Google has finally introduced the indoor maps feature in Google Maps for India. Google Indoor Maps basically offers maps of indoor spaces like the Airport, Shopping Malls and Train stations. Google is currently making the indoor maps available for select locations in 22 Indian cities that include Delhi – NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Coimbatore and Ahmedabad.
For India, Google Indoor Maps currently offers floor wise maps for the Shopping Malls, Convention Center and large Retail outlet. For obvious security reasons, the Indoor Maps of the Indian Airports have not been made available. Last year, Nokia’s HERE map service also brought along indoor maps for 45 countries including India. Though late, Google has managed to provide detailed maps for the shopping centers and large retail units in Bangalore.
Indoor maps can be accessed on the Android or iOS based devices with active data connection. When zoomed in on a listed indoor maps capable place, the user interface offers a button with number of floors to check out the floor plan. For instance, you can check out the floor plan of the Inorbit Mall in Goregaon, Malad, Mumbai.
