Recently, one of our readers recharged his Reliance Jio prepaid number. Though he initially was reluctant to do so but with Jio’s continuous stream of messages announcing triple cash back offer, he couldn’t resist.
“After all I am a human,” he says.
He particularly could not resist the fact that he could get up to Rs 300 cashback on Rs 399 and above recharge.
This means all he will end up paying is just Rs 99. Actually, to get the Rs 300 cashback, one has to recharge Jio number through Mobikwik. And also it needs to be a new account.
However, there was a shock in store for him.
Mobikwik does give him Rs 300 cashback but it was in Supercash!
Sounds much interesting? But it isn’t.
The Supercash is not all the super in real life.
“SuperCash is a way of ensuring that you get a discount on each transaction. SuperCash works on the same lines as cashback, the only difference being it automatically gives you 10% discount on every transaction,” says Mobikwik. (In its apps, Mobikwik says you can use up to 20 percent of Supercash during transactions).
But before you go rejoice too much, here is a fact for you: on recharges and bill payments you will get only five percent discount. So if you have 300 Supercash, you will only get Rs 15 on your recharges.
Whats more, you have to make a recharge of at least Rs 100 or more.
Even if you think that you will get 10 percent discount while transactions, just think how many transactions you have to do to use all your Supercash.
For instance, in the first transaction of Rs 100, you can use only Rs 30 of Supercash, that means you have Rs 270 in your Supercash balance. The Rs 27 will be used for another Rs 100 transaction and so on.
Normally, it is up to users to use as many cashback points as he desires but the Mobikwik Supercash is just a debt trap to let users transact more and more.
Also did we forgot to mention that the Mobikwik’s Supercash has just three months’ validity!
So in our view, if you want to have the triple cashback benefits of Jio, just recharge using Jio’s own channel under which you will get eight vouchers of Rs 50 each which you can use later to recharge the number.
We haven’t used payment methods of Amazon Pay or Paytm which are offering Rs 50 and Rs 15 cashbacks respectively. PhonePe offers Rs 50 for new users and Rs 10 cashback for existing users. Hopefully, they have no restriction on cashback usage.
