Tata Tele starts shifting users to Airtel network

Tata çustomers however need not to worry as they will continue to enjoy uninterrupted services with their existing SIMs during the transition.

Tata Teleservices has started shifting its subscribers to Airtel’s network.

Few days ago, Tata Teleservices sold its wireless business to Airtel on a no debt, no cash basis. As per the deal Tata Tele to be responsible its Rs 31,000 crore odd debt while Airtel will pay about Rs 2000 crore spectrum debt of Tata Tele.

The first batch of the transition is being done in circles of UP (West), Bihar, and West Bengal. Mobile users of other circles will get migrated to Airtel’s network gradually after that.

The Tata çustomers however need not to worry as they will continue to enjoy uninterrupted services with their existing SIMs during the transition.

Commenting on the transition, T Elango, President – Consumer Business, Tata Teleservices said: “As we rationalise our network assets on a staggered basis, we have decided to begin transitioning our mobile customers to the Airtel network under an ICR arrangement.”

Currently, the Tata Tele-Bharti Airtel deal is being considered by various regulatory authorities but Airtel has decided to go ahead with the transition to avoid poaching of Tata Tele users by other telcos.

Tata Teleservices has about 45 million customers.
