Tata Sky partners with Netflix for content delivery in India

Through this partnership, Tata Sky subscribers will be able to browse and access the entire Netflix service, including TV shows, films, documentaries, stand-up comedy and kid’s titles.

Tata Sky and Netflix today entered into a strategic partnership that will allow users to access the content from both the companies.

Through this partnership, Tata Sky subscribers will be able to browse and access the entire Netflix service, including TV shows, films, documentaries, stand-up comedy and kid’s titles. “Tata Sky’s partnership with Netflix adds another dimension to providing world-wide quality content On-Demand for our subscribers. Keeping up with our promise of pioneering innovation, we will soon announce the offering that is possible with this partnership. We are glad to include Netflix in our family and look forward to keeping offering an extraordinary entertainment experience to all our subscribers,” said Harit Nagpal, MD & CEO of ‎Tata Sky Ltd.

However, the partnership didn’t reveal some key information. Firstly, it is not clear whether Tata Sky will announce a separate plan with access to Netflix’s content or it will be free for its users. Further, there is information whether the same thing will be available for users who will download Tata Sky app.

Bharti Airtel is also in talks with Netflix for providing the free subscription to its users via Airtel TV application. Sources familiar with the development said to The Mobile Indian, “One can expect a formal announcement related to Airtel and Netflix partnership in May.” This is a good news for Airtel users as they will now have a plethora of content to stream.

Netflix introduced its streaming service in India in 2016. The company has three plans: Rs 500 basic plan, Rs 650 standard plan and Rs 800 premium plan. Under Basic, users will not get and Ultra HD content for streaming and they can watch the content on one device at a time. However, with the standard plan, users get the access to HD content and can watch up to 2 devices at the same. Lastly, in Premium, users get to watch their favourite content in HD and Ultra HD quality and users can watch up to 4 screens at the same time.
