Vodafone Idea to soon launch a music-streaming application in India

The app will give a stiff competition to Bharti Airtel's Wynk Music and Reliance Jio's JioSaavn music streaming apps.

Vodafone Idea, which becomes the largest telecom operator after the merger with Vodafone and Idea Cellular, is all set to introduce a new music streaming application in the country. The music streaming will give a stiff competition to Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio music streaming apps.

The telecom operator is planning to shut down the Idea Music application, report LiveMint. “We are sunsetting the Idea Music app and we will come up very soon with an offering that will provide the best-in-class music streaming services, through a partnership that we are in the final stages of closing,” Balesh Sharma, chief executive officer of Vodafone Idea was quoted by the publication.

Sharma also revealed that the operator is looking for partnerships as well for its upcoming music streaming platform. Idea Music has a library of more than 3 million songs, though when compared to Airtel’s Wynk Music and Reliance Jio’s JioSaavn app, the music streaming app was of no match.

There is no information when the operator will launch the music streaming application. With this, Vodafone Idea will not only face tough competition from Airtel and Reliance Jio, but it will also have a tough time competing with other players. We have Gaana, Hungama and more applications that have a strong user base. Then there is Amazon Prime Music, which comes bundled with Prime membership. There are other players like Apple Music and Google Play Music.
