BSNL promises to offer Reliance Jio like tariffs

BSNL recently launched a promotional unlimited broadband plan which offers 300GB at Rs 249 which converts in to less than a rupee per GB.

With Reliance Jio now officially launched, many operators have been scratching their head as to how to stand against Jio tariffs. BSNL however, considered Jio’s entry as a challenge and promises to match them “tariff-by-tariff”. BSNL claims that the telecom will adopt an aggressive stance on tariffs.

“It is a question of survival in the market… there is no other way but to match Jio, tariff-by-tariff. If tariff of Jio is aggressive, the tariff of BSNL and of all other operators is also going to be aggressive,” Anupam Shrivastava, chairman and managing director of BSNL, was quoted as saying.

“As far as challenge is concerned, we cannot wish it away… I believe, BSNL is in a position to match Reliance Jio’s tariffs most successfully, because we are incumbent operator. We are landline and optical fibre operator so our broadband tariff rides on our own network… We don’t have to start procuring, investing and then come out with offerings,” he added.

BSNL recently launched a promotional unlimited broadband plan which offers 300GB at Rs 249 which converts in to less than a rupee per GB. This plan was apparently due Jio’s Welcom offer which offers unlimited voice calls, SMS ans 4G data till 31st December 2016.

Earlier BSNL also introduced offers such as free calling via landline on Sundays and night calling every day.

Whatever may be the situation for different telecom operators, we as consumers are the clear winners.
