Snapchat reportedly working on an augmented reality device

The new AR glasses from the social networking app is likely to come with its fun filters which can be applied to the world one would see through those glasses.

The famous image and video sharing Snapchat is reportedly exploring the augmented reality domain. The app is allegedly working on Google-glass like AR glasses with connectivity.

As per Financial Times Snapchat is now a part of Bluetooth special interest group (SIG). For those who are not aware, SIG is a group that helps various firms create wireless communications technology through which Snapchat is now eligible to manufacture its own Bluetooth enabled devices which is likely to be AR glasses.

Back in March 2016, similar reports surfaced hinting at a Snapchat augmented reality device. This was due to the fact that Snapchat acquired Vergence Labs in 2014 which is a start-up which supposedly work on technologies like Google Glass and recent reports suggest that some of the designers still work for Snapchat.

To detail more about the possible Snapchat Glass, users will be able to take photos and videos through the device without actually opening the device and maybe share it as well.

One has to admit how Snapchat used its interesting filters or lenses which gained popularity and huge user base instantly. Not to forget that famous Dog lens. As a matter of fact, Bloomberg reports that Snapchat is witnessing daily users of about 150 million which interestingly is more than Twitter.

Snapchat has not revealed anything about the same but it won’t be surprising if we would see such innovations any time soon given the fact that over 100 million videos and photos are shared daily on the messaging app.
