Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has suspended International Wi-Fi roaming service in two circles - Chennai and Tami Nadu circle. As of now, the exact reason for suspension of this service is not known.
The service is still active in other circles, and only the Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles are affected.
In a statement, BSNL has said that "It is hereby conveyed that the International Wi-Fi roaming service supported on Andriod platform using MYBSNL APP, is suspended with immediate effect in Chennai Telephones (including TN Circle) under GSM prepaid mobile service till further orders." As per which, the service has been terminated for Android users only, which means iOS users might still be able to use it.
The suspension was first spotted by Telecom Talk. The BSNL Rs 501 plan is also terminated in the same telecom circles. The plan offers unlimited volume of data through the Hotspots across the with a validity period of 30 days. However, the source notes that this pack is still active in other circles.
BSNL allows its users to connect to these Wi-Fi hotspots through My BSNL app, available for both Android and iOS users. For the activation of the pack, a customer will have to activate the Wi-Fi pack before leaving India, so that the My BSNL app can seamlessly connect to available Wi-Fi Hotspot in other countries.
Recently, BSNL started rolling out extra 1.5GB of data per day for its Rs 429 prepaid plan. The prepaid plan comes with a validity of 71 days and it offers 1GB of data per day. This means that users will get the extra benefit over its existing data limit. BSNL customers opting for this plan will get a total of 2.5GB of data per day.
