Opera launches app store

During trials, Opera has already achieved 700,000 downloads per day with 15 million users visiting the app store in February.

Opera is coming up with a new web based mobile store, which will be accessible through the speed dial link( shortcut to app store) in Opera browser.

The Opera Mobile Store is powered by Appia, a company which provides platform for making app store, and it will have both free and paid apps for all the mobile platforms like Java, Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, Palm and Windows Mobile.

Users can customise the Opera mobile store according to their operating system, currency and the local language.

The company has also launched Opera Publisher Portal, where the developers can submit apps directly.

The mobile applications market is likely to be worth $38 billion, according to a report from Forrester Research. Opera aims to grab a share of this market. During the pre-launch process in February, more than 15 million customers from 200 countries visited Opera Mobile Store. The Opera Mobile Store saw more than 700,000 downloads per day during the trails of their app store.

However, there is a question mark over the success of the app store considering the tough competition.
