OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6 users are complaining about a new audio bug in their smartphones. Multiple users are experiencing distorted, low-quality audio while using select third-party apps.

Notably, the problem is severe during audio and video calls. Audio that is picked up by the mics is randomly quiet/way too loud. We use Facebook Messenger video chat, Duo, and Instagram to communicate/chat, and the microphone quality is beyond terrible. Audio is way too quiet most of the time, but sometimes way too loud,” reports one user. OnePlus forum also reveals that the issue is also affected OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 handsets.

Interestingly, not all third-party apps are affected with this bug. Instagram is working fine, while other apps are showing this problem. Many believe that the affected applications are exclusively using the top microphone, which is meant for noise cancellation, and not the bottom one. Further digging reveals that the issue cropped up last year. OnePlus is yet acknowledge this bug and make an official statement regarding the same. At the time of writing, there is no workaround or fix for this issue.
