Xiaomi Redmi 5 to launch globally in second half of February: Report

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch display that supports HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels along with support for 18:9 aspect ratio.

Xiaomi is reportedly gearing up to launch the Redmi 5 smartphone for the global market. The latest leaks reveal that the company is planning to launch the smartphone globally by the second half of February.

According to a renowned tipster, Roland Quandt, the company is planning to include LTE 20, which will make it work in full capacity on certain Euro operators. However, he does not mention whether the company will bring the Redmi 5 Plus for the global market or not. Further, there is no information on whether both the smartphones will be available for the Indian market or not.

To recall, the brand introduced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China in December last year. The Redmi 5 comes in two storage variants- 2GB RAM with 16GB of internal storage variant is priced at 799 Yuan, which is approximately Rs 7,795 and for 3GB RAM with 32GB of internal storage version one has to pay 899 Yuan (approximately Rs 8,770).

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch display that supports resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels along with support for 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a 1.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 450 processor, along with Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. The smartphone also has an option to expand the memory up to 128GB via microSD card. The smartphone runs on 7.1.2 Nougat operating system with MIUI 9 on top of it and is backed up by a 3200mAh battery.

On the camera front, Redmi 5 smartphone sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with Flash, 1.25μm pixel size, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash for selfies and video chats. The smartphone has a fingerprint scanner which will be placed on its back panel. Besides, the smartphone offers Dual SIM, LTE, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), 4.2, GPS, and a port. The handset measures 151.8 × 72.8 × 7.7 mm and weighs 157 grams.
