Facebook explains its latest News Feed algorithm through “Why Am I Seeing This Post” feature

The new feature can be accessed as a new option from the drop-down menu when clicking on the top right section of a post. Facebook explains that a certain post might be visible to you because of the number of time you interacted with the user who posted it in the past, the different types of post you browse through and the popularity of the post.

A month after it added event invites to its Stories section, Facebook has announced a new feature to its social media on Sunday. The feature labelled “Why Am I Seeing This Post” will be available on the News Feed, allowing users to know why a particular post is being shown to them in detail.

The “Why Am I Seeing This Post” feature bears a similar resemblance to the “Why Am I Seeing This Ad” feature which was rolled out to the platform back in 2014. The move comes as Facebook’s attempt at being transparent after a year of being surrounded by controversies that haunted the social media company.

Facebook is also giving users the control to check which of the posts they want to see in the future and judge whether you’d like to see the posts that you’re seeing now. The latest News Feed settings thus include ‘Unfollow’ and ‘See First’ options.

The social media platform is also revamping its “Why Am I Seeing This Ad” feature with other details including information on whether advertiser had uploaded a mailing list in the past with your email ID on it.
