Tareekh pe tareekh: ‘Reliance Jio to be launched in India by Oct’

Earlier reports had suggested that Reliance Jio will be rolled out by July this year.

Reliance Jio’s 4 G services are now expected to be launched in India in by October according to a report by CLSA which is an equity broker and investment group.

“Several indicators suggest a strong possibility of the commercial launch of Jio’s services within the next three months ahead of the festive season in October. Jio may already be handling the second-highest data traffic among all telecom operators and could ramp up close to the highest even before launch,” said a report of PTI quoting CLSA.

This is not for the first time that any report has given an indication of Jio’s launch is the country but till date, none of them came true. Also, earlier it was expected that Reliance Jio may launch its services by August end.

The Reliance Industries-owned telecom company’s maiden plan — likely to be called Freedom — may offer free voice services bundled with data, priced at least 25% lower than current offerings of top rivals.

Reliance Jio has pan-India BWA (4G) license. Initially, it got spectrum in 2300 MHz but later it acquired 800 and 1800 MHz band spectrums. The Mukesh Ambani-led company is expected to start a price war among telecos. Infact, many telecos like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular are rolling out their 4G services quickly to gain the early mover advantage.
