Hands on: Zync Z1000 tablet

The tablet seems quite good on paper. The most important factor is its SIM connectivity that allows both 3G as well as calling facility.

Zync Global, an Indian tablet brand, has recently launched a new 9.7-inch tablet, called Z1000, for Rs 10,990 in India. The tablet has a very good specification sheet that impressed us. Here is a first-hand account of the device.

Display and Build

The Zync Z1000 comes with a big 9.7 inch display with 1024 x 786 pixels resolution. The IPS panel also supports 10 point touch.

The tablet comes in pure black colour and is quite shiny which looks very upmarket. However, both screen and the pack panel which has a piano finish attracts a lot of fingerprints; so you wipe it clean every now and then. The glossy finish also means that you have to struggle a lot to have a good grip.

The tablet also feels quite heavy but then its a 10 inch tablet.

In the tablet, Zync has kept all the ports in the right hand side (when you hold it in portrait mode) that includes the 3.5 mm jack, two micro USB ports, TF card slot, SIM slot, HDMI port and the power button. On the top, you will find the volume rocker along with the return key.

The placement of power button in the left hand side makes it a bit tricky to hold the device in the horizontal mode as it most likely to get pressed, locking the device every now and then.

The display, though IPS, seems a bit less-bright. It is also quite difficult to see contents on the display from wider angles.
Specification and performance

The Zync Z1000 is outright noticeable thanks to its rich specification. First of all, it comes with ICS out of the box and the company is also promising to release the latest Android Jelly Bean update for it in the near future.

Moreover, it has a 1.5 Ghz which seems fast enough. To aide the processor, Zync has also provided 1 of RAM but since we have not tested thoroughly, we reserve our judgement on the performance of the tablet till out full review.

The tablet is quite rich in terms of connectivity options as it not only has SIM connectivity but also it has WiFI, mini HDMI port and two micro USB ports. The tablet has also GPS support.

The most important feature of this tablet is its SIM calling facility which is quite rare in 10 inch tablets. SIM facility also allows it to access connectivity. Calling will not be the usual process as in mobile phone as the tablet is quite big and heavy but you can do so using a headset.

Another notable factor in the Zync Z1000 is its dual camera – a 0.3 front camera, and a 2 megapixel rear camera. Both the camera if not noteworthy seems to serve the purpose.

The Zync Z1000 has also plenty of storage – 8 GB internal storage which is expandable upto 32 GB. There is a 7000 battery at core in this tablet on which we will give our views in the final review.

The tablet seems quite good on paper. Additionally, the company is also offering freebies worth Rs 1,350 which include a lycra pouch, screen protector, pair of earphones and 1 month subscription for BigFlix. However since, we have used the tablet for only a sort while till now, so we would not pass a judgement.
