMS till 31st December 2016 which has now been extended to 31st March.
Recently, Vodafone also launched Bada Data Chota Price at Rs 24.
