Facebook makes it easier to find to blood donors in India

Starting October, 1, National Blood Donor Day, Facebook will be launching a tool, which will allow users to sign up to become a blood donor.

To meet the demand of safe bloodin India, there are not enough people to donate. However, Facebook has come up with an initiative to increase blood donation. Starting October, 1, National Blood Donor Day, Facebook will be launching a tool, which will allow users to sign up to become a blood donor.

By becoming one,users will be connected to an individual person, hospital and blood bank who are in need. The social networking giant will show a message in News Feed- “People Near You Need Blood Donors Every Day”. With a click on the message, users can register by mentioning their blood group and whether they have donated blood before or not. The information will be set to ‘Only Me’ by default which can be further change in settings. The company said that the feature will be first available on mobile web and as they are the most used platforms in the country.

For individual or organisations are in need of blood, they will be able to create a special help post with all the information. This feature will automatically notify nearby blood donors so that donors can easily offer help. One can choose to respond directly, using WhatsApp, Messenger, or a phone call.

Ritesh Mehta, Head of Programs for Facebook South Asia, said: “Thousands of people seek blood donors on Facebook each week and this tool is designed to make it more efficient by bringing blood donors and people in need together.”
