5G networks are still in early stages of deployment with no signs on the technology landing in India, but Samsung has now announced that it has started working on the next generation networks. The company has opened up a new research centre for 6G Mobile Network Development in Seoul.

Samsung has officially made it clear that it has expanded the current telecommunications research team to the level of a centre. This Research centre will now start the development of solutions and standardisation of 6G, reports The Korea Herald.

A Samsung official commented on the matter saying “The current team on telecommunications technology standards has been expanded to start leading research on the 6G network”.

The upcoming 6G technology is expected to integrate satellites for global coverage, higher data speeds and seamless calling.

The latest move from Samsung comes as a means to tackle competition in the long run as the South Korean company tries to spearhead in the race to the next generation of cellular technology. The early investment in 6G also shows that Samsung is trying to past Huawei who was once leading in the race before being landed a US trade ban.

Prior to this news, Samsung announced a partnership with American semiconductor maker AMD in a multi-year deal that will see the South Korean company license AMD’s Radeon intellectual property and build it onto its own ARM-based Exynos chipsets.
