A month after starting registrations for a closed beta programme based on Android Pie for the devices, OnePlus has now released the Android Pie open community beta update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. Starting today, users of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will be able to manually download and install Android 9 Pie on their devices.
The news comes from a post on the OnePlus community forum which has revealed that the latest update is positioned between the closed beta and open beta releases. This community beta update will be available for public testing before a stable Android Pie update is released in a few weeks.
With the latest Android 9.0 Pie version, users will be able to use the all-new gesture-based navigation, a DND mode that turns the display in greyscale, a new pill-shaped icon for navigations, refined notifications and Quick Settings, vertical volume controls and new power menu. Besides that, the latest update shifts the Android Security patch to April 2019, adds Gaming Mode 3.0, deep integration with Google Duo and Google Lens inside the camera.
To install the update, users will have to manually download the OTA ROM and place it in the root folder inside the internal storage. From there, they’ll be able to flash the package by heading over to Settings > System Update and tap on local update. In order for the update to complete, you should make sure that the device boot loader is locked before flashing the update.
Prior to this, the company rolled out a new update that the latest Android security updates and renders support for the company’s Type-C Bullets Earphones which enables the headphones by default.
