Microsoft Office apps arrive for Nokia Symbian Belle devices

Office productivity apps - Word, Excel and PowerPoint finally arrive for eight Symbian Belle running Nokia devices

After a long gap of over two years, Microsoft Apps – the Office suite is now made available on the Nokia Symbian Belle platform based devices. Arriving as a big 50MB update the Microsoft Apps 2.0 consisting of the Word, Excel and PowerPoint is now live for the Symbian platform. This Office productivity suite will be immediately downloadable and used on eight Symbian Belle update running devices as of now.

Microsoft had announced to bring its Office apps suite for the Symbian platform back in 2009 and after a long gap those apps finally show up. The new Microsoft apps include Word, Excel and PowerPoint for Symbian Belle platform. The Microsoft Business apps already include OneNote, Lync, Microsoft Document Connection and PowerPoint Broadcaster.

Out of the three new Microsoft apps, only PowerPoint won’t let you create a new document – obviously, too much work to add such functionality. As per AllAboutSymbian, installing the new Microsoft Office apps on typical Symbian Belle device takes about 15 minutes!

The Office apps for Belle allow opening the documents back from Office 2003 and higher. However the document editing support is only available for documents created in Office 2007 and Office 2010.

After installing the Microsoft Office apps, a typical Symbian Belle mobile will have two different Office productivity app suites- QuickOffice and Microsoft Office.

New Microsoft Office apps are currently available for the following Symbian Belle devices – Nokia 700, Nokia 701, Nokia 603, Nokia E7, Nokia X7, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and Nokia Oro. Nokia has promised to bring the support for Microsoft Office apps on Nokia N8, Nokia 500 and Nokia E6 very soon.

Download the base installer of the Microsoft Apps from (Ovi Store) which will prompt you to download a bigger 50MB update later.
