Facebook, the most popular social networking website, is now reportedly planning to acquire Whatsapp, the multiplatform mobile messaging service. Notably, Facebook has recently acquired the Instagram mobile imaging platform.
According to Tech Crunch, which quoted its sources, Facebook is presently in talks with Whatsapp and they might be in the process of closing the deal with the company as well.
Though reasons are not stated officially, but certainly Facebook would be eying to revamp its own messaging platform or maybe want to reach the Whatsapp community to expand itself. And given WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging outside the world of BlackBerry Messenger it is a good fit for Facebook.
Many have also opined that Facebook might turn Whatsapp in to a paid application but that would certainly make many to move away from the messenger platform. Another possibility is that since Facebook relies on the advertisement revenue, so it might also make Whatsapp’s service ad supported and make it absolutely free.
All we will come to know in the days to come when some official word about the acquisition is made public by the company.
