Jio effect? BSNL now offering unlimited voice calls on broadband plans

BSNL's new offerings are clearly targetted to counter Jio's upcoming broadband plans.As we have reported earlier, Jio is planning to launch its broadband services later this year. Jio may offer a bundled offering that will include free calls, broadband, media like JioTV - all for under Rs 1,000.

State run telecom operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited or BSNL is now reportedly offering unlimited calls on its connections.

Reportedly, some of its plans offer only BSNL to BSNL unlimited calls while others allow unlimited calls to any network. The new offer is said to have been rolled out on this June 1.

As per a report of TelecomTalk, users having BSNL’s broadband plans priced between Rs. 249 and Rs. 645, will be able to make unlimited calls. These plans also offer unlimited night calls also. All other plans priced above it allow unlimited calls to any network, added the report.

As we have reported earlier, Jio is planning to launch its broadband services later this year.

Jio may offer a bundled offering that will include free calls, broadband, media like JioTV – all for under Rs 1,000.

Such an offering will not only hit the traditional broadband playes but DTH operators may also get hit. Also, with a lucrative bundled offer, Jio may lure some Airtel broadband users too.

Currently, Jio is testing its broadband services in some parts of the country, offering speeds as much as 100 Mpps against a security deposit of Rs 4,500.

Meanwhile, Airtel is currently expanding its broadband coverage. Currently, in Delhi, the company is offering the bonus data on two plans of Rs 1,099 and Rs 1,299. Under Rs 1,099 plan, users will get 250GB of broadband data per month along with 1000GB of bonus data, which makes a grand total of 1,250GB. Similarly, under Rs 1,299 plan users will get 350GB of data along with 1000GB of free data per month.
