Xiaomi to launch a new smartphone in India on 14 February. Is it Redmi 5?

The company is said to launch the Redmi 5 smartphone globally by the second half of February.

Xiaomi is all set to launch its first smartphone launch of this year in India on 14 February. The company has started sending the media invites for the launch event scheduled to be held in New Delhi on the said date.

However, the invite does not reveal the name of the smartphone to be launched but it is expected that the company might be launching the Redmi 5 in India as the invite carries number 5. As per an earlier report, the company is said to launch the Redmi 5 smartphone globally by the second half of February.

To recall, the brand introduced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China in December last year. The Redmi 5 comes in two storage variants- 2GB RAM with 16GB of internal storage variant is priced at 799 Yuan, which is approximately Rs 7,795 and for 3GB RAM with 32GB of internal storage version one has to pay 899 Yuan (approximately Rs 8,770).

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch display that supports resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels along with support for 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a 1.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 450 processor, along with Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. The smartphone also has an option to expand the memory up to 128GB via microSD card. The smartphone runs on 7.1.2 Nougat operating system with MIUI 9 on top of it and is backed up by a 3200mAh battery.

On the camera front, Redmi 5 smartphone sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with Flash, 1.25μm pixel size, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash for selfies and video chats. The smartphone has a fingerprint scanner which will be placed on its back panel. Besides, the smartphone offers Dual SIM, LTE, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), 4.2, GPS, and a port. The handset measures 151.8 × 72.8 × 7.7 mm and weighs 157 grams.
