Instagram has been an extremely popular for both and iOS, ever since it was introduced back in 2010 and was later acquired by Facebook in 2012. In the latest blog post, Instagram now claims that it has over 700 million monthly active users. Earlier this month, Instagram claimed that it has reached 200 million daily active users.

The blog post read – “We’ve made it even easier for people across the globe to join the Instagram community, share their experiences and strengthen connections to their friends and passions. With new features like stories, live video and disappearing messages in Direct, people now have more ways than ever to express themselves and feel closer to what matters to them.”

Not only this, the last 100 million users were achieved in only 4 months while the 100 million before that was achieved in 6 months. After its official launch in October 2010, Instagram took almost 28 months to reach its first 100 million users while the next 100 million came in another 13 months. The next 300 million came in next 27 months with each 100 million taking 9 months.

With this speed of growth, Instagram will soon join the likes of Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp with over 1 billion users. A TechCrunch report quoted an Instagram spokesperson acknowledging the impact of Instagram Stories to achieve this growth rate and also retain a lot of other users.

The report from TechCrunch also stated that ever since Instagram introduced its ‘Stories’ feature, Snapchat has gone down almost 82 percent in numbers. Meanwhile, the famous photo-sharing app from Facebook recently introduced a new offline mode wherein users would be able to put through any action such as like, comment on the post even without a connection. The action will take place as soon as the user connects to the internet next time. Further, Instagram has also played with a cache to make it possible for users to see most viewed profiles and last opened ‘Explore’ tab.
