Asus Padfone launched in India for Rs 64,999

The PadFone features a combination of two devices, one smartphone with a 4.3 inch display and a dock with a 10.1 inch display.

Asus Tek, an device and computer peripheral manufacturer, has finally launched its hybrid Android tablet, which is known as the Asus PadFone, in India for Rs 64,999.

The Taiwanese company had unveiled the PadFone back in 2011 during Computex event but since then delayed the launch of the tablet in India due to several reasons.

The PadFone features a combination of two devices, one smartphone with a 4.3 inch display and a dock with a 10.1 inch display. The dock features a bigger display and a separate battery pack which will enhance the battery of the PadFone while in use. The dock however is of no use without the PadFone.

The Asus PadFone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core clocked at 1.5 GHz. The PadFone comes with a 4.3-inch display with a 960×540 with multitouch capabilities. The device runs Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system but is expected to be upgraded to Jelly Bean operating system as well.

At the rear, there is an 8-megapixel camera which is capable of recording videos while its front VGA camera can be used for video callings. The PadFone features 1 of RAM along with 32 GB memory options memory and the usual connectivity options including 3G, WiFi, and GPS.

The docking slot converts the PadFone into a 10.1-inch tablet. The package also comes with a dockable full-size keypad like the one featured on the Asus Transformer.

The PadFone Station has a 10.1-inch 1280×800 pixel display which can be used with the supplied for extended functionality, something like the Galaxy Note. There is a 1.3-megapixel front and 8-megapixel rear camera available for the PadFone station as well. Also the PadFone station includes a 6,600 battery that also charges the phone while it is docked.

The Padfone, while in its 10 inch state, is fully compatible with the accessories of the Asus Transformer Prime allowing it to make use of the docking station of the transformer tablet as well. Along with the notebook computer like functionality, the docking station further enhances the battery life of the PadFone with the extended battery that the dock has.
